  1. Yeah, this is the sort of thing I mean. The more up-to-date wheel balancing machines will detect if the wheel is buckled etc and tell the operator.
  2. If I was you, I'd get a second opinion on the wheel balancing, try and find a garage that has some up-to-date wheel balancing machines. There have been stories on here in the past of members who were told by one garage that their wheels were balanced fine, but when they took them somewhere else they found they weren't, and balancing caused their problems. Jomo - I would have thought it would show up too, but after seeing how good machines like the ones that WIM use for balancing are, I'm highly dubious of some of the wheel balancing services that are on offer.
  3. There's a great guide on how to attach pictures here
  4. Hope you're not saying that you know someone whose cam belt has snapped ?
  5. Excellent work Stav, well done, there's a lot more in here than I was originally thinking of, so it's even better than I would have hoped ! :D
  6. Really sorry to hear that . Hope you manage to find something else before long, and that some good stuff happens for you soon.
  7. Well, even just something like that might help ? Maybe for Unichip and FCON Vpro the entry would have to be pretty short and just say it's very complex. But even for the Vpro perhaps people could be warned that there seem to be lots of issues to get it to even work at all (or is it just that TDi don't know how to fit it properly ?). Would be perhaps useful to know for some of these items whether anyone has got them working ok ? e.g. so at least someone knows if they're taking a big risk or not ! I'm only really asking out of personal/academic interest, although this question does seem to come up quite regularly from members who have more of a need for the info. Not trying to create unnecessary work for anyone though.
  8. It does sound like some sort of wireless interference problem. I had a similar problem on my old car when visiting a pet shop, which was near a radio mast (can't remember if it was a cellphone mast), sometimes the remote locking would work and sometimes it just refused to do so.
  9. Would it be worth starting a thread with some information on the various types of piggy-back ECU, possibly that could be a sticky ? It's something that's often asked about on here. I'm assuming there isn't an old thread like this already. I'm thinking of something like the exhaust sticky that we already have, e.g. TTE black box, HKS FCD/VPRO/etc, Greddy, Unichip, etc. Pros and cons of each (e.g. some can control fuel injectors and some can't ?), reliability (bad for TTE black box ?), rough cost, ease of config/mapping, suitability for supercharger/turbo, etc, etc.
  10. Would it be worth perhaps just investing in a dyno run so that you can see where you are at the moment in terms of your BHP ?
  11. Is it definitely the tyre that is mis-shaped and not the wheel itself that has a problem ?
  12. Sorry, maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure if I'm understanding the question correctly. Can't you call a dealer tomorrow to find out about getting hold of the proper parts ? Or you can try an online supplier like CheapToyotaParts
  13. This can happen on the IS200 if the drain pipes for the sunroof get blocked. Don't know if it's the same on the LS.
  14. Welcome. Not sure, but my impression is that most of the members who are very active on here are IS owners. Definitely should help by posting LS questions in the LS forum there, since there are of course some active LS owners too.
  15. Personally I would be leaning towards the fastest processor available, since as you say a lot of software can't make use of four cores, but if you've eliminated the Duo anyway ... Don't forget the hard drive, if you're going to be doing video editing that's going to be hit very hard (and will probably stop you being able to do anything else productive whilst the editing is going on), so make sure you get as fast a hard drive as possible.
  16. Are you sure you haven't got a sticky brake calliper which is warping your discs ? So after the skimming the problem was temporarily cured, but the calliper is still sticking and warping one of the discs again ?
