  1. Gentlemen, can I refer you to a much earlier post i made, something like Catastrophic Loss of Power Steering Fluid ......... quite a while back whilst all seems fine in this front for you right now, there's a niggle emerging in my mind that you might have forgotten about the pas cooling pipes that run in front of the radiator and the conglomeration of mild steel pipework ( that rusted through for me ) and all that I replaced ( had replaced that is ) in copper tubing and the appropriate flexi hoses having had to have my car trailered down to my indy for surgery at the time not too expensive but amazingly inconvenient as it's something one doesn't expect to just " go " ............. but after a qtr of a century, well, much is possible Malc
  2. just reading that Admiral are making a £25 refund to all car policy holders right now ( maybe ) as fewer car claims emerging Malc
  3. then that's the power of using a Broker i guess Malc
  4. and each and every car they insure is probably at less risk of incident damage with all this continuing lockdown and with motoring miles seriously curtailed they have surely factored in all this benefit to them and their shareholders I'm sure Malc
  5. I'm remembering my car sales days that you just NEVER ever hosed anything in the engine bay area with water at any time ever .... electrics in those days were just so vulnerable ..... but of course that might have all changed and getting water into some of this fragile electronic and electrical modern day stuff is quite ok Malc
  6. Steve, it's sound only but I can't interpret it I'm afraid
  7. my offside rear was much worse a couple of months ago after 35k miles since the last time they were pulled apart ... but duly freed up and now working properly ....... my indy is quite industrious ......... the red brake dash light was permanently on that caused me to have the brakes overhauled Malc
  8. my love affair with nearly buying a Bentley from time to time has always been brought down to earth by my indy mechanic assuring me that it would spend as much time being trailered down to him for repairs as i would be enjoying it out on the road ....... he tells me quite categorically that i could never do the stress free 12 / 15k miles a year that I now do in my Lexus AND to stop being daft and just keep on with the ( a ) Lexus ..... I've never thought about a Range Rover tbh ..... just no kerb appeal for me Malc BUT I do so love the older style Bentleys for sure, the 50's 60's models mainly
  9. have you seen the quantity of Bentleys for sale on autotrader lately ....... either no one wants second hand ones or maybe, just maybe, no one really wants them at all these days... well, apart from my next door neighbour who's had one or other Bentley for donkey's years ....... but only secondhand and covering about 2 or 3 k miles a year .. using his other cars, Audi etc . for reliability and kudos too ...... he has a beautiful old Jensen Interceptor too, now, that is a FANTASTIC car that I do quite envy tbh Malc
  10. even petrol and diesel cars too ....... so why shouldn't hydrogen fuel cells be used for cars too ? Japan is doing this to save the electric power being generated from its power stations for other than transport use ... is that clever I wonder ? I really don't know but it seems to me as a layman that it's a right thinking thing to try to achieve is there a great, or indeed any, advantage of electric vehicles over hydrogen fuel cell cars ? and buses, vans, HGVs ferries etc Malc
  11. I think it's the Toyota trial police fleet but i also understand Honda are " large " in Hydrogen fuelled cars in Japan too The advantage of hydrogen I guess is it's rapid refuelling whereas we know electric charging is a tad laboriously time consuming and not really effective for those that park their cars away from their own driveway or someone else's driveway Malc
  12. that's brilliant then and it saves you just shy of £2bn too Malc
  13. yes, they've been thinking maybe 5 years max once the Met Police fleet trial is done and dusted . fill-up points now in Hendon ? Heathrow ? and Swindon ? with a BP roll-out not far behind methinks After all, Japan is going over to Hydrogen powered cars / transport very soon with filling station roll-outs in place and all National Power generation for electric being effectively banned for use by cars ............ so i understand ! Malc
  14. those two old Ls400s did need MOTs for sure It's not many owners would however put more money into the car for repairs than the car's worth on the open market at that time I remember last year ( or maybe the one before ) i put about £2.5k into her with 4 x UCAs, cam belt waterpump 4 new tyres etc and knowing sh'es good to go for another 10 years at hopefully minimal excess maintenance costs .... a bit of an act of faith i guess, especially when last August I had the write-off after all that work completed BUT I could buy her back from the insurers and repair the silly little door squidge for relatively little money .......... Malc
  15. I'b be waiting just a little longer to get one of the new Toyota hydrogen power cars Malc
  16. just thinking of all the UK and EU safety issues you'd need to develop your new car into, to comply say 10 years and a couple of £££ billion maybe might be best just to set your sights a little differently and buy something that's already just like an estate ............ my neighbour has a S reg jaguar estate that looks quite commodius .. alongside two other jaguar cars too tho, for when one or the other is at the repair shop ( maybe frequently ) Malc
  17. In our usual climate I've never really worried in the slightest to have my heated seats working ......... my bum soon warms up, even on a really cold day Malc
  18. guess they used non OEM suspension parts etc and they had a very limited life thereafter ..... these cars were deemed not worthy to be properly looked after at some stage by their owners ... sad really coz they are now just about " classics " and quite sought after AND of course much much cheaper to keep on the road with repairs than equivalent Mercs BMWs Audis and of course ridiculous Bentleys Malc
  19. I've imported a few bits from time to time and found their system to be very efficient, correct and timely After paying the carriage, Customs Duty, VAT and UK handling fees the landed price is about 100% over their cost book price of the parts BUT about 50% only of the Toyota / Lexus UK price ..... a considerable saving on say UCAs Malc
  20. old technology might be returning then .................... Malc
  21. done this a couple of times and Fred Olsen is very very good .... don't leave it all too late though Malc
  22. I'm quite sure that ingenuity will not be short when it comes to you thinking hard about substituting the existing for a completely different set-up from a more modern and available model / marque .................. these cars cannot simply be " gone " for the sake of a windscreen wash arrangement that's a little " out of the box " your ingenuity will prevail for sure Malc
  23. keep in touch here whatever you decide upon Malc
  24. such longevity eh !............ 24 years old methinks ! Malc
  25. quite agree with you Malc
