  1. Great news that you got it sorted, and thanks for letting us know. After seeing Tony's wheel balancing machine at WIM, and seeing that it tells the operator exactly where to position the weights (not leaving it up to them to guess), and even can give a printout of the balancing, I'm now highly dubious of whether wheels that are supposedly "balanced" by most garages really are ok. Sounds like at least your Lexus dealer knew that they were doing.
  2. I don't know any specifics about the IS220d, but the onset of cold weather can often seem to tip failing batteries over the edge. Sounds like the battery is charging to a certain extent, since your motorway run seems to have charged it up. But my guess is that it's not holding its charge and will be dead again in the morning.
  3. A number of members have reported big problems in this thread when running on LPG without Flashlube.
  4. Another advantage of Freesat is that you just need to get a satellite signal, which in a lot of places will be easier than getting a reliable Freeview signal.
  5. It might be a long shot, but is there any chance of you being able to get in contact with the previous owner(s) to see if they have any other keys knocking around ? Definitely give the ECU reset a try though, as Wozza has suggested.
  6. So does the locking work fine, 100% reliably every time, and the alarm etc ? (e.g. alarm not going off by itself). Is it just the immobiliser that's the problem, i.e. you can't start the car sometimes ?
  7. Is that the LOC team out on patrol ?
  8. Sorry, that confirms that it's not a master key
  9. I believe that the thread is M12x1.5. I think that the shape of the base of the nut is important though, as well as the thread size. See my thread here on a similar subject. I'm guessing that the nut shape is probably partially determined by the holes for the nuts on the wheels, but hopefully someone who knows a lot more about this will be able to help you out. Maybe it'll help if you can post up pics of those holes on your wheels ?
  10. Surely not unless it was under warranty or can be proved to have been unroadworthy when they sold it ?
  11. Interesting, thanks. To be fair though, it sounds a lot muddier than the DfT are making out, and I doubt that anyone has been prosecuted for this - if they had been I doubt they'd be using phrases such as "in the Department's view ...". As I said, if it was that big a problem, then they'd be making aftermarket HIDs an MoT failure item, testing self-levelling, etc, etc.
  12. As Wozza said, that doesn't sound good. If you don't have a master key then you're possibly looking at a new ECU (expensive) to get any more added. Might be worth trying to find an auto locksmith to give you a quote to see what they could do (will cost a fortune from a Lexus dealer). Put your key into the ignition and watch the flashing security light on the dash as you do so. Does the light come on for a second when you put the key in and then go off, or does the light go off immediately as soon as you put the key in ? This is a sure way to tell whether it's a master or not, I believe, since sometimes you can find a two-button key that's been programmed as a master.
  13. Looks like it is indeed going to be date of registration, is sanity perhaps prevailing at long last ?
  14. Sorry, I don't agree. Having HIDs that are properly aimed are IMHO *better* for road safety, i.e. because you can see better at night. There is no reason they should be dangerous to other road users. I had an OEM HID system on my previous car, but the self-levelling kept breaking. Which was more dangerous ? EDIT - the MoT doesn't even check that the self-levelling is working, my car passed the MoT with broken self-levelling. I also don't think they're illegal, I've heard this mentioned before but no-one can seem to prove it. There are laws about fitting HIDs to new cars in that they must be self-levelling, but there are all sorts of laws about new stuff on cars which current cars don't comply with, but it doesn't make them illegal. If HIDs were illegal they wouldn't pass the MoT.
  15. Pretty sure you should be changing those at the same time. I got those changed when my belt was done this week. Might as well, do you really want to have those same used items rubbing against your new belt for another 60K miles ?
