  1. Erm, I wasn't trying to get into an argument, but whether or not there is an issue with HIDs (and I don't think that's the same thing at all, I think you may be confusing the factory fitting of OEM HIDs with what gets tested at MoT time) it's not something that stands out as glaringly obvious to any passing policeman. The spacing on your number plates is clearly obvious for anyone to see. Changing it is illegal. Why change something that practically shouts out "please stop me and give me a fine" ? You're giving the police a perfect excuse to pull you over if they feel inclined to (and perhaps check other things on your car at the same time ?). I agree that perhaps the law on this is perhaps a bit silly, but it is the law after all.
  2. It is the rear central jacking point for the IS200 though. Check out the link in my original posting, which is to the online workshop manual, which I believe was produced by Lexus. The owners handbook only talks about using the scissor jack, which will obviously use the usual jacking points at the side. Surely there's also a central jacking point for the GS too at the rear, for using a trolley jack ?
  3. At the risk of seeming harsh, the law says you can't change the spacing on your number plate. So if you change the spacing and get pulled for it, is it a suprise ?
  4. Are you sure you're not just referring to the fact that factory-fitted HIDs have to be self-levelling, as opposed to actually what gets tested in an MoT ? For example, factory-fit HIDs also have to have headlamp washers, but I'm pretty sure that's not an MoT requirement.
  5. Thanks, but I thought axle stands were normally used on the axles ? So it would be better to place my axle stands there at the side rather than under the axles ? Is that meant to be a picture of an axle stand, I thought it was some sort of different jack ?
  6. Does it ? I could only see points indicated for where to put a jack, nothing indicated on the axles. Did I miss something ?
  7. How did I know someone was going to say that ?
  8. Following on from my previous posting on this subject, where exactly should I place axle stands under my IS200 ? I can see where I am supposed to jack the car up from (using a trolley jack) from the diagram as per below from the online workshop manual diagram here (i.e. under centre of front suspension or rear diff). What I'm not clear on is where to put the axle stands when the car is jacked up though
  9. Some people are just :tsktsk: Good that your other half was there to see what happened and to tell them what he thought.
  10. I could be wrong, but I'm not sure that the first part of that statement is correct. I had problems with the headlight levelling system on my previous car (with HIDs), they kept breaking. But the MoT seemed to only test the level of your headlamps. If the broken headlight levelling system means your lights are pointing wrong and they can't be adjusted back, then yes, that will fail the MoT. But if they're pointing the right way then I don't think it matters MoT-wise if the levelling system is broken.
  11. You beat me to it ! I think you've paid a roughly similar price to me, those caps are pretty expensive !
  12. Looks like it's in the Workshop forum, as opposed to the Knowledge Base. Link here
  13. I can't wait, really looking forward to the difference once they're fitted ! :D
