My mk1 is nice and quiet as well now.
It came with low profile, Chinese crap tyres. Changed them over for higher profile Kumho Solus KH series.
They have just started resurfacing a road here and put on the first layer of tarmac....sooooooooo quiet, it's like your floating.
No doubt this will be ruined as soon as they put the top layer on :(
I had a leak from both cat flanges.
A bit of gun gum and it's all quiet again.
I don't have any leaks from the Y-pipe...yet.
There is a slight popping sound from the back of the engine (especially when cold). Fairly sure this is the EGR pipe which always tends to crack at the harmonica bit.
Will need to wait for some good weather before I can tackle that.
On my 1993 I used to get a beep and indicators flashing and there was a knob under the dash for the beep.
On my 1990 I get nothing and no knob under the dash, just behind the wheel ;)
Looking great :)
RE: boot release - Make sure the boot lock button (the one you can insert your key) is not pressed in.
Driver's side window - Mine does exactly the same. Auto down, but not up.
There are several topics about the needles not illuminating on here and on US forums. have a read and decide whether it's something you want to fix yourself, send it off for repair or live with it :)
At first I didn't like the wheels that much, but they have grown on me.
I did replace the tyres though. The ones that were on them were 235 45 17 and seemed quite lost in the wheel arches.
Now, with 235 55 17, they fill out the arches nicely.
The key that came with my Lexus was glued together with super glue and consisted of roughly 25 pieces :(
These 1-button remote keys are as rare as hen's teeth, but I managed to buy one from a guy who is breaking a mk1 on Fleabay.
£25 delivered and in excellent condition.
After some cutting, soldering and glueing - I now have a working remote locking key :)
The most fiddly part was changing over the blade....
They look like Mazda RX8 wheels.
regarding cam belt change:
Emailed seller and last belt change was on 15-08-2003 at 58,500 miles!! 2 years overdue
Sellers argument was that on the 1st of May the car had been fully serviced and a 71-point check had been carried out by.......wait for it.........Halfords!!!!
I wouldn't even trust Halfords to inflate my tyre.
I do! Well...description says "passenger seat burst" I don't see an issue with that.
It's not that difficult to either repair or pick up a 'new' seat.
You can probably haggle him down to £900 - £950 - good price if you ask me.
"The bodywork and trim is in the most sought after colour scheme of Cashmere Beige Metallic"
Not too sure about that ;)
I think it's too expensive as well.
Now if it was a nice silver MKI ........ :)
