  1. The Denso will be quite expensive from Toyota :)...if anything I would also look at the Power Enterprise unit that Dave has too as it has been proven to support enough power when going BPU... I'm just staying away from these units as the stock Denso has been proven to flow up to 600bhp with the correct recommended voltage supplied not to mention it works perfectly fine for well over a hundred thousand miles as has been proven by lots of high mileage Supra's/Aristo's.

  2. The Alpine Unit I'm waiting to be released to all the small dealers in the US...after currency exchange rates, etc it shouldn't be anymore than £225 at the most at present...but if currency rates fall as they are predicted to do so and the dollar gains strength it'll be around £275 at most. Even then it's still a bargain!

This unit uses the existing amplifier to convert the output into a flat response...and you can hook up your own amp's to the Alpine unit. A DVD Player can be hooked up, not only that but Freeview TV, DAB, hell even a playstation, xbox or anything you'd like....BUT to do that you can pick up ANOTHER Alpine unit...Alpine Vehicle Hub Pro, where you can even use an iPod but the downside is everything is controlled by remote control as opposed to touchscreen. I'm looking at this unit too (haha letting out all my secrets!), mostly for DVD/DAB/TV use or even add a Xbox 360 on. I've already got the standard video input into the touchscreen from the SatNav unit, so all I'd have to do is hook up the Hub to that same input, and connect the SatNav via the Hub.

The changer cannot be replaced unfortunately...BUT there is good news...the Hub allows you to add any Alpine changer you want and control it via remote control...A DVD Player with MP3's would be awesome paired up with the stock CD Changer :).

  3. You can't do it since you'd lose all A/C controls :). You can do it by using the Head Unit in the glove compartment or something but that's just not convenient. I'd personally sell the Alpine Head Unit you have and pick up the unit I mentioned above.

The unit I mentioned DOES NOT replace the stock amplifer, instead it takes in all the "speaker inputs" and processes the signal so all the EQ'ing done on the amplifer/head unit is cancelled out, so you got a nice clean flat signal to play with and tune. This unit then has RCA outputs to go to the amplifer(s). So you'll still be using the stock amplifer :).

  4. If you want to use bold language such as "RC ones are pants", you should be willing and able to qualify your statements by transparently displaying the data you rely on, otherwise people may think that you don't have any data and you are just blatanty trying to sell your stock by rubbishing the competition.

    I'd be interested too :D

  5. I take it you've got the factory SatNav unit...? If so you won't be able to install a aftermarket head unit without much headache - it's not worth it.

Again another component on my shopping list is to pick up the newly announced/released Alpine PXA-H650...Just have to tap into the speaker outputs near the amplifier and install the speakers, etc with new speaker wiring running directly from the new amplifer(s). You'll get a nice flat response along with some tuning capability. Although expensive at £499 I'm picking mine up for about £225 ... that hooked up to a set of DLS 8.3 Components I have lying around along with a JL 8W7 ported and nice DLS amps will keep me MORE than happy :).

  6. Welcome to the club!!

I agree VERY under-rated car - everybody expects it to be some grandad car...little do they know

With regards to your mod list...here's my opinion :)...

Denso iridium IK24 spark plugs - Good choice!!

HKS cambelt (if required) - Not required...I'd much rather go and pick up a GReddy or Power Enterprise Super Timing Belt just to be safe.

FMIC (is ARC any good?) - Arc is one of the top dogs out there, but if you can try and find a GReddy 3-row for the same price.

Replacing cats? - Just go and do a full turbo-back exhaust system - I'd see Dave for a quality piece at a nice price ;).

Uprated fuel pump (walbro) - You could use the Walbro, or you can rewire the existing pump with thicker guage wire to give it the recommended voltage - either way ... a necessity at the power levels you're looking at.

HKS Super SQV BOV or Blitz blow off valve? - Do you like a LOUD chirp or a smooth wooosh...? Also not a necessity if the stocker is good.

Front and rear strut braces - Highly recommended - I suggest you pick up the TRD Front Brace as it is a SOLID piece unless you're looking to go with EDFC for the Tein Suspension then pick up the Tein Braces or even the Cusco braces. Also see if you can pick up TRD Race Sways along with TOMS Underbracing.

Uprated discs and pads - prolex grooved discs and Mintex pads (any good?) - If anything see if you can upgrade to the UK/US Spec Supra 4 pot calipers - that along with stock discs and pads will give you all the braking power you would need at your power levels.

Blitz or HKS Boost controller (will i need a fuel cut defencer?) - If you go with one of the below ECU's you wouldn't need a FCD, I'd personally go and pick up a MINE's ECU for £550-600 with increased timing, programmed to run on 98octane fuel, all limiters along with speed, boost, fuel removed and rev limit increased to 7500rpm.

TOMS ecu or MINES or BLITZ - I'd say Mine's as it's cheaper and easier to get ahold of - the TOMS you're mostly paying for the brand :).

    Hope that helps.

  7. Just wondering Dave, but how are the injectors not suited to VVTi apps? Due to different injectors being used?

With regards to the HKS Knock Sensor I've got it covered ;)

dont pretend to be a techie

all i know is the data showed the rc were no way near the PE ones

on knock sensor well done :D

You'd be surprised how thick you have to act to get the correct information :P it's how you learn.

When you say were no way near - I'm assuming you mean flow rates?

Regarding the Knock Sensor - Thanks :D . Can't wait to finally meet you in person though when I arrange my exhaust build up with yourself! :).

Have a good night people and thanks for the help.

  8. OK I completely understand where you're coming from - after all you are both competing businesses and can't let each other's testing data get out.

Although I've just laid a deposit down for a custom hand built and flowed T4 split pulse mild steel tubular manifold with a TRUE merge collector (quickest spool possible and GREAT top end power) and picked up the HKS Knock Amp (a friend is holding onto it) so will let you know when I can pick up a set of injectors. The exhaust is still being done by yourself as that is one hell of a deal! :).

dave, why is it so hard to give the person the answer he asks.....

i find it wierd though that you dont like the Rc injectors, however the Supra guys love em.....

but thats the wonder of consumer choice is suppose.

maybe in your application the RC injectors are not suited

Thanks Matt I appreciate it. I know the SP, Powerhouse Racing, Titan Motorsports, etc fuel kits all use injectors from PTE but they use a fuel rail specific for US Domestic injectors. I must say I have seen quite a few high horsepower cars running the RC Engineering injectors...where they've never ran into any problems. Also receive a flow sheet with the injectors too.

I guess I'm just after something that's a simple drop-in so will give RC a call on Friday to see what they say about cleaning and resizing the stock injectors to 550's. Weigh out everything and take it from there I guess - although I must say I've come across a kit of SARD 540's which can be had for half the price quoted on those Power Enterprise injectors - and SARD are by no means shabby either. One thing's for sure I'll be doing alot of research on injectors this weekend.

    Thanks again Matt :).

  9. Try RC Engineering in the US :)

I did...........RC ones are pants compared to these :winky:

Can you share your evaluation comparison data with us please?

Yes please, can you share your data Prolex?

As reliability is THE number one factor in me doing ANYTHING to my car. I'm a firm believer of paying for quality, rather than penny pinching so would rather know before I pick up a set since I'll be using the injectors for at least another 2-3 years (approx 10k-15k miles).

Not doubting you Dave, I hope you understand where I'm coming from. I'm sure anybody else would do the same in my position and try to find out how to spend their hard earned money :). Thanks again.

Try RC Engineering in the US :)

I did...........RC ones are pants compared to these :winky:

Can you share your evaluation comparison data with us please?

    No

    its commercially sensitive.

800cc injectors lying in wait !

800cc would be a bit too much for my goals...I'm only planning on going 450-475rwhp at the MOST since I don't want to kill the stock autobox for another year or so. I've got my eyes on the SP 4L80E transmission kit for higher goals.

  10. Just something that's cooking in my "baby pimp" (according to Maneesh haha) brain.

I'm just wondering, which injectors drop-in directly on to the stock Aristo fuel rail...? I'm looking at 550cc injectors for now.

Also would it be possible to use the UK spec MKIV Supra injectors on our cars with a resistor pack or something...?

EDIT: I'd also be looking at some sort of fuel controller ... trying to keep it as simple as possible.

  11. Norkep: Cool ... any more pictures of it...?

I may have found a place that doesn't give it that saxo/corsa racer boy look. Only problem is they need measurements in order to custom order a set - will also come with a lifetime warranty and are NOT as fragile as other CCFL tubes out there and are also "clear" (almost invisible) when turned off.

It's their Predator Chromium series...this is how they look like on a RX300 headlight -

    http://www.umnitza.com/popup_image.php?pID=1109ℑ=0

Looks pretty "mean" to say the least...

  12. Hey Jackal,

See that's exactly what was keeping me away from the Angel lights, all these Saxo/Corsa boy racers have them. The more I think about it the more I'm leaning away from them...think I will too since I just read that they are VERY fragile, and when installing, if even the slightest bit of pressure is applied they will crack and be useless - that's £100 down due to a teeny bit of pressure applied.

I've also seen that ClubLexus thread...The eBay projectors aren't the one's he's using...those are just some cheap chinese made projectors in the eBay link.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Infiniti-Q4...sspagenameZWDVW

The projectors Jeff's using are the Q45 projectors. As I said earlier as mean as they look, they just don't do the light output any justice, making it more of a aesthetic mod than a functional mod. It's why I'm planning on sticking to the TSX. I'm mostly into function over form...and if I can get both then why not ;).

I've been looking for RHD projectors for nearly a year now and just managed to come across a set at the right time. They're on their way here from Spain, will post up pictures of them as soon as they get here.

  13. To be honest mate yes I am a fan of the demon / angel eyes, think they would look good on yours :)

I have been quite happy with the projectors on mine to be honest, definitely better than the aftermarket HID's I had in the IS due to wntire unit being designed for HIDs - know where you're coming from in regards to the S2000 though, had one behind me one day and I was amazed at just how much light the car behind was putting out!

Oh trust me, wait till you drive with no motorway lighting at speed ;)...you'll feel the need to want more output hehe...here's what the TSX are capable of doing with a washer color mod to give the results in the pictures...http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8731&highlight=tsx+mod

PS: You've got reflectors and not projectors ;).

Yeah those S2000's have some excellent output I'm hoping the TSX aka Accord one's are just as good...the Accord Type R's here in the UK were the only one's with the HID's I've got...unless it was optioned on one of the other model's but they're VERY good.

Had a go a while back using EL Wire

    Not the best of piccs

Did you remove yours Norkep? How comes if you did? I take it was just temporary?

  14. Yep those are the Infiniti Q45 projectors - love the looks but they're too large for how they perform. They're not the best performers out there, although better than the stock reflector. Who knows if all works out well with my projector, I may start doing these for all you fellow people ;).

I've actually got a set of TSX projectors with a custom chrome shroud/bezel...

As far as I can tell...

The best projector is the LS430, followed by the S2000, then TL and TSX.

The Lexus LS430 paired up with ZKW lenses from latest gen M3's, etc have the best output, sharpest cut off, and are the widest you can get in a car.

The Honda S2000 is similar and is extremely wide and has a VERY sharp cut off.

The TL (Honda Legend) is a powerful Bi-Xenon projector, which has good foreground illumination and excellent cut off too.

The TSX is pretty much comparable to the S2000 in terms of output but sharpness the S2000 takes the cake.

Mind you all these projectors are VERY hard to come by in RHD versions and as soon as I saw them for sale, decided to just pick them up - total cost for projectors...£82 including P&P

Jackal what do you think of the retro's out there with the demon/angel/halo on our cars? I'm still leaning towards a NO...think it'd be worth it?

  15. Hello everybody,

It may seem I'm making loads of threads as of late.

I've got myself a set of 2003 TSX Projectors (Honda Accord) HID Projectors for a retrofit on the Aristo headlight to replace the POS reflector.

Since I'll be opening up the lights to do the retrofit, with a matt/flat black housing and remove the orange indicator piece...I was wondering would it be worthwhile to do a Demon/Angel Eyes look using CCFL?

I'm really undecided as it can be seen as "ricer" yet it would be a unique mod as I've not seen/heard of any GS/Aristo's with a retrofit let alone angel/demon lights here...?

If you had a choice what would you do?

    Thanks.

  16. Hi Matt - thanks for the recommendation...been looking at them too.

How you finding the noise on the external pump...? Just something else I read up I should be concerned about as internal pumps are near silent, but then don't want to go with a multiple pump setup due to the above reason.

  17. Hello again,

I've just been thinking, from having read the other thread about upgrading the wiring on the stock Denso pump to give it the full recommended voltage, etc.

Is there such a thing as too large of a fuel pump...? I've just got a little something in the works in terms of performance upgrades for the Aristo...where I'll need to either go dual pumps (Denso's) or pick up a single external pump.

The downside to two pumps is if one fails, you'll lose fuel pressure and engine can go KABOOM! That's where the single pump comes into play, as if it failed the engine would just shut down...much MUCH safer!

Now I've been looking at external fuel pumps, specifically the Weldon 2025-A and the Weldon 2035 External pumps. Now I'm wondering if I was theoretically running approximately 450-500bhp at the wheels, would a larger fuel pump than necessary cause me any problems? I'm guessing not since the fuel pump on our cars can handle 500bhp at the wheels with the upgraded wiring, yet our cars come stock at 280/320bhp.

    Any input...?

  18. Now all we need in this thread is Ahhh_Aristo and we can have a four way internet battle - Just kidding :D

Thanks for the input guys...just a quick question though...

If the knock amp is permanently installed doesn't it help tune the A/F ratio constantly? A little similar to how some stock ECU's work on our cars, where it learns a new timing/fuel map whenever the ECU is reset after a change in type of fuel?
