  1. " Breakdown and Recovery " concept ............... then the failure of a wheel to grip, being customer induced ( it dropped into a ditch ) should be covered / recovered ? Malc
  2. I had a situation a couple of years ago when my car slid into a hidden by undergrowth small ditch, one front wheel only, on a country road. I couldn't move the car at all The Nationwide FlexPlus breakdown cover people refused to help, to send out assistance, telling me, even after protestations, to contact my car insurers who would have to assist I didn't call my other breakdown people, the RAC with whom I now have free lifetime Breakdown recovery assistance whatever ( been a member since about 1972 I think ) BUT I had to do something quickly, it was dangerous so I called the police as I was a hazard, they came, put up road signs, got a local farmer passing by to go get a two rope and within 30 mins I was out and on my way ................ Excellent positive result My first and last time using the Nationwide FlexPlus assistance for sure Once before I had to use the RAC who were impeccably helpful, car slipped on bus shedding diesel fuel, off the main highway and over the grass and stuck, on the main exit from the A2 going to Bexleyheath. The RAC guy just dealt with it, the police had to come to close the sliproad ( apologies to all those affected at the time ) and the police advised it was a common issue with the bus company over- filling their tanks and they would have yet another word with them about the hazard caused. RAC BRILLIANT Nationwide FlexPlus non - assistance not so Malc
  3. so can you please warn us against which Breakdown Coy NOT to use for the future ?? Thanks Malc
  4. David, hi Welcome to the Club, an excellent choice of car the first thing would be to make sure the radiator issues have been sorted, plenty of good advice here about it basically, the pipework rusts through mixing water with the gearbox oil ( cooler pipes ) and zap goes your gearbox .............. usually irretrievably if that's not yet occurred and the potential problem's been sorted, or can be right now, then there's not a lot to worry about apart from maybe the air suspension going awry at sometime cambelt and waterpump change at @ 100k miles too, a very big job, maybe 8 hrs but there's a good few people on here with the Ls430 that will be giving you some excellent advice Best wishes Malc
  5. I don't know but are you sure there is an actual physical cable etc and it is not just an electronic gizmo that does the releasing ? Malc
  6. until next autumn and more acorns ! Malc
  7. Nigel, how did you get on ? Malc
  8. don't know if it applies to car paints BUT I remember taking a sample of house paint ( from a piece of door ) for an exact match ( conservation area needs ) and Johnson's were able to analyse and mix as appropriate EXACTLY is there a paint shop for cars does this I wonder ? Malc
  9. how terrible for you the Ls400 isn't known for problems such as these ............ in fact never heard of it before the alternator does sometimes go pop when the power steering fluid may leak from it's reservoir onto it but this is really only known on the earlier cars, pre 1995 maybe check that out first the battery, well, if it was a brand new battery then it shouldn't have " gone " for sure sorry I can't be of more help Malc
  10. my indy tells me to use semi synthetic with the age and mileage of mine .............. older cars, higher mileage in general Malc
  11. seems a lot of dosh for a 14 year old car the Ls460 came in on the 56 plate at least Malc
  12. about a month ago, maybe ......... 30 days could be a lifetime away tbh ............. I was last there on 21st August taking her to the bodyshop ( at the rear of Hornby ) guy for an estimate for my whack by that assailant Porsche Boxter there are so few Lss' about for sure Malc

  14. well thank you, that's a surprise then if ever I venture into those London seedy erogenous zones I'll have to pay the charges of the whore then not sure I'll be going that way with my shy and retiring Ls Malc
  15. when i put my regn into the system it told me that I wasn't simply allowed in at all ever N7GNT I don't think I got that wrong I'm toooooo polluting I guess Malc
  16. remember though that the Mk3 at least CANNOT ever be driven in the super emissions free zone in London Malc
  17. looks a good Ls400 with low low mileage, you should be seriously thinking of buying it it looks remarkably good value to me mine at 224k miles has just been insce valued for write-off ( but it won't go that route ) after a door smack at £1400, the same price I paid for her 100k miles and 8 years ago that specific Mk3 in dark blue looks pretty damned good tbh Malc
  18. my next door neighbour has a 04 plate Bentley ( DJI 2020 ....... does about 2k miles a year, ) and a Audi Q6 ? and a classic Jensen Interceptor and I just know he cannot find a buyer for it He's so disinterested in the thing that he missed it's MOT this year by many many months even tho' it often sits out on the road ! My indy mechanic tells me if I had one he would be trailering it down to him for tlc and repairs more than I would be using it ..... he thinks the Lsa400 is a brilliant car for me and 15k miles a year Malc
  19. can you tell us, how much did you actually spend on bits and pieces for this job ? Malc
  20. you did well, saved yourself loads £££££ then Malc
  21. welcome, there's a huge amount of useful info on this site about the 98 Ls400 it will be the best car you've ever owned for sure Malc
  22. hi, sorry no idea of your part number Shipping is brilliant, they ship within a few days, keep it tracked and follow through, paying the Customs Duty and VAT and the local ( here ) fees I've bought UCAs from them, excellent service and for me the total prices paid were about 50% of the Lexus / Toyota UK supplied parts Malc
  23. maybe check out Amayama for OEM pricing Malc
  24. yes, my 1994 car was a Mk2 and 16" but my 1992 car was a Mk1 at 15" ..... I don't know when, if in 1993, it might have changed over Malc
