  1. Funny when they tried to start telling the limo guy that he was obviously lying at the price he was currently paying to get his cars cleaned, how it couldn't possibly be that cheap !
  2. Not looking too good for Maclaren based on times for Friday practise in Oz !
  3. I could be wrong, but I believe that the 3G discs are actually made by Brembo, and then 3G put the grooves on them. So being Brembo, they should be pretty good.
  4. I don't think that "303 Aerospace Protectant" is actually a cleaner, as its name suggests it's a protectant for clean surfaces. Think they might do a cleaner as well, I'm not sure, but the Protectant is what people are normally talking about over on DetailingWorld etc. I've got the Einszett stuff for actually cleaning.
  5. I love The Apprentice ! I reckon that if a team had decided just to go on a shoe-shining mission, they'd have made loads more money. They could have sent a couple of them to several big London stations, had little up-front costs and potentially made almost pure profit. They really were muppets at the car cleaning. Had to laugh at wanting to charge £100 just to clean one car (albeit a big one !).
  6. With a blade you'll have to press down to a reasonable degree in order to get the water off, or it won't do anything. With a waffle-weave towel you can either "dab" at it (as Rob described) or you can lay the towel flat over the surface and pull it gently towards you. With either of those I think there will be less force pressing any grit etc into the paint compared to using a blade. Yes, if you pressed hard with a rag it could do damage too.
  7. I wouldn't use a silicone blade as if you get a bit of grit on that you can make a nice scratch on your car. I've used CleanYourCar a lot for my supplies, good service there, they have their own forums too. I found the 303 Aerospace stuff a little hard to track down and ended up getting it off eBay. Maybe it seems OTT, but I use one wash mitt for the upper parts of the car, a different one for the lower parts (dirtier) and a third one for the wheels (dirtier still).
  8. The sports grilles tend to be a lot cheaper from a Lexus dealer than eBay, although certain colours are getting harder to come by as stocks run low.
  9. On the auto box, I don't have one myself, but the only thing I can recall is some members saying how the fuel consumption on the auto is pretty terrible.
  10. There's an article which explains a bit about HIDs here. Proper HIDs are *much* brighter than regular halogen bulbs, that's the main reason people upgrade (so they can see a lot better at night). Don't confuse proper HID kits (which use a very high voltage and "bulbs" without a filament), with the HID-mimicing halogen bulbs that places like Halfords sell (which are just regular bulbs with a tiny bit of xenon gas and aren't significantly brighter than regular halogens). You can get HID kits for around £40-£50 on eBay. Sorry but I have no idea as to whether you can fit them on a GS.
  11. Try this site, very handy for finding part numbers. I don't know the RX300, but it looks to me like this diagram shows the sensors, they're labelled as "Sensor, Air Fuel Ratio", and it looks like the same part (89467-48011) is used in two different places. As I say though, I don't know the RX300 so please don't just take my word for it ! The price is showing as around 200 Euros, so it does sound like it might be that £180 part. A Lexus/Toyota spare parts guy should be able to tell you the part number anyway (they look on a system with these same diagrams).
  12. no £2100 so 200% markup Think we're going a bit off-topic, but £2100 selling price when the buying price was £1057 is pretty much a 100% markup.
  13. Here's the posting from Aztec with pics of the one that he made. If you go through the following posts then you'll see more details about how he did it.
  14. I'm sure lots of members have had keys from eBay cut pretty easily. I haven't done so myself, but hopefully others will comment further.
  15. Yep, I agree, and a kit like that should not have been advertised as "brand new", since it clearly isn't. But if kits like that were offered up for sale with a realistic description of their condition, I'm sure they would still have been snapped up. I'm just saying "don't throw the baby out with the bath water". Apologies to non-native-English speakers if that doesn't translate too well !
  16. Let's be realistic though guys, these parts are pretty hard to come by. Maybe ask for a discount to reflect the condition of them. I don't know exactly how much was paid, but you can't get them new, so you have to ask yourself how much the item is realistically worth.
  17. I said I'd be coming, back in this post, but don't seem to have made it onto the list yet.
  18. What is the model number of your head unit ? You should be able to get the installation instructions from Panasonic. I randomly picked a DVD head unit from Panasonic, CQ-VW100N, and on that model the "side brake" wire is bright green. The trouble is though, that's a wire on the Panasonic harness. If you have no harness and you're just trying to attach to the connector at the back of the head unit, then I have no idea what pin number that is, and/or if that might correspond to a bright green wire on that lead you bought off eBay. Neither the installation or operating instructions from Panasonic appear to show the pin-outs of the connector on the head unit, sounds like that's what you really need.
  19. Lots of us have modified our cars. Some to a very small extent (e.g. new grille), others with major engine mods, and all sorts in between. You will see a lot of people listing their mods in the signatures of their posting. Other people have the full details of their cars in the club Registry (see link near the top). Plenty of people have either not modified theirs though, or at least if they have then they haven't changed the look of your car, so you'll still be in good company if you keep it totally OEM. It's still a car that looks awesome IMHO without any mods whatsoever ! If you do start changing things though, you know about the slippery slope .... :winky:
