  1. For the map light LEDs, I used one of these. It's very bright !
  2. It's any of the specifications of oils that DimitrisTS has mentioned above. This is from the online workshop manual here, and the service sheets therein.
  3. My guess (so it could be wrong) is that the IS300 just has slightly different gearing (different engine etc), so therefore the oil capacity is slightly different because of the different amount of metal (gears) inside the diff.
  4. I remember this coming up before, and I checked some past threads where some folks seemed to think that changing the fuel filter isn't necessary on the IS200. However, I found a service schedule (not the one with my car) which shows changing both the "fuel filter and in-tank filter" every 50K miles or 5 years. My car is coming up for a 10 year service so this would be applicable. Any thoughts on this ? On a related note, how about changing clutch fluid ? The schedule in my car doesn't mention it, but again this other schedule mentions changing clutch fluid along with brake fluid at every other service. I've suddenly realised my car needs servicing (how time/mileage flies !) so am trying to figure out what does and what doesn't need doing, so I can give a garage a specific list (e.g. I've done several of the usual things recently, e.g. cam belt has already been changed, so have spark plugs, air filter and coolant).
  5. Hmm, not sure that an insurance company would agree that you're disclosing all the "material facts" if you're in the military and tell them you're just a "civil servant". Your decision, of course.
  6. Yes the brakes are exactly the same on all the IS200 models. Also check Lexus/Toyota for a price, the part number is 04945-30130 for the front and 04946-30070 (or 71 - check with dealer) for the rear.
  7. Another garage should in theory be able to set your car up to whatever settings you give them, and the WIM settings are available for this sort of purpose. The real question is whether the garage has the necessary experience and equipment to do a decent job - e.g. the caster angle on the IS200 isn't directly adjustable, but is indirectly adjustable - another garage might tell you that the WIM caster angle is impossible to achieve.
  8. The rolling circumference of the tyre is what matters. If you have bigger wheels then you normally have lower profile tyres to compensate, keeping the circumference of the wheel about the same. If you have non-standard-sized tyres on the wheels though, that might have something to do with it. If the car thinks it's going a lot faster than it really is (as in this case), then that could imply that the wheel/tyre combination is smaller than it should be. Of course, there could be other explanations as well.
  9. I don't think they're all the same. Sometimes though it might be that a company like Lexus only uses a small number of variations of a locking wheel nut, so you *might* get lucky and find another owner's key that fits.
  10. DimitrisTS, I think those figures are for two different engines. It's 1 litre for the IS200 with LSD, 1.15 litre for the IS300 with LSD. Either of those specs of oil can be used.
  11. Sorry to hear about your loss Graham.
  12. It's the way of the world, I'm afraid. It's not just Lexus, it's the whole car market. And bear in mind that the depreciation is only on paper until you actually come to sell it. And even then, the cost of a replacement car will similarly have plummeted, so actually your cost to change car may well not have changed much to if your car had depreciated a lot less !
  13. You've already got one thread on this in another forum though ? On the temp/clock display, you have to remove the a/c unit with this in when you're installing it, so it sounds like that's not been connected back up properly, check the connector on it.
  14. It says on one of those links that they'll only sell it to registered locksmiths. Does sound good but I also wonder if it's too good to be true (especially the eBay one) ?
  15. Well done Asi, get the pics posted up ! :D
  16. Congratulations ! Make sure you post up some pics of your new motor so that we can admire it too. I would strongly suggest getting a full geometry setup at Wheels in Motion. The OEM setup can result in tyre wear problems (particularly on the inner edge) and poor handling. It costs about £100 and you won't believe the difference it'll make to the handling (e.g. being more stable on the motorway).
  17. It will be out, but it should be only about 10% out. Reading 40 when actually doing 30 isn't right, it shouldn't be that far out.
  18. Your best bet on the keys is trying calling some auto locksmiths and seeing what they can do for you. As for the locking wheel nut, what sort is it, is it the sort with three separate holes in it ? If so, they're pretty poor and you'd probably be better off getting that removed (e.g. hammering a slightly-too-small socket onto it and getting it off that way, or using a locking wheel nut removal tool from somewhere) and getting some decent ones. Otherwise Lexus can probably help you with getting a key for it.
  19. Is the extra lead you mention, which isn't connected, part of the amp bypass lead or part of the loom from the new head unit ? It might or might not be important. The "Radio 2" fuse is used for a whole load of things as well as the stereo (electric windows, door locking, etc, etc), and is a switched live from the ignition. The "Radio 1" fuse is only used for the stereo and is a permanent live.
  20. There's a half-leather interior on eBay at the moment with a starting bid of £300. Seems to be just the seats, doesn't even mention the door cards. Bargain, eh ? :duh:
  21. No, it's fine to use all the time if you want to, all its doing is providing a different "map" to the throttle pedal, i.e. for the same distance of pressing the throttle pedal down, with snow mode engaged it opens the engine throttle less than usual. It's really just a bit like putting a sponge underneath your throttle pedal.
  22. Yes, what you bought on eBay is a standard Toyota adapter which will work for IS200 models without the additional amp. Have you got the extra amp ? It's hidden behind the glovebox on the left side of the car. If you have an SE or Sport model then you'll have it. In which case you'll need an amp bypass lead like this one, which as the name suggests, bypasses the amp and connects the new head unit to the speakers etc. If you have OEM satnav then you will also need an extra box of tricks to make your satnav work with the aftermarket head unit. If you don't have OEM satnav then you don't need that (but still need the amp bypass lead). Here is a walkthrough and pics about attaching the amp bypass lead, which also shows where the amp is in the first place. You don't need to remove the amp afterwards, but it won't be doing anything any more.
  23. ok, cool, not far away at all then ! Just let me know :winky:
  24. Yep, after taking the screw out it just needs yanking up and out. See the instructions which show the clips (in step 3) here.
  25. I'd be suprised if the ToyoDIY diagram is wrong. Are you going to order this from Lexus/Toyota ? If so, they should be able to confirm for you exactly what's in it.
