  1. well done, sure hope she works out good for you might have another 20 years in her if you had the notion to keep her and spend a little bit of dosh ! Malc
  2. I know that my indy mechanic who organises my MOTs with his friendly MOT station is suddenly having a very very challenging time even though at sometime, heaven knows when, he might get the £10k Grant as a Business Rates payer youngish ( by comparison to me ) young family and rented house I sent him through the weekly email I receive from the DVLA the other day advising him of the new 6 month rule ..................... he said thanks BUT I know going through in his mind was the likely immediate turndown in business, especially as most MOTs accompany the annual service ....... ( I guess ) just like mine ! I've been a loyal customer of his for over 12 years now and always with a Ls400 and one or two other cars, like now, being a multi car family, well me and my partner I've even told him to let me know if there's anything I can do to help £££ if the going gets really tough ...... I know he'll almost 100% say NO BUT I need him as much as he needs his customers ....... I have every faith in his skills and abilities and honesty .......... I don't really want to just rely on " any of the other garages along the road " to make sure my mind is at ease when having my cars looked after Malc
  3. all this is telling me that insurers should be deciding the premium for comprehensive glass insurance ( in the annual premium say ) according to the likely cost of repair / replacement for that specific car ...... and leave us poor old buggers with simple and old technology rated windscreens and glass, to suffer much less and more appropriate insce premiums Malc
  4. driving to and fro the supermarket today it seemed to me as if all drivers were keeping a very safe distance from each other whilst driving even maybe there will be much less tragic traffic incidents these next months BUT I did have to shout at someone ( from my parked car ) in the Sainsburys Q who was edging closer to my partner in front of her in the Q woke the Sainsbury's Q monitoring staff up for sure Malc
  5. Paul, I'm incredibly impressed with the near perfect state of the insides of your cills ......... just goes to show what amazing build quality came from Toyota / Lexus 24 years ago Thanks for doing this, it gives me so much confidence that I shan't be worrying about mine ever hope the plastic clips work ok ..... Malc
  6. nah, proposal to confiscate all foreign owned empty property to house the French homeless
  7. just be ultra careful not to do over 155mph Malc
  8. YES but the vehicle MUST be fully roadworthy otherwise the police will fine you as per not having a roadworthy vehicle maybe take it off the road instantly and scrap it ............... slap you in irons and throw away the key .... us Lexus owners are all prone to that some of us running such ancient relics ( not necessarily the other 'alf ) Malc
  9. BUT the vehicle has to be totally roadworthy and you will get the usual reprimand by the police if it's not I've just got my usual weekly email from the DVLA advising Malc
  10. YES my gfs nephew has 4 young kids in Charlton London. The 10 y/o has it quite bad initially but recovering it seems ..... everyone else seems ok but doing what's necessary, which is difficult with 3 other young kids My senior office guy, his uncle living in Virginia USA, a very very healthy 70 y/o attended a local 100 delegate conference with 6 Chinese there. He died of this on 26th January, 10 days after the conference Malc
  11. the price of a lettuce right now ....... about 65p in a supermarket near you my buddy in Rainbow Beach ( just along the coast from Brisbane ) Qld Oz uses his local supermarket, about the size of an old fashioned small Co-Op when I was there last a few years back he's complaining that the growers are pushing the prices up from the normal at this challenging time bear in mind the Aus$ / Stlg£ rate is about 2 / 1 usual price of a lettuce Aus$ 4.50,............. yesterday $5.95 GULP 😲 Malc
  12. our Morrisons is asking people to just buy it when they touch it and NOT to put it back Malc
  13. what make came originally with the car from new ... if available then that might be the best to have Malc
  14. Jon, I like the link ..... isn't hindsight a wonderful thing ! In olden times, Victorian and Edwardian eras in the UK, probably India and South Africa too, they understood this and most, if not all public buildings and posh houses had brass / copper door handles which is said to curtail these bugs Malc
  15. but take care coz that will not be a brand new box for sure at that silly low price anything else you must have the confidence that what you have newly installed is still " unblemished " Malc
  16. missed out really, wisdom has it I believe that apple tree pruning takes place in January to stop the poor buggers bleeding ( to death ) if pruned later in the year roses are good to prune now but take care re the frost though Malc
  17. I'd imagine ( and maybe that's all it is too ) that the insurers would quote you a very sensible price if the car doesn't travel on the road during some sort of specialist and inexpensive " lay-up " type of insurance I doubt you'd be the only car owner looking to SORN and wanting some sort of cover, just in case Malc
  18. we're expecting to see piccys of it totally manicured to perfection at the end of all this Malc
  19. or perhaps the air filters are more progressive and efficient in catching the crap ........... never seen leaves in mine though but I'm happy to say the bug population around Kent is fiercesomely strong ........... does that mean good quality environment .............. providing they are " good " bugs of course Malc
  20. my partners in the NHS and she's just now taking advantage of the local Morrisons offer of NHS only twixt 7 and 8am to get a few bits and pieces on her way to work ................ good 'ol Morrisonns eh ! Malc
  21. never for me in 20 years and about 250k miles driving my Lss' ........ Mk1 and Mk2 and now my Mk3 for 100+k miles .......... nearly 9 years For me I guess it's depended on the quality of the servicing by my indy ..... he's replaced discs from time to time but that's been a very rare occurrence Malc
  22. air filters used to last me 2 services, about 25k miles BUT for the past few years it has become very gunged-up at each and every annual service the air we breathe has just got so much poorer Malc
  23. there's a huge amount of info on the Ls430 section of the Forum that goes into some great detail about the radiator and it's resultant gearbox issues IF IT'S NOT DEALT WITH say at 10 years old / 100k miles Malc
  24. I met someone in a local carpark the other day, was admiring her pristine 400 /450 hybrid ( I can't quite remember now ........... on a private plate so I couldn't tell the year ) and thought I'd enquire as to if ever I might change mine she was saying they bought it at 3 years old, had it now 5 years and wished she hadn't the servicing costs and repair costs were through the roof, a money pit ..... at Lexus, and the indy they use for their other car just won't touch it coz it's a hybrid Malc
  25. well I don't know for some weird reason my rhubarb crowns have started, almost cropping these past few days ............ anyone else got some good news ? Malc
