  1. my local trusted mec does all my servicing think it was 1.8 litre in the gearbox had diff oil changed as well and was under 4 litres for both he said main thing with doing it was all the covers under the car to remove first to get at the drain refill plugs but chages are much better and not so stiff to get into first gear. synpower not cheap tho £14 a litre at eurocarparts!!

  2. i would try having the egr valve cleaned iv just added a can of bg244 though the car and is transformed much quieter smoother starts better and pulls better at low revs. im a massive sceptic but its made the car 50% better also try running the car at 4000 revs in 3rd for 50 miles i belive this helps the particulate filter self clean hope this helps ps dont use supermarket fuel and i run v power or ulitmate though it now and then.

  3. for the toyota the part filter is not far away from £1000 then depending on the state of the pipes and sensors it might req them too the pipe alone is over £150 then you have the killer the labour take the rav4 and the verso you get 9 hours to change them...

no is out of warranty!does the car feel any diff with the new part then?

  4. how do you know the egr is clean??have you had it off to check??just coz you put some fancy cleaner that does jack in the tank and run it on vpower diesel doesnt mean its clean......i have worked on these engines for a very long time!!cleaned more egr valves, inlet manifolds and rebuilt more than i care to remember it doesnt matter what you do these valves clog up no matter what!!!

valve was cleaned 2000 miles ago did it myself check out the pics on this very site. you say valves does the no 2 need cleaning also? and inlet manifold?...to be honest im sick of the car and the diesel engine!! lol all i seem to have done since i bought it is try and get it running how i think it should...id be happy if it ran as well as my mates focus 1.6 diesel

  5. hi mine is exactly the same and i know the egr valve is clean!! a thing iv just tried a can of bg244 in the tank ran it on shell v power also ran it on the motorway in 3rd keeping revs up at 4 thou for 50 miles seems to have helped flat spots low down and engine seems smoother quieter and more responsive guy at lexus newcastle told me never use super market diesel and do the high revs run once a month i use sheel diesel and every 4th tank use the v power

  6. hi everyone iv just bought some hoshi 18inch wheels for my is220 now iv been told i need 225/40 18 for the front and 255/40 18 rear is this correct?a local tire shop seems to think the fronts should be 245/40,s rears are right at 255/40 anyone help with this thanks

  7. (Dont let car washers put that wheel cleaner on.)

So does that wheel cleaner affect the wheels? What alternatives should I use then?

    Ta.

    Ahmed

Hi, I have read a few times to avoid the wheel cleaners on the forecourts as they can be quite a strong acid, hence not help the corrosion!

I dont have a problem cleaning with normal car shampoo and wheel brush and a bit of elbow grease, hence dont need a cleaner. For protection, like I say I use normal car wax but am interested in what other products people use.

try poorboys world wheel sealant good stuff

  8. if its done to reset it you just hold the trip switch then press the start button (without the clutch down) you will see the odometer count down then zero itself. job done

Have the same problem and tried this. Doesn't work. Any other suggestions???

    :crybaby::crybaby:

it tells you how to do it in your hand book

  9. have just taken off and cleaned the egr valve and mass sensor the sensor was very easy located air inlet pipe next to air box sprayed the fine metal sensor with crc air sensor cleaner spray the little sensor was dirty with fine bits of dirt attached next took off the egr valve and found massive build up of carbon in the valve its self and the manifold port under the valve was so full of carbon the hole which when cleaned is about35-40mm wide was narrowed down to about 5-6mm with the build up of carbon the tube leading from egr valve back into engine was quite clean put all back together and result car is much more responsive end eager below 3 tho revs and mpg up as well!!! pic 1 is port under egr valve, 2 is egr valve 3 is carbon that came out of valve itself! 4 is valve cleaned out

  10. got to agree about the deisel thing, the 220 was my first and last diesel, although i do have 8 renault master vans at work,

and not had any problems with them unlike the lexus

i think it would be great if someone could do an egr valve removal post with step by step photos and advise on any gaskets that need to be pre-orderd i think this would be a great help to many owners of 220s on this site :)

  11. will you let me know how this went?? and where is the egr valve located i'll take it off and see is there carbon build up

The picture below shows EGR valve No:2 (which has a red sticker on it), there is also EGR valve No:1 which is not visible in this photo.

  12. my 220d 2006 is doing 30 mpg at best! gearbox is worse than an old maxi i had 20 years ago the clutch is numb and gratety in feel it stuggles to keep up with traffic under 2500 revs puffs white smoke every now and then and the paint very soft hope potenial buyers read this post!!!! after a recall visit to lexus newcastle had one of there guys drive my car his verdict for poor respose below 2500rpm was poss egr valve in need of cleaning out or particulate filter? problem. car i was given was much better under 2500rpm felt the same above 3000rpm has anyone cleaned out their egr valve? and if so was it an easy job? and wot the hells the particulate filter and wheres it located? can it be cleaned? i can live with the cars other problems if i could just sort out the flat spots at low rpm any feedback welcome

when did you get your 220d?

my old one which i had on a pcp went back to lexus ealier this year and was sold at auction to lexus newcastle, i had the same problems which is why it went back early.

you never no it may be my old one, a black 220d reg K16 XUS

    ddd

    Got the 22dd 2006

the reg is not the same

The lexus is back from the dealers

The EGR VALVE has been replaced

    Cost £500!!!!!!!

The car is just out of warranty by 3000miles and by one month!!!

    But what a difference.

    Its like a new car.

It pulls from way down to all the way up.Very smooth.

Loads of grunt ...now feels like 180+ BHP.I can now over take at will!!!!!

Sixth gear now works from way below 60mph

I had a run from Cheltham to London.Half A roads and half motorway.Amazing drive for a diesel.

  13. Hi everybody...I'm the new guy here, and not actually a Lexus owner...yet. The IS220d is on order and comes with the new job I start on the 1st July.

Soooo. What is this about mpg!!!! I'm horrified. With diesel at £1.30 a litre and returns, some say of 35 mpg (and lower)...I'm going to be about £1500 out of pocket, based on the milage reimbursement I'll get.

I've read through the forums here, and can see comments on 5th injector. I'm assuming that a new car will have all the latest mods and engine mapping. What mpg can I really expect?? :msn-cry:

Let's say I'm an advanced driver with a very smooth style, 80 on the motorways and duels, very strictly in the speed limits elsewhere. My current Volvo has a published urban of 38mpg, and I'm getting 47 (though there are about two miles of uninterrupted 30mph per day on a cross town (Colchester) rush hour journey of 7 miles each way).

So what mpg can I really expect?

yes i would say 40 ish
