  1. I have a creak from my front suspension that I only notice when going over speed bumps. I'm sure it's not the brakes. I'm wondering if it's connected to the ARB, and I'm (hopefully !) getting my new C-One ARBs fitted today (together with new bushes and new drop links if the old ones won't come off !), so I'll see if that makes a difference.
  2. Yeah my pulleys are rusty too. Sounds like it's nothing to worry about.
  3. It may well come back. Removing those fuses resets the ECU and clears the light. But if there really is a fault, the engine check light will come back again. If it does, please get it checked out as soon as you can to make sure there isn't a real problem with your engine.
  4. Sorry, I don't agree, please just ignore the letter. They have *no* way of enforcing it. If you write back to them then you are implicitly acknowledging that you did something wrong etc, and strengthening their case.
  5. You might want to try something like this to convert your tapes via your computer. Then you won't have to worry about trying to find something with a tape deck (which I would imagine will be almost impossible).
  6. Exactly. The absolute worst is to make you pay for the price of two bays. As you say given it was Sunday it would even be hard to prove this was reasonable. There is absolutely nothing they can do except make empty threats, and if they do carry on doing so then I would report them to the police.
  7.  ^^^^^^^ Best thing to do is get a garage You mean to sleep in, once the partner reads those nice words about her ?
  8. Have a look at this thread for more info (and pics) on Stav's decat pipe.
  9. Just to emphasise, ignore their letters. They have no way of enforcing it, the debt collection nonsense is just an empty threat.
  10. Thing is, it's nothing to do with being "legal" really, in that this is (presumably) on private property so is dealt with by contract law, the normal stuff about roads and so forth does not apply in the slightest. The worst they can do is charge you for an extra bay if you parked over the line.
  11. Very nice ! I love my dials, think they really set the interior off nicely. It's also nice to have a nice mod which you can see from the inside of the car ! If a few people with later cars want to club together and get a set of the original clocks from a later car (e.g. from eBay/breakers, they don't even need to be a working set), then I'm sure it would be possible to design a set to fit them.
  12. There's a sticky posting about changing the timing belt on this forum, and one on changing the auxilliary belts in the workshop forum. For the latter, you can see a pic of the new belts in their packaging, so the reference numbers for those might be useful. Don't forget the online workshop manual too. Don't know if there are any kits, but I don't remember anyone mentioning it before, so they're probably just individual items.
  13. To be fair though, the Mk5 Escort was slated by pretty much everyone. The public don't always buy the "best" car.
  14. Glad that it worked. But how long are you going to leave it before starting again though ? If the battery hasn't been used for a while, it might not be in good condition and might not hold the charge that long. Wouldn't want you to give back the charger, then try and start it a while later and find the battery is dead again !
  15. As I understand it, the WIM settings are within the factory's range of possible setups. So whilst a garage might well use the (incorrect) factory settings if they're not told otherwise, if they're asked to use WIM settings then I can't see any reason why they'd refuse (other than a lack of understanding).
  16. Further to that, I think that this sort of thing covers your case : So all they can legally demand from you is something like the cost of an extra bay if you were parked theoretically taking up two bays.
  17. Pretty sure that is just their tactic to scare you into paying. Have a look at this website I'm no expert on this, but my understanding is that basically this stuff comes under private contract law. So they can only try and sue you for "reasonable" damages. If you were parked slightly over a line, and there weren't other cars about anyway, then it's not "reasonable" for you to have to pay anything. Even if you, say, forgot to get a ticket, they could only claim what was "reasonable" from you (e.g. a few quid), and not, say, £50 or £100. There's some useful advice on that link.
  18. Have you paid the ticket ? Or is it just a ticket demanding payment ? If the latter, then don't pay it ! As far as I know these are pretty much unenforceable. I'm sure there are websites all about this subject.
  19. You don't have to use Photobucket, there are loads of photo hosting sites. But Photobucket is the one used for the examples in that posting, yes.
  20. Hard to say without knowing what the exact fault is, but the light is a sign that something is probably wrong. OBDII is a standard for diagnostic equipment, yes. Basically all cars built after a certain date have a connector/interface that complies to this standard, so you can buy a reader, connect it up and read off the codes. You can get standalone readers for around £30, or even cheaper if you already have a laptop that you can use (you can get a special cable for the laptop, then download free software). A reader may well be cheaper than a trip to the garage !
  21. Welcome. There's a handy guide on how to post photos here
  22. You need to connect up an OBDII reader and get the codes off it. If you post the codes up, then folks here can try and help work out what it might mean. Could be almost anything. Most garages should be able to help you with it if you haven't got a reader. Although bear in mind they might charge you to help, and the readers are very cheap off eBay !
  23. Who ticketed you ? A private company ? A local authority ?
