  1. This set (two ratchet axle stands and trolley jack) from MachineMart sounds like a potential bargain at only £32.89, just that it seems to be out of stock.
  2. Thanks folks. I've seen that trolley jack in Halfords and wondered if it was any good. Thanks for the Machine Mart link Janey, some of those look interesting, and they've got a store in Twickenham, which is pretty easy for me to get to.
  3. I tried looking on eBay UK at completed listings, and saw one that went for £100 on "Buy It Now". Link here
  4. For the settings, send Tony a PM, ask him very nicely, and I'm sure he'll do his best to help you out. If you get it done, make sure you get a printout of the new settings, and then again if you ask Tony nicely, he can probably tell you if they've done it correctly. Whilst Tony is potentially helping you, you might like to consider this thread to help a very good cause in Tony's name :winky:
  5. What sort of price are you looking for ? I'm not asking because I can help you directly, sorry. But I was asking so perhaps others could give a view on whether your price is realistic or not, or perhaps you've just been unlucky in not being able to get hold of one ?
  6. Thanks. I'm trying to figure out whether you get one or two stands for that price from Halfords. The picture shows too but it doesn't make any reference to getting a pair of them ! I've seen those in the store and they do look more solid. Is it worth me getting a trolley jack at the same time, do you think ? It's not exactly something I'd be planning to use often. Or are the cheap trolley jacks not much cop, and I might as well use the OEM scissor jack ?
  7. I'm not really qualified to say much on handling specifics, although I do wonder how many miles your car has done, and whether you have some suspension components that need replacing ? I imagine that some of the more expert members here will be able to give you some more specific advice. As for WIM, it definitely makes a big difference. I took my IS down a local road of "twisties" soon after having it WIM'd and I was amazed at the transformation. The WIM settings are available (either on this website or via Tony) and you could get someone local to set up the geometry, as long as those local people are competent enough to set it to those WIM parameters (e.g there seem to have been cases before where some garages don't really understand it). Perhaps someone on the forum might be able to recommend a decent place to get this done near to you ?
  8. I need to get some axle stands to help with painting my brake callipers. Should I just pick some up from Halfords ? Or is there anything particular I should look out for ? Are all axle stands pretty much the same ?
  9. It was at about 11:30pm I think, down to junction 3.
  10. I was driving back from London last night and went through a blizzard on the M3 on the way home ! :o After I got off the motorway, the roads were very slippery, so for the first time I engaged "Snow" mode for its originally intended purpose, not just to save petrol. Still had one slightly scary moment simply turning off a main road, where the car hugely understeered towards the kerb. Luckily I was taking it very easy so no problem caused. When I was nearly home some teenagers were making a snowman, but obviously thought it would be amusing to chuck what sounded like a pretty large snowball at my car, which I wasn't expecting and gave me a bit of a shock. Haven't had a chance to look at in the daylight, but they'd better not have scratched it, the :tsktsk: ers
  11. Yeah, HIDs are great ! :D About asking for it in writing, it's up to you. Personally I wouldn't bother but I'd probably make a note of when I spoke to the insurance company should it ever be queried.
  12. Good luck to you and the Lex, let us know how you get on !
  13. Indeed, I was just thinking about this last night, as it was beginning to feel really cold. It's quite a while since I've had a RWD car. But then again I usually take things pretty easy if there's ice around. Once had an accident on the M25 many many years ago now, when the road turned to sheet ice and I just became a passenger, pretty scary.
  14. This sounds like a great event ! I can't make it, but wish I was going ! Look forward to seeing lots of pics ! :D Maybe videos too ?
