  1. were these front or back or a mixture ............. mine lasted between 173k and about 205k before being replaced piecemeal ..... are yours all original at 213k miles? .................. and they arrived with L or R penned on them but looked identical when taken out the plastic wrappers Malc
  2. I was going to make a silly comment about a Ls400 sized fridge magnet ...... but decided against that after all, this is a very sober Forum Malc
  3. can one just imagine the wealth creation that the 3mn or so possible entrants from Hong Kong could bring to our nation following on from this Covid tragedy Vancouver benefitted hugely from the earlier exodus and GB itself could now take a huge surge forward in creative potential and a long term benefit to a more prosperous GDP phenomenon Malc maybe go from " made in China " to a new creative base of " made in the UK "
  4. ...... unless it's just condensation ! Malc
  5. a few days on and I really don't understand why the original " post er " hasn't seemingly been back to acknowledge the input Malc
  6. come come, let the mind wander a little .......... you could have a heat exchange pump in the ground spitting out oodles of calories .............. no, I jest, my house too is old, maybe 400 yrs, bit hard to tell, there's no one around who remembers and god bless the Land Registry who I guess hold all my original deeds somewhere as all I hold is a silly piece of paper that says it's a Land Certificate I digress a little, sorry no roof solar panels for me either i guess BUT as I live on the side of the tidal Queenborough creek perhaps I could install some sort of tidal power barrier and plant ..... now there's a thought ....... maybe a bit of a daft idea but I've had others too from time to time Malc
  7. don't you really need an aircon specialist ? Malc
  8. seems to me that simple refuelling at a normal " petrol " station is best for me as I have absolutely nowhere at home to recharge any electric car .. no car parking at home and no street lamp that the council or anybody might make into an electric charging point that me and my dozens of neighbours wouyld be able to use Reality will set in for Govts and the EV brigade ............... there are probably tens of millions of car owners in the UK like me where a simple fill-up at a " petrol " station will be the only way to go.......................well, that's unless we all Q up at the supermnarket car parks to recharge Malc
  9. but wouldn't one be afraid to actually use it ? having a car for special occasions is fine but these Ls400s are best used and enjoyed to the full methinks car " investments " rarely pay-off unless you're very very lucky ........ years and years of road tax and insurance and servicing and then not to get the pleaure and joy from using it everyday Malc
  10. often a gentle tap in situ resolves Ls400 problems Malc
  11. are you certain it's not just condensation heating up and blowing out as a little steam ? Malc
  12. likewise my old and ancient ( now 230k miles ) Ls400 I drive in permanent pwr mode I think it actually improves mpg AND it's permanently in " go go " mode, raring to go and just flies along when the throttle gets floored, there's never any hesitation,............... apart from the passenger though Malc
  13. this whole lower front bumper trim section, the whole length, I had surgically removed a few years ago now It's simly a tad too low for UK kerbs etc and aesthetically it really does suit the car not to be there I would think most Mk3s no longer sport this poor bit of design Malc
  14. Jack, hi again is all this info of use to you now ? Malc
  15. had mine done by my indy mechanic last year at 205k miles ( after 100k miles and 11 years ... the old belt looked in very good condition too as did the waterpump )........ certainly an all day job cambelt, check all pulleys and replace the waterpump too serpentine belt and coolant too at the same time I did of course leave my guy to get all the appropriate parts A good competent mechanic should be able to do the job but it would be better to have someone do it who's done one before I guess ....... and trusted My guy's in Margate and looked after my Ls400s ( my 3rd now ) for 12 years and very succesfully too ...... and my other cars too Malc
  16. My understanding is that this specific recall was in the USA but Lexus refused to do it in the UK I do suffer this stopping syndrome too, but have managed it well all these past few years by just understanding when it's happening, pop the gearstick into N and then restarting the car .... it's all rather seamless now and I can do it without even stopping and just gliding for those very few seconds she's in limbo ...... often entering a roundabout OR just using both feet, when braking with the left and slight right foot on the throttle approaching likely " stop " spots ........... eg a roundabout Now I'm reading it's likely to be the ECU Coolant Temp Sensor then I'll ask my indy to try to deal with it all for when she's next down there being looked after This is a very informative excellent Forum Post .............. thank you contributors.......... Malc
  17. has anyone anywhere a Dukes of Hazzard car for sale .................. it self cleans going through the local stream too Malc
  18. with garages and parking spaces so narrow these days I thought it was the auto-eject for when there's no room to open the doors Malc
  19. well Gumtree do now and it's extremely negligent and unprofessional of them to carry the advert still the advertiser is acting illegally BUT notwithstanding that it's just incumbent on the buyer to make sure the car's what's wanted Mine is a Cat N write-off, repaired and back on the road .... it was never off the road in the 4 months till i got it repaired ......... a slight squidge on one rear door But structural is different I guess when you're talking about a write-off .......... I would want to see the photos of the damage caused and the details of the repairer too AND if that damage was really just flooding............... coz in my simple mind that would be maybe worse than a simple " nudge " Malc
  20. ok I understand and that's good for most Toyotas then, BUT on our V8s the waterpump really is a bugger of a job and done with the cambelt and pulleys at huge intervals as it's an " all day " labour rated job and all together other cars I've had and waterpumps are relatively simple to deal with though Malc
  21. is changing a waterpump something like " preventative maintenance " ? if it's left another year / service it mighht just go from being ok to being dead in between times ...... and amazingly inconvenient too Malc I know my waterpump changes at 100k miles / 10 years shows me that the waterpump being changed is absolutely fine BUT I doubt it would survive asnother 100k miles / 10 years and in the interim cause catsatrophic issues
  22. I think I would find out what the " promotional " price might be and then compare like with like at another indy garage. Many owners with your age car would have many years ago stopped using the Main Dealer to save on costs However, last year on my / a similar Honda legend airbag recall by the main dealer they " health checked " and said the front discs and pads needed a change ( and this was correct too as it was on my list for my indy to sort out shortly ) AND quoted a promotional price that was too good to miss My indy told me to get the main dealer to do the work as he just couldn't get the parts at the price the main dealer was offering at ...... indy of course still does everything on my Honda Legend too along with my Ls400 Just compare like with like on that " promotional price " methinks Malc
  23. if you did this every 100k miles / 10 years then this specific cost would ameliorate
  24. tiny tiny mileage these past 10 years, not sure that's good for any car tbh but if the history shows good replacement UCAs by now then it could be good2go and that steering wheel and gear knob look 'orrible to my mind Malc
