  1. wow, thought I might have been the longest here with only ( about ) 20 years continuous .............. , in a Ls400 .............. you should now get a Long Service Commendation for being one of the most fortunate, and clearly astute, drivers on this planet Malc
  2. I think with a 10 year old car the on-sale value without full Lexus service history possibly wouldn't be too different if completed by an independent garage Just make sure the essentials are really done, say, the cambelt, waterpump and such like if it's miles and/or age related ........ you don't want things like that failing you when you're out and about Malc
  3. I think there are posts on here somewhere about superior MOT failing rust issues on the older RX300s ............. so take care if looking at this route Malc
  4. oh my, all as above, sincere condolences and for you to continue on your path to good health Malc
  5. affordability is in the eye of the owner for sure ... chasing amazing mpg and road tax sometimes avoids the obvious affordability of very low maintenance and on-going costs like that running a Ls400 for me has been magically affordable with tiny maintenance costs when compared to what i hear and know of comparable BMW and Audi and Mercs, Bentley and RRs coming back to an affordable estate, I know I saw a Lexus estate a while back ( an old one I'm sure ) and there are a raft of Toyota estates too i imagine ....... they would be " affordable " to run and maintain I'm sure I'm not too sure however that Lexus / Toyota ever perfected a sensible diesel engine that would last the course NOW the vehicle to get is the Lexus Land Cruiser for sure .. I posted on here a while back seeing one on a tv programme going across the Andes or summat like that btw my road tax is just the old fashioned £ 265 ??? guess I'm one of the " lucky ones " having experienced two decades of sublime motoring Malc
  6. hahahahahahaha,.................. you may keep it for a very long time then My first Ls400 I acquired in exactly the same position as you, but some 20 years ago now took it in as a stock car to my then car sales business and with silly petrol prices and no money around it just wouldn't sell ..... so i just kept it for myself and have had a Ls400 as my main car every day since ....... now on my third at 229k miles and having travelled in blissful comfort and with sublime power .,.................. maybe covering some 250k miles in that time Malc
  7. so back to an earlier happier post on here .................. my rhubarb is just about ready to pick the first puddings worth anyone else in this enviable position ? Malc
  8. a Ls400 could be the car for you I'm sure there's one somewhere with your name on it, to be loved and cherished for ever, well, a few years anyway maybe
  9. that would be a godsend right now if you could justify taking your young lady out for a spin .............. essential vehicle / transport maintenance if you're a Key Worker perhaps ! Malc
  10. what I do know is that over the years my speedo has sometimes just stopped functioning for no apparent reason, sometimes for months on end, and then with a change of temperature maybe, has self-healed, or so it seems it's fully functioning right now and fingers xd it will continue so yours might well perform similarly, especially if your car loves you enough Malc
  11. or maybe, just maybe, to provide an essential service to those Key Workers who need their cars functioning fully Malc
  12. I think some bad guys just clone stolen cars to make them look genuine ................ and the number plate is useful for that I remember many years ago i saw one of my then garage ( Brookland Kent ) stock cars being driven past my mum's house in Herne Bay when it shouldn't have been Phoned my business partner at the garage to ask what the f--- was going on and he told me that OUR car was safely in the line-up of cars for sale ! some one had cloned our genuine car .......... so we quickly got rid of it at the auction to save any future troubles with that car Malc
  13. I have noticed that my local Formula1 tyre and MOT place is till open for business Malc
  14. my next door neighbour has a 2010 Bentley and I just know the running / repair costs are beyond the pale ( and some other cars too ) I contemplated buying one and my indy quite assures me that I'll never be able to use it to do the 12/15k miles a year i normally drive .... it will be as much trailered down to him for repair as it will be usable on the road stick to the Lexus Malc
  15. I had exactly the same happen with my Saga policy back in 2013 .. it was just simply DISGUSTING and tantamount to a simple RIP OFF Asking them to justify it they said all sorts of stuff about higher risk areas etc etc ..... i asked for the evidence, they told me to just " bog off " effectively, they had zero obligation to do so Well, I had no choice but to pay up ....... moved from them for many many years thereafter BUT now, back with Saga, the best prices at the moment for me ..... and for the past few years too They simply lied to me back in 2013 and took the p - - iss, coz they could and they knew it DISGRACEFUL then back in 2013 Malc
  16. could you take her out for some essential shopping maybe ? keep her in fine fettle, even if it's just to somewhere like Pets at Home store to get essential cat food etc .. yesterday at our one there was only one other customer so quite " social distanced " ...... keep the tyres ok and battery recharging etc Malc
  17. the blessed simplicity of olden times eh ! It started about 32 years ago with the very first Ls400 ..... absolutely everything ...... Ls ........ Luxury Saloon eh ! Malc
  18. OMG that's worth at least £4k a door card ............ devilishly clever skilled fingers to do that job Malc
  19. Malc

    I am new

my first car in 1967, age 17 was a 1952 ( 15 years old ) Austin something or other, which cost me £5 and the Co-Op insce people, for whom I was so grateful for insuring me even then, charged me £25 for the insurance. YES 5 X the car's cost ................. so in real terms the cost of youth car insurance might have actually declined over the decades, of which there have been quite a few 😊 Malc
  20. hope you make a tidier job of it all in 2044 when it needs doing again Malc
  21. even my old and tired Ls400 has this very very expensive feature .... wow, at least £2000 a door card I bet Malc
  22. if you're referring to the lamp showing on the dash it could well just be a dodgy stop bulb at the rear ..... happened to me twice now over 20 years Malc
  23. Sandor, did you get to the bottom of the issue ? Malc
  24. hahahahaha.............. you'll probably get the Halfords logo appearing every time you start the car now 😊 Malc
