  1. Phil, I think you are a bit of a star tbh ....... my same car is thus far totally trouble free in the ECU department .... and I hope it stays that way forever 😉 But if it starts to play up I know that I can rely on your fantastic research to guide me out of trouble. A big big Thank You ........ from me anyway Malc
  2. On my Ls400 I used to get an irritating wind noise at certain speeds and locations ( with windows closed though ) ........ put it down to the windscreen badly fitting coz when I had a new screen ( it cracked and had to be replaced ) that noise vanished ........ just a thought Malc
  3. Leisurely touring Scotland in my Ls400 is quite blissful. The NC500 sadly ( for me as a tourist ) brings too many overseas drivers to be too competitive searching for B&Bs and the like I want it for my own ..... to simply waft around enjoying the magnificent scenery, noting many overseas travellers just seem to want to get the NC500 over and done with in a couple of hectic days Malc
  4. info from this Forum suggests that all Ls ( ex most Ls400 ) have air and they may start to give problems from 100k miles. Each corner might cost with new parts £1k a time, but 2nd hand may be available ...... I've not read about re-conditioning them at all Thankfully I don't have to worry about that, neither do I on my non-air ( 2006 ) Honda Legend S-AWD Malc
  5. mine are too and now at 220k miles ........... no problem seems to be there for me ( yet ) Malc
  6. you could try the amazingly fantastic Honda Legend for that too with AWD ...... 50% of the price of the Ls at least and a pretty fantastic car to boot ( that's not too capacious though ) Malc
  7. but we do have them here too, but just UK police I was often stopped in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy in times past on my travels ........ mainly coz they had never seen such a rare car like my Ls400 ........... even rarer than on UK roads Malc

    Mk4 ls400

and how much £££ are you looking for ?? Malc

    Mk4 ls400

W11NDY can't believe the number of Fails on your recent MOTs you must have been horrified at the time but she does look an absolute ' beauty ' and you must be so proud of her ..... how could you bear to part company ever ! Malc
  10. what, if you don't need this pipe, can it just be blocked off without repurcussions ? Malc
  11. Happy relief, annual service and MOT ........... No Advisories, changed one indicator bulb ( not original ) and new front pads .............. the one's he used last time, November just gone, had only covered about 5k miles but were squeaking every day at some point and had quite worn .... more expensive one's now and on the first day ..... not a squeak ( yet ) Happy bunny here Malc
  12. I did, invested about £2k in my beast this last year or so with all UCAs replaced and cambelt, waterpump etc and 4 new tyres ........ and a few other bits and bobs too Good2go for another 100k miles at least I would say Malc
  13. my EGR pipe was replaced at a Lexus main dealer many years ago by the previous owner ....... I know not why ! the Japanese originating cars I understand don't actually have the EGR pipe Steve2006 on here might understand more on this subject Malc
  14. I should have mentioned ..... avoid Blueprint replacements ... I had one front and it only lasted 43k miles before i replaced both fronts ( and rears ) with Amayama which are Toyota manufactured OEM .... the Blueprint was easily available and 50% cost of Lexus OEM UK BUT failed as I said ... and similar price to Amayama The Amayama Toyota parts are original you need to make sure they are correct sided when you get them, they actually write on them in marker pen 'right ' and ' left ' Malc hope this helps too
  15. the Drugs Squad now know where Ls400 owners stash their gear Malc
  16. UCAs ............. upper control arms are a bugger, last between 160k and 220 k miles depending on the driver and are horribly expensive BUT from Amayama are manageable, probably about £250 each incl shipping, Customs Duty and VAT etc ( 50% of Lexus UK price ) only replace them when they are MOT failures or Advisories that actually NEED doing ! Malc hope some of this allays your worst fears 😉
  17. they will show signs of surface rust .. only to worry aboout them when they actually " snap " and they might not for years yet, if ever. Mine's only had one replaced in 220k miles and 24 years ... and that was 8 years and 100k miles back Malc
  18. not really, mine was done at 11 years and 100500 miles ..... waterpump too ..... belt looked as if it had many years and miles left in it tbh yours could be ok for a year or two yet ...... the cambelt might actually destruct at @150k miles this also then needs coolant and a new serpentine belt at the same time ..... to last another 100k miles Malc
  19. tiny job, a £3 length of the appropriate copper tubing does the trick .... but do it now before it gets worse ....... on mine the gubbins weirdo pipework above that needed doing and flexi hoses did the trick ! Malc
  20. a needle for sure, similar to a pin of course, the sharp pointy bit does the business whatever Malc
  21. poked thru the windscreen washer jets to make them flow better and checked all the ( mostly 24 year old original ) light bulbs work ok ......... MOT end of next week Malc
