  1. Why don't you just tell them to get a cable router ? Saves them confusing a "DSL router" with an "ADSL router". "DSL routers" as sold at places like PC world are normally labelled as "Cable/DSL routers", i.e. they can connect to both cable modems and ADSL modems. Try doing a search on the PC world website for "router". You'll see that most of the products are labelled as either "ADSL router" or just "router" or "cable router". There are very few labelled as "DSL router". I suspect that if your customers are going into PC World and asking for DSL routers, the staff there are asking them what it's for, and as soon as the say cable, they're directing them to the right products.
  2. I would think that if you say you're going to cancel your service and switch to Sky, because you're not happy with your box freezing/whatever, then they'll send someone round with a new box pretty sharpish !
  3. Well, you could use an ADSL router for cable I think, but it'd be a waste of money since you wouldn't use the in-built ADSL modem. What you need is a normal router which will work fine. You might find some routers advertised as Cable/DSL routers which means they can connect to cable modems *or* DSL modems (e.g. ADSL modems).
  4. No, not yet, sorry. Still waiting for a convenient opportunity to start taking the bumper off.
  5. Have a look at this definition of DSL
  6. Sorry but your terminology is all wrong. A DSL router connects to a DSL line (e.g. via a phone socket). The type of router that you're talking about is just an Ethernet router, i.e. a standard router, that's what cable needs to use.
  7. Sorry but I still don't think that's correct. Virgin cable uses cable modems. You can't plug a router straight into it normally (unlike where you have ADSL and and ADSL router that has a built-in ADSL modem). For cable you plug a router into your existing Virgin cable modem.
  8. I've accidentally hit reverse a few times recently, thank goodness for that warning beeper ! There's nothing I "hate" about the IS200, I love it. Sure, it's not perfect, but no car is.
  9. So was it a case of new turbo/new engine internals using a lot more oil than usual, and running out ?
  10. Sounds like a fault in your area, if it's affecting both your TV's box and the separate cable modem. That definitely shouldn't be happening.
  11. You can change the whole door card to get those. That's probably easier than just trying to change the speaker grille.
  12. I would advise telling your insurance company straight away about any points. With all due respect, if an insurance company finds out afterwards, saying "some policeman told me it would be ok not to tell you" might not carry a lot of weight with them. Tommy I don't think your son will be in big trouble. I think he should phone up the insurance company ASAP and tell them about the points. Then sort out yourselves what you're going to do about the accident, speak to the other guy involved and sort it out privately if you want. But you should probably then still tell your insurance company about the accident. I suspect it will work out ok.
  13. I'm really not sure what to suggest that you do. I believe that you are obliged to report the accident to your insurance company, whether you put the claim through them or not. The guy who he bumped into might have already told his insurance company (who will then contact your son's insurance company) anyway. Good luck.
  14. Sorry, but I don't think that's right, cable broadband is not DSL. DSL/ADSL are used over copper wires from phone exchanges. Cable uses a completely different technology. That doesn't sound right, I have no such problems (touch wood !) with my Virgin cable. I'd report that to Virgin and to get them to come and check it out. Might be that you need a new box, or perhaps there's a problem in your local area.
  15. I'd recommend that *all* IS's get WIM'd. Getting the geometry set properly will help the handling, as well as helping stop premature tyre wear issues.
  16. The police might not have exactly stated the rules of engagement, I don't know. But it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask if there was a challenge. It seems that the police said there was a challenge, but the independent 3rd party witnesses say that there wasn't, and they didn't actually know how these guys running on the trains with guns were, and certainly didn't think they were police.
  17. If you haven't done so already, take your car to WIM (Wheels in Motion) to get the geometry setup. IMHO that's where you should start. It will be £100 (approx) very well spent. The OEM geometry settings (camber/castor etc) are wrong on the IS200 and produce poor handling and premature tyre wear. I'd also suggest HIDs. A very inexpensive mod that you'll make a lot of use of, unless you only ever drive in the daylight. K&N filter is also great. Doesn't cost much at all and will produce some small benefits. ARBs will make an absolutely *massive* improvement to handling by making you go round corners a whole lot better - essentially that's letting you go faster, more safely, with the same power as you've already got (i.e. you can use more of the power while you're not going in a straight line).
  18. Remember this wasn't a normal operation though, Mat. In the Met's secret "Operation Kratos" they had rules about specifically *not* shouting a warning if they thought the suspect was a terrorist who might be about to blow himself up.
  19. I actually find the indicator noise very quiet, it's certainly a lot quieter than on my previous car (VW).
  20. Great to hear that SPC Horsham have helped improve the way your car goes Yemgi. But sad to hear of another Totally Disastrous Installation :tsktsk: Is there any legal path you can take ? e.g. SPC Horsham writing a report saying how the parts supplied and installed by TDI made your car worse, therefore you could ask them for your money back ?
  21. I dunno, once you add on VAT and delivery (most places would give you free delivery) they're not that cheap really, considering they're older model units too.
