  1. drive every time. a relaxing and purposeful adventure, taking your time and experiencing weird and wonderful hotels and B&Bs AND amazing scenery usually Cost of taxi to airport or parking fees, time to get there and several hours maybe for check in and maybe delayed flights too ......... and back ! No contest really coz there's lots of cross channel options. My holiday starts as soon as I'm on the ferry at Dover, imagining it's a mini cruise, the start of the holiday And if you try flying Ryanair or EasyJet you might just get huge problems at some time ( or lucky if not ) ............ my travel agency business will NEVER book pax on either of these two incredible ( for all the wrong reasons ) airlines Just take your amazing car and enjoy the drive around and across mainland Europe and further afield maybe ....... it's a wonderful experience ENJOY your car at all times Malc
  2. never had mine taken to pieces BUT maybe if you hard blow it all back into the vent would it ( the muck ) pop out the other side maybe ? Malc
  3. Brilliant choice I had Falkens for many many years and only stopped when my size 265/60/16 simply became unavailable in the UK ( so it seemed ) I'm on All Seasons Maxxis now and they seem good too Malc
  4. remember our Ls400s are quite a rarity and often garages etc like to work on them for the novelty aspect .... not being run-o-t' mill stuff Malc
  5. why not go for a tyre that anyone / everyone's heard of ?? they are all ' new ' to me for sure Those four bits of rubber connecting you to the ground will be your lifesaver at some point Malc
  6. me too last week ... decided to visit an area we hadn't ever explored before, what a wonderful area to visit ( 6 days ) ................ and would thoroughly recommend Branston Hall Hotel for a stay and a base for touring around I have no influence or interest in this hotel other than it really is much better than the 3 Star it says it is Malc
  7. I don't know your car but I have been buying significant genuine Toyota stuff for mine from Amayama which after shipping, Customs Duty, VAT and handling charges still works out at 50% of UK Lexus prices Malc
  8. Ben hi, my guy is nr the old Manston airport ........ a very long way for you ( and an hour for me too and I live in Kent ! ) ................. he's looked after my cars now ( incl the Ls400s over the years ) since 2007 he's certainly no exhaust specialist ...... just a superb mechanic with good welding skills ............. he ' hoped ' he could fix the Cat when he started to deal with it, but it was by no means certain at all ..... lucky me he could this time around He doesn't hold any exhaust parts ( nor any other parts ) at all, just orders stuff in when needed I think as you live so far away you might be better off with a more local guy to you just in case the car has to be left while parts are sourced if a simple weld-fix can't be achieved Not to be a " downer " at all, just practicalities But of course happy to help if I can and Good Luck Malc
  9. OK so she sailed through the recent MOT ... a tiny hole in the exhaust stuff at the mild steel end .... took her into my indy to deal with this tiny hole as arranged Tiny hole yes and duly welded up .... then the frontpipe is getting tin mice effect at the bottom end, so that's a weld-up all round ...... and the nearside Catalytic Converter he can see the honeycomb through a bit larger hole in that toooooo .......... a little more challenging, so he welds a plate on to that and then ........ where the CC has a crease at the end that too is just about rusted through, only tiny BUT needs a little welding ..... probably condensation laying there over the years, maybe Anyway, all welded and fixed, she hasn't got the pre-weld slight growl of the normal V8 anymore, just the genteel Ls400 purr 😉 Wopping great bill for the 1.5 hrs of buggering about with the weld torch ..... £ 40 ...... blissful result ... didn't want to look at the cost of a replacement CC for sure ( nearside stuff under there does tend to get more weathered it seems, the other side seems all good to go ) Malc
  10. never heard this expression before ... what is it please Thanks Malc
  11. hi and welcome 103k is a tiny tiny mileage tbh ........... most stuff starts wearing out from about 150/170k miles but the engine and gearbox will go on forever with good servicing and cambelt waterpump changed at every 100k miles / 10 years or so your car might last you forever if you wanted that 😉 see there's a 1998 ? Ls400 on autotrader with 730k miles or so and they have one with 2.3 million miles too best wishes Malc
  12. is there any criminality in not parking their car sensibly I wonder ! is it a police matter the 2nd time around ? Malc
  13. could be all sorts of reasons and not just the tyre ... maybe the way the seating has slightly corroded on the wheel rim .... when you change the tyres get them to especially clean the rim thoroughly, will save going back when your brand new tyre starts going down too Malc
  14. hahahahaha, we're just a bit old in the tooth and expect " personality " in cars, youth of today ( anyone younger than me I guess ) just want a ' today ' car that can be thrown away in a thrice ........... £34k, ha, just a mere bauble of cash for some .................. represents about 34 weeks in a care home maybe Malc
  15. I think you might find this is not too uncommon, and has been the case for many many years / decades on the vast majority of new cars and marques the poor dealers and their staff have to live you know Malc
  16. Your exhaust is very high quality stainless steel and will last the life of your car There is a gremiln part that's mild steel though and can usually be welded " right " by a competent guy Malc
  17. I thought we are all Members on here tbh If it's wrong then a Moderator will soon instruct you, so i wouldn't worry about it yet Malc
  18. what an incredible car, and she still looks a brilliant example from the piccys usual maintenance stuff I guess, UCAs, belts etc and monthly oil changes maybe ............ must be a taxi surely with that annual mileage between MOTS Wot a stellar example and a credit to it's family Malc
  19. I guess the BMW bills will probably exceed the car value each year of ownership maybe ! Malc
  20. reg KV2596 ............very cool in the winter here with the fabric top letting in as much wind and rain as it keeps out .. there's probably about a dozen survivors worldwide, well, mostly old British Colonial stuff, Australia, New Zealand and maybe Canada but maybe not. Just a handful really Malc
  21. what a beautiful line-up you have, well done You're a man with much appreciation of one of the best cars ever to have left the production line Mines on 222k miles just about and I'm loving every minute of the 19 years I've been driving a Ls400, a Mk1, then a Mk2 and 8 years ago my Mk3 on about 123k miles then Can't imagine what other car I'd be wanting to drive permanently. I did have a car sales pitch a few years ago and drove all sorts and marques and from that time i also have a 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer .......... 4 seater car which is presently undergoing a little heart surgery Malc
  22. and I was reading somewhere a year or two back on this very subject that the then Rules for car parking space sizes have never been changed to date and that's why lots are so stupidly small and just to my mind at least. stops people going there ( me anyway ) , foot fall, spending power and all that stuff as detrimental to the retailers that continue to keep parking space sizes in the dark ages.
