  1. You have to be careful when swapping head units though, if 5-digit number on the front of the head unit is different from the existing one, then it may well not work.
  2. Bummer if she was uninsured, but that would explain why she didn't want to admit to it at first ! You'll need to check what your insurer's policy is for an accident being caused by an uninsured driver. For example, Direct Line actually say that you won't have to pay any excess or lose your NCB in that sort of instance. You should probably report it to the police too if she was uninsured.
  3. Hi Norman, the site you want is this one. Put in the details of your car and you'll be able to find all the parts info that you need. The part numbers that Lexus/Toyota will want are the ones on the right hand side, and sometimes there are multiple versions depending on exact model, later parts superseding earlier ones etc. I'm not quite sure from looking at it which part is the actuator that you need, but I think you'll find it on this page.
  4. Yes, ideally you want to reset the ECU, to speed up the re-learning of fuel mixtures etc. Instructions to reset the ECU are here.
  5. The Pioneer unit does play MP3, WMA etc, but only on CD as you might guess. Though you can fit a lot on a CD of course. It supports other USB device playback as well as having specific iPod integration. The Bluetooth seems to work very well on it combined with my Nokia phone. No, I'm afraid you're stuck with blue for the illumination, though you can change the dash to match as you say ! :)
  6. I really wanted to make this, but it's doubtful I'll be able to (though still hoping !) since I'm stuck with a crappy Yaris which (after today's experience) isn't a lot of fun for pounding up and down the motorway, and I'm already going to Japfest on the day before :(
  7. Given that you haven't mentioned DVDs Skraggy, I wonder if this would be your best bet ? For example, I've got this and it sounds great, and doesn't cost a fortune. Includes iPod support and Bluetooth.
  8. Foliatec is specially designed for brake calipers. It's not cheap but is supposed to be very very durable. Halfords sell it.
  9. I'm sure I've seen postings about people repairing failed LCD displays on the LS400, I wonder if that would be a better option ? But I'm probably stating the obvious here, you may well have exhausted that possibility already. I don't know these cars at all, I'm just going by the parts diagrams. But the displays on the LS400 and SC400 look like they've got completely different buttons so I would guess that they're different units (not just cosmetically) and have different wiring too. But I suppose you'd have to try it out to know for sure.
  10. Lol Stav, what an idiot ! Will be interesting to see if he replies with a picture of the "supercharger"
  11. Another member in your area might be able to recommend you somewhere. But if they don't, or even if they do, then you could always still consider a trip to WIM. They're at Chesham in Bucks and that's not exactly a massive trip from South Wales. You will then at least know you've got the experts on the job, and it'll be a great drive home ! (as well as stopping the premature tyre wear you'll almost certainly notice a big difference in how the car handles on the motorway and other ways too)
  12. Well that was silly. I'm sure you could have sold the baby on eBay for a tidy sum and financed the purchase of a tail pipe !
  13. If it's a bottom loader like mine then it's not easy to take apart. But the same thing happened with mine. You can take it apart yourself if you've got some small screwdrivers, and then you'll be able to get the discs out, it's a waste of money to pay Lexus to do that. Don't bother trying to get a replacement OEM unit, they'll either cost an absolute fortune from Lexus, or you can get one secondhand but it will fail again at some point. The price of an aftermarket unit can vary depending on what you want, e.g. iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, DVDs, satnav etc. There are various threads explaining how to fit an aftermarket stereo and how to get and prepare a fascia adapter in the Workshop forum. Then there is the Audio/Video forum where you can always ask questions to get recommendations on particular units to go for. You'll find loads of threads there from LOC members who have replaced their head units.
  14. What are the codes exactly, P0303 and P0305 ? No more ? The coil packs failing is just one of many possible causes of a misfire. There are loads of other possibilities. The coils are obviously fine if you've changed them all and are still getting the same problems. How about the spark plugs, are they ok ? Have they been changed ? The injectors could be faulty, could be valve problems, lack of compression in those cylinders due to damage, electrical problems, fuel issues, etc, etc. When did the problem start happening, had some work been done on the car shortly before then ?
  15. If you contact TTE in Germany, I'm sure they could get you a copy of the certificate for the supercharger.
  16. Good point Stav. But if you could show the turbo was fitted at a certain date (e.g. with invoices from a garage ?) and then at a later date it passed the MoT, that might be good enough ?
  17. We need more info like Stav says. How do you know they're burning out ? Where did the coil packs come from, were they Lexus/Toyota OEM parts or something else ?
  18. There's an emissions test in the UK MoT, as you might know SpOcK. So if any turbo'd ISs have successfully been through the UK MoT then they'd have certificates saying they'd passed ok.
  19. I've tried putting on my fogs just with sidelights, in the fog, to see how well they worked. Waste of time, couldn't see a thing !
  20. Just to add, a search on eBay for "spinning valve caps" will find the Richbrook type.
  21. Do a search on eBay for "locking valve caps" and you'll find loads :winky:
