  1. the 5th injector should have been fixed already, but ask the dealer. if the car was first registered on nov 2006, then the warranty will expire on nov 2009, so they should do this fixes/repairs for free.

fuel economy is not strong side of this car, but 28mpg is pretty low. check tire pressures and mention the consumption to the dealer.

    Cheers!

I know they're not great for economy (though I notice you're getting 42mpg from a 220D! - did you get anything done to get that much?) but in the last few days of town driving (and I'm trying to keep in low revs and go very light with the right foot) it is now down to 22mpg!

    Can't be right, can it?

  2. So, the hunt is over!

I got a great deal on an October 2006 22D SE-L with MM and 30k (that has never been written off!) one owner from new, dark blue with grey interior (which match really well)

Arrived yesterday, and it's in immaculate condition by and large, it's going great, I find no problems with first and second gears, there are no squeaks whatsoever...

BUT... (and I know you'll all be really surprised by this) the fuel economy isn;t great (about 1/2 town and 1/2 open road driving so far) - I'm getting an average of 28mpg.

Now, I have read on here about various recall issues / free if you just ask warranty replacements and so on - things like EGR Valve, 5th injector, ECU etc.

However, I know nothing about cars really, and don't want to be palmed off by a dealer

Can anyone tell me a bit about these things? What is a free warranty fix? What should be done under recall? What are these things and what do they do? Are they likely to help fuel economy if sorted?

How do I approach getting these things done? Just call the dealer and ask? Say my fuel economy is awful and other owners have advised me to get them sorted under warranty?

Also, given the car is over two years old, there is a likelyhood that these things have already been done - how can I find this out?

Finally, is there any likelyhood that getting these things done could make things worse, or will they ALWAYS improve things?

Finally, on a lighter note - how do you clean the leather seats without damaging them - they're in good nick, but slightly grubby on the drivers seat and armrest, and I'd love to get it really clean to match the rest of the seats!

Thanks again for anyone who can help - you've all been great so far, and this forum is one of the reasons I got a lexus, knowing there is a community of people willing to help other owners.

I'll post up some pics for everyone if it ever stops raining over here in Northern Ireland!

  3. Hi Everyone

So, my long awaited lexus is being delivered on thursday, and I have a few questions

One is that I'm not sure I trust the auto lock to lock the car - is it possible to turn on an audible "beep beep" alert when the car locks?

Also, (the car is the MM version) does the Bluetooth work with any Bluetooth enabled phone for all features (accseeing phone book etc)

What should I know, what should I do and learn about first to get the most out of the cars features?

Finally, for now, how much does an updated nav DVD cost, and where can I get one (and does anyone know of a place to download them and burn then yourself - PM me!)

I have a lot more questions, but can't think of them all at the minute so I'll keep adding to this thread over the next days and weeks as things come to me!

Hopefully you can all help out a new lexus owner!

    Thanks

  4. When I traded in my IS220D for the IS200 I kept the original(black) Lexus mats they are sitting at the bottom of my stairs taking up space so....

Anyone who is willing to collect them is welcome to them (high Wycombe)

All in good condition just need a quick vacuum

The 1st to PM me will get them not sure if the mats for auto or manual are different but these mats are from 220 Manual

    Cheers

    Gordon

Hi mate - if they're not gone, I'll have them - can't collect, but will gladly pay postage to NI, and a contribution to the forums!

  5. Hello Lexus owners - me again!

Some of you may recall my episode when going to buy a 220D Sport from a independent dealer a month ago (turned out the car had been previously written off!) and most on here advised me to wait, and the right car would come along!

So I did - and I think it has!

Have negotiated a great price on a 220D SE-L and think I am going to seal the deal tomorrow - however, as yet, I have only seen images of the car, and have a question about something...

The car has a screen where the a/c etc normally is...

Does this mean the car just has sat nav, or does it mean the car has full multimedia package installed (I'm not sure nav was a standalone option - I think it was either MM or not, and that was it)

If it DOES mean the car has the MM - what does this entail?

    Nav?

    DVD Player?

    Better Sound System?

    Rear camera rather than sensor?

    Bluetooth Phone Prep?

Hopefully someone who knows about these things can advise ASAP, as it may be what seals the deal for this car!

    Thanks

  6. IMHO the price doesn't matter, the car has been in a crash and written off, it's been repaired but to what standard? It may be OK to your eyes but unless you are an expert then how are you going to know what has been done, OK the dealer says it's panels only but would an insurance company write-off a car that is less that 2 years old for a few panels? I doubt it.
It wasn't even 2 years old, I think he mentioned in another thread that it's a July 06 car, and according to above was written off in December 06, so wasn't even 6 months old!

Just out of curiousity, what's been going on with it between Dec 06 and now? Has it had other owners? Or has it been living in a salvage yard until someone found it and repaired it?

Exactly my thinking - a £26k car written off as a complete loss when less than 6 months old? Sounds like more than a few panels!

The sellers wife was driving it for the last few months, and as such there have been no owners (aside from the seller) in the interim - so it probably did sit in a yard for a while.

walk away, you made a good point about when you come to sell, there will be somebody asking the same as you now, and getting the same response

    WALK AWAY

Why not see what's available in N. W. England & if you find something get a cheap flight from Belfast via Ryanair or similar to follow up on it?

I was thinking about that - problem is, I have the existing car to trade in against something, and it's a big trip to take over for a dealer to give me too low an offer for the 3 series or to not like a car when I see it! I'd also prefer to give a car a few good test drives on different days, so the flying over to a single dealer doesn;t really suit that.

I think my next step is to keep an eye on lexus belfast, give them a call, have a chat about trade in of my own car and trade in value etc, and then, if and when one I like both the look and price of comes in (or when recession hits hard enough that the prices come down a bit!) I'll be ready to just take a skip up the M1 and go for it...

Though they DO have a fairly well priced 220D sport Canterbury Blue / beige lipari cellensia thre at the minute that, if they were willing to come down a little, I'd be keen to have a look at...

But I think, after all this experience, buying approved used lexus, from a proper lexus dealer, is the best way to go.

  7. Can't believe you are even considering it.

    Is it a wind up?

No - I really do like the car, and it all looks fine - just wanted opinions and advice - I think I've got it now though! :winky:

Seems like it's best avoided - certainly at that price.

Perhaps if the dealer knocked some serious money off it might be worthwhile, but hed want to be selling it at what - 75% of book value?

how much would you have to pay for a car like this in good condition in NI :)

How much would I pay, or what's the going rate? ;)

Going rate, for a sport model, as they're few and far between, is about 16-17k for a 2 year old with 30-40k on it.

  9. As I said yesterday, I, after a series of test drives etc, agreed to buy a really nice and very reasonably priced IS220D Sport...

So, before paying over any money, I thought I'd run a few checks on the car, just to be safe...

    And found out the following.

    * VRM recorded as a total loss by an insurance company

    Condition alert

    Recorded against VRM

    Description LEXUS IS220D

    Date 13/12/2006

Category D - Vehicle damaged but repairable - the insurer decided not to repair

    Police stolen

VRM and VIN not currently recorded as stolen by the police

    Insurance theft

VRM and VIN not currently recorded as a theft by insurers

    Outstanding finance

VRM and VIN not currently recorded as having outstanding finance

    Security watch

VRM and VIN not currently recorded on the security register as at risk

    Plate transfer

VRM not recorded as having previous plates

    Condition alert

VRM recorded as a 'total loss' by insurers

    Condition inspected

VRM and VIN not recorded as a repaired insurance 'total loss'

    :crybaby:

To be fair, the dealer did tell me the car had been crashed and repaired, but he'd indicated it was only panel damage. The car also looks perfect - I could see no sign of repair - and everything is in full working order and the car drives well (I had 3 test drives)

So now I find myself just not knowing what to do.

I would like to get autolign to check and approve the repair, but I'm in northern ireland, and can't find anyone offering a similar service over here.

Would the remaining Lexus warranty on the car still be valid?

I also don;t know if the price I got is fair or not for a Cat D car - how much should it take off book value?

What about insurance - will I be able to get insured for it, and will it cost me extra?

Resale - when I go to sell it, someone else will have all these same questions - will I even be able to sell it? How much less would I have to accept to get a sale or trade in on it?

I'm still really tempted by it - they're quite hard to come by over here - particularly with such low age and mileage and in the exact colour and trim I want - or to at least to go back and face the dealer with it ans ask how much more he;ll take off the price - but I really on't want anything dangerous, to be ripped off, or have a car that will cost me fortunes in the long term.

  10. So, (though I posted in another thread, but this will sum this one up nicely!)

    I bought it.

Dealer is going to put a full years tax on it, a full valet, full service, fix parking sensors, 4 new tyres, new rear brake pads.

It's July 2006, 23k miles, and I got, I think, a great deal on it.

Traded in my 2001 3 series, and paid £9500

According to parkers price guide, I should have been paying £12,335! (at least - my BMW actually had 93k on it)

Does that sound like a good deal to everyone?

Had 3 good test drives in it, including a 100 mile run today which was a good mix of tight country roads, A roads, dual carriageway and a bit of motorway.

No problems with slow take off, or with 6th gear - I assume the problems I was reading about are fixed with the different gearing in the sport? Also, is it a possibility the famous 5th injector issue is not a problem with diesel / sport? As I said, I called lexus, and they said according to the vehicle identification number that mine is not included in the recall.

There WAS a crazy bit of vibration at one point, for about 10 seconds, which then stopped again, but I take it this is common and lexus will fix under warranty if it happens again or too often and gets annoying?

Finally, thanks so much for everyones help in this forum - it's really been useful to know what to look for, what questions to ask etc, and I'm convinced my knowledge of the car and potential problems helped me bargain with the dealer to get a good price!

Thanks all. I'll still pop in every so often to keep up with my fellow lexus owners, but hopefully I'll never need to be here asking about any problems!

Never had that vibration problem. Did this happen while the engine was warming up (i.e. when it's idling above the 1K mark)?

You have 8 months of manufacturers warranty left, so I suggest you make the most of it. Manufacturers warranty will cover just about everything, especially when it comes to a problem related with the engine. If you ever get the vibration note down the conditions (weather, temp, driving speed etc) and then take it to the Lexus dealer so they can take a look.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking!
