  1. ipods are going to go the way of the BetaMax....

What makes you say that Ian - I thought that iPOD dominated the market? That wasn't the case for VHS -vs- Betamax

actually, originally betamax did dominate the market...

But IPod has 2 critical flaws...

the first being it is a fashion icon - the moment it goes out of fashion, new sales will nose-dive...

but second, and more importantly, apple have shot themselves in the foot by restricting it to itunes - and not opening it up to the other downloads, and more specifically, the newer high-street MP3 retailers (like HMV)...

I mean, i could be wrong, but personally I think the generic (creative, iriver etc) mp3's players will be the ones to stand the test of time...

  2. I have driven a Prius for the day and it was amazing... 3 hours of driving and the fuel gauage never moved!

hybrid is the way to go

I seriously considered one - but from my research it seems they are only economical around town or sub 60mph...

the motorway runs they lose out - and unfortunatly thats the majority of my driving :(

And Mike - i see your point - but its not like were driving around in LS430's or M5's here - sure the IS isnt the most economical car, but come on, i think people have a right to complain about the current running costs...

  3. you can tell u dont live up north

round here we only have mobile ones, north yorkshire has mainly mobile traffic cops. They just usually follow you put blues and twos and pull u over

    what!

you mean the police actually see you doing something wrong and pull you over for it! :o

    Surely not!!! :duh: :D

All modern road policing can be done by a yellow box - which also saves lives...

    [/sarcasm]

But has also proven to cost lives............... :o

    i was being sarcastic...

all the latest stats have proved Speed Cameras DO NOT save lives... (in all of the regions using them, road deaths have increased), yet all the pro-camera organisations rattle on about how speed kills, and speed cameras save lives...

  5. actually, that turns out to be a very useful link - as it gives suggested number and sizes of boxes required...

working with what i have, and what (they think) i need, i might be able to get away with the student pack :P

  6. Nope - i'm the same - everytime i near the pump i start thinking about Prius's and small diesel hatchbacks...

and just like you - with that six-pot i just cant help enjoy the engine..

I wouldnt want to sell the lex for a derv, but if prices dont come down, i might have to! :crybaby:

  7. When we moved I went to one of the Big Yellow Self Storage places.

We paid £40 for a complete set of boxes designed for moving a 2 bed house. That came as a pack complete with pens, bubble wrap, tape and a tape dispenser.

We were desperate though and got caught out (we didn't pack in time and ended moving out sooner than expected as the buyers cash came through !)

Did the job for us though.

If i had the time i'd have gone to tesco's or somewhere like that.

Thanks for that info - i had the same problems as Mr M with supermarkets

Here are the options... more than i wanted to spend, but worth a thought at least!

  8. okay - sorry about another house thread (Maybe I need to start an Ian's house questions thread?), but im starting to look at packing up as i could be moving in a few weeks...

Now, i have a few boxes, but not many - so where's the best place to get these from, and preferably with little or no cost...

Also, any tips on packing them?

    thanks in advance...

  9. You still wouldn't be as quick as a Type R mate, although I've had some fun when the car was working right, but then on the way to Scotland one killed me, but the car was running about the same as stock then :(

You're looking at around 3k fitted I believe for the SC to be fitted.

Accelleration is officially 2.2 seconds faster I believe, from something like 9.5 to 7.3 - the official PDF can be downloaded here:

    http://www.mybad.co.uk

but also remember acceleration isn't everything there is no accounting for taste, the maestro turbo did 0-60 in 6.7s about the same as a type-r, would you get one? or with the civic, do you really want a car that has a gearstick on the dash. look for an altezza rs200 0-60 in 7.2, slightly slower but so much classier.

actually, as silly as it looks - it is the most natural place for it to be... seriously take one for a spin and you'll be surprised...

  10. it depends what you want... the IS and Civic are very different cars...

The Civic has an excellent chassis, and is the best scrabble wheel drive car i have driven - and apart from the torque steer (which is very bad) its a fanastic drive, but no where near as comfortable as the IS...

the Hatchback will be more practical, but as you say, except to get every Tom, Chav and Muppet to try and race you...

  11. As far as i am aware - i havent touched a single setting or changed anything...

My setup is exactly the same as it has been for the last few years - and the problem is from both machines, i even tried the old dsl modem, and the same thing...

Im almost certain its a problem on the line... but thanks for the guide, i will look into it...
