  1. Well, after some problems at home, I decided to reduce my payments a bit, and changed the F-sport for a Volvo S60 R-Design D4, full of options, Acc, lane departure, blind spot monitor, keyless entry, pedestrian detection, nav, heated seats. The 5 cylinder diesel is a gem, overall I am happy, and not missing the Lexus as much as I thought, the acc is fantastic, and something I have wanted for years.

  2. Is there a way to stop the trip computer from reseting every time the car is turned off, I remember my VW only doing it if the car was turned off for two hours I think.

Gets a bit annoying if I have stopped for a short break on a long trip, only to find it reset, just means I can’t get an mpg figure for the whole journey.

  3. I Think the sport mode brings the car to life, with the lever over to manual mode too that is, the changes seem instant, not twin clutch quick, but it does give a good impression of changing gear, although I’m not sure if it really is, being CVT, if you get my point.

Still good enough to have some fun with, now and again.

  4. I remember when the first LS came out, I was working in a garage at the time, for a large company, and the directors had them. I have not driven another car as refined as that, the story was, put a glass of water on the engine and it will not ripple, I seem to remember it being true.

I’m not comparing that against the IS though, two different cars. I love my IS, but it could be better, most cars could be better. But its still one of the best looking cars, as was the 2nd gen IS.

Talking of mpg, the new BMW I8, is supposed to reach over 100mpg, but real world is 40-50. Its bordering on fraud if you ask me. We should ask for our money back, if they don’t achieve the figures stated.

  5. I have a wheel that is a different shade to the others. I took it to my local dealer, who looked into it and couldn’t find any history of it being refurbed, or replaced. Lexus uk didn’t want to know and left it to the dealers to sort out, with the option of me having to go to swindon (where I bought it) from Kent to have it resolved.

I contacted Lexus customer relations, and said that, if no history can be found on the wheel being replaced or refurbished then why isn’t it a warranty claim?. The outcome was, they have offered to cover the cost of a refurbishment. I don’t think Lexus are light years ahead, it depends on who the dealer is really, I didn’t expect to have to chase around and have to speak to customer relations.

I had an Audi before the IS, and I got to know the service advisor quite well, who often went out of the way to help me, with costs and servicing etc, my parting e-mail to him was, if Lexus are as good as he has been to me then I will be very happy.

  6. I don’t have a problem with the gearbox, and in sport mode, the car is a lot faster than you expect. Furthermore I would much rather put up with an occasional whine from the Gearbox (I’ve not heard that yet, I might add), than the constant clatter from a 4 cylinder diesel engine.

Most reviewers drive these cars like they are on a race track, and that is not comparative to real world driving, so I take most reviews with a pinch of salt to be honest. if you like it, go for it.
