  1. I have an IS200 so can't comment on anything SC-specific, but it doesn't affect it really. As long as we can still pass the emissions part of the annual "MoT" test, then we're ok. Which is usually not hard as long as you've still got your cats.
  2. Might be worth asking the mods to move this to the IS200 forum ?
  3. Yep, take off the gear knob, then carefully use something like a screwdriver (wrapped in some tape to protect the trim) to level up the chrome gear surround and it will pull up and off, including the cigarette lighter bit.
  4. From doing a bit of Googling, it looks like the M62 has had different generations, with potentially different specs. Is that right ? If so, which generation did TTE use ?
  5. Has it been serviced recently ? Has this just started happening and it was fine before, or have you only just bought this car and it's been doing this from the start ?
  6. 1. There is a special tool for this, yes, but I don't think you need to use it. I've not done it, but if you can't get it undone, it's usually suggested that you brace a breaker bar against a bit of the chassis then briefly turn the engine over to apply the leverage to loosen it. Edit - see this thread. 2. Don't know how similar it is, but I think your mechanic is thinking of the 4-cylinder 3S-GE engine, which is in the Altezza RS200, rather than the 6-cylinder 1G-FE in the IS200. I'm sure he won't have any particular problem though.
  7. Good stuff. Did you get the LOC discount too ? Details about it here. Looks like Opie Oils is a great places to buy some spark plugs this weekend !
  8. This was one of my main reasons for starting this thread, i.e. although you shouldn't really need to "service" your brakes (other than of course checking pad thickness etc), perhaps on our IS200s we should start doing so, but how often should we do that, and should we be checking the sliding pins, or pistons, or both ? Checking them every 6 months sounds a bit OTT though, I hope they don't need checking that often ! Will be interesting to see how yours look after 2 months.
  9. Thanks, yeah I know what you mean about "before" ! :D Just need some 18s now to finish it off ! And fit my front and rear TRD skirts (picked up the rear one today). Will need to think about a re-visit to WIM once the springs seem to have fully settled.
  10. My no claims was protected, so it won't hit that. I had to pay a £250 excess Even though my no claims will be ok, they still might put my premium up because of course the fact I've had to claim might show them I live in a more "risky" area :( The Lex feels soooo low after the Yaris though, feels like I'm sitting on the floor and driving !
  11. Just a quick update. After about 6 weeks, it looks like they've settled a bit. Now approx 33mm gap at the front and 45mm rear. New picture below :
  12. So do we think it's usually the pistons, and the bottom one in particular, rather than the slide pins, that cause the problem ?
  13. My car just got MoT'd, and sailed through with no problem (nine and a half years old now), HIDs and all ! :D
  14. Just got back from the body shop, car looks as good as new again, very pleased to have it back ! :D The new panel is the one closest to the camera in the second picture (rear three-quarter panel).
  15. Might be worth looking at what SPC Horsham are doing with Dave's car, i.e. turbo conversion (rather than turbo engine swap).
  16. Saw your car at Japfest, very nice ! :D
  17. Well done on getting your pics posted, Icemahn ! :D
  18. I tried Googling this and it doesn't sound promising :duh: But it has been suggested that Sony can give you ways to get into it if you have proof of purchase etc, have you tried that at all ?
  19. You mean flashing it won't work ? e.g. it still needs the password or doesn't change the password ? How about the method of removing the battery ? I don't really understand what you're saying about the overclocking issue though. Are you saying that it's suggested that if you try and overclock it, it puts on its own BIOS password ? Did you try overclocking it or did you leave it as standard ? I guess you could try a key generator, but is it possible to hook one up to where the BIOS password is being entered ?
