  1. BUT please please please don't get caught out after the 12 month warranty with the gearbox going " pop " coz you haven't dealt with the radiator issue Malc
  2. doubtless had you bought a huge Mercedes or BMW or Audi they would have been pleased ? ? Rest assured your Ls460 is far far better than those ..... just make sure you do preventative stuff like the new radiator to stop gearbox failure etc ......... no one tells you that with Mercs no doubt even though it's maybe a similar fault I read ( but can't remember where ) Your Ls460 is their envy methinks Malc
  3. that's good then ... at least now you've got some 'heads up ' on likely ongoing costs for one with stuff needing to be done Malc
  4. your decision of course BUT upper wishbones sure ain't cheap and cambelt, pulleys and waterpump change are about an 8 hour job .. 10 yrs / 100k miles if the service history shows lots of this done then maybe the asking price is ok BUT if not done then you will know what you might be in store to expect I've just spent the best part of £2k on mine this last year with my indy doing the stuff and getting proper parts from Amayama in Japan ( 50% of the UK Lexus /. Toyota cost ) BUT my knowing this stuff won't need doing ever again ( maybe ) The Mk3 Ls400 does fail the MOT on the wishbones at about 160k miles onwards, depending on the driving and driver over it's life Your decision whatever BUT as I said, a fresh sensible MOT will show you if the upper wishbones are likely to be a cause for immediate concern and a potential bank balance drain Good luck whatever Malc
  5. their one actually had the words Land Cruiser at the rear door Malc
  6. did anybody else watch the Bolivia .............. World's Most dangerous roads ............last night on ' Dave ' at 7pm never seen a Lexus Land Cruiser before Malc
  7. I would simply ask for a new MOT to be carried out while you're there watching it being done maybe The corrosion just might be light surface stuff The driver's heated seats only ever worked when new ! Then it's maybe worth the money + the cost of the new MOT UCAs can cost a lot of money when they need changing though Engine and gearbox can last a million miles Malc
  8. that's the problem with more modern cars, there's not much longevity ................. I jest,............ mine's on 218k miles and I think it's the original cap too Malc
  9. I don't have one at all BUT I do remember reading quite some extensive stuff on these Forums about the issues with Toyota / Lexus diesel cars good hunting ....... Malc
  10. Simon, when mine went pop I just visited the local Factor and they produced the right match for the job from their store. At least by doing it in person you'll no doubt get the right part ...... and as I said, it's quite likely that other marques use exactly the same item Malc
  11. so are u saying that Mercedes has a service schedule ad infinitum ? does Lexus for our aged Ls400s have this too please ? Malc
  12. and are there manufacturers advices for cars of this age ? Malc
  13. I have this cover ' free ' from my Nationwide FlexPlus account BUT ................. and mine's 23 years old now Malc
  14. that's often the way of things with insurers ...... you could try insuring it for an agreed value maybe Malc
  15. if anyone is in Canterbury having this done I really cannot fault Treadmark / Protyres for ' getting it right ' every time Malc
  16. but I think light bulbs really do cost more than 99p these days Malc
  17. and supplies from Amayama in Japan too ... often original Toyota parts where I buy mine from ...... UK main dealer / Toyota sourced prices are often about double and that's even after all shipping and UK taxes you may have reached the stage at 155k miles that if suspension parts etc haven't been renewed then that time might be looming BUT the new one's will last you another lifetime you can be quite certain As I've often said, the Ls400 is a wolf in sheep's clothing with a roar as loud as hearing sheep munching grass from 200 meters away Just fabulous cars and tiny money compared to a new V8 or American muscle car I would think Malc
  18. so doing over 10k miles a year means you would have to accelerate the Hybrid check to always keep it under warranty .... just to be sure Malc
  19. 18 years is sure a long time on an original belt ! are you certain it's original ? my second Ls400, my 1994 Mk2 which I bought in December 2007 at 8542 miles had the original cambelt changed at 3400 miles at 10 years old now that must have been like brand new surely Malc
  20. but why should that be different anywhere in the world ..... it's individual's driving style surely ? NOT just, it's the USA and the climates different, the roads are better ( or worse ) I think it's just taking the p-ss by the marketing guys wherever My experience above, many styles of driving over 10 years and 100k miles including mine with this last change last May since I bought the car in June 2011 at 123k miles ..... now on 217k miles Malc
  21. I just use replacement rubbers and up until now they have been Toyota/Lexus rubbers and awfully expensive. BUT they have lasted 3 years / 40k miles UNTIL NOW ........ I replaced the last set in May and quite frankly they aren't up to the mark ......... I think they are now probably very old stock and deteriorated on the shelf Having to replace them at the next service / MOT in May and I will use my indy's simple cheap replacement rubbers and change them every year or so .... and at a fraction of the @£25 price from the Main Dealer Malc
  22. with my Ls400 I followed the USA syndrome of 100k miles / 10 years for cambelt waterpump stuff I changed mine last May at 100500 miles and 11 years ...... everything looked quite good, no fraying belt etc, pulleys a bit tired though I think I did read somewhere that the zap point of " snap " on the cambelt is @ 150k miles It's exactly the same set-up in the UK as the USA so don't understand why UK should be different Malc
