  1. Because other peoples' experiences are relevant ? Was it wrong of me to ask him if his fuel gauge was working, given that others have had a lot of problems with this ? Someone asked earlier if his engine management light was still working (e.g. since Dave's one got removed by TDi), I don't think he's answered that at present, is that not a reasonable question too given other members' experiences ? I don't see why one person's experience should be seen in some sort of standalone bubble, as you seem to be suggesting. If we didn't bring in other relevant experiences into other discussions then we'd have very little to discuss here, wouldn't we ? If someone, should, heaven forbid - say they had a bad experience at WIM, then would it not be relevant if other members said what good experiences they'd had and question the poster to see exactly what had happened in case it was he that had misunderstood things ? You're surely not serious that other members' experiences at a garage are not relevant to those experienced by someone else ? I've already said that I'm happy that Fever is happy. *edited for spelling*
  2. Sorry, I don't know. You'll stand the best chance of getting an answer in the IS250/220 section here :winky:
  3. I agree with Stav, if you haven't signed to say you've accepted the work has been done ok, then they have to make sure they sort things out. What if the garage just delivered the car back to you and hadn't repaired the crash damage ? They couldn't just refuse to accept liability and have the insurance company close the case. The garage might have told the insurance company it was all done and dusted, but unless you've agreed with that then the insurance company should still be involved too.
  4. How likely is it that aftermarket HIDs will fail an MoT test for their beam pattern, in your opinion ? Interested to know what you think as an MoT tester.
  5. Check the details for that dealer in the list in the Gold forums. There should be a contact name there, and if you speak to that person then they will hopefully be easier to deal with, and know who to contact if they've got any problems. I had a look for that phone number but I can't see it, I'm sure I saw it somewhere (maybe on a post somewhere ?). Try PM'ing Steve if you get stuck to ask for advice.
  6. They make up and send out the cards in batches, so you might not have it yet if you joined fairly recently. I seem to remember that there's a phone number though where a Lexus dealer can phone and check if you really are a Gold member, I'll try and dig it out.
  7. As Stav said, I would have thought it's up to the garage to prove that the problem *wasn't* caused by the accident, since they don't have a note (presumably) signed by you to say they accepted the car with an already-knackered engine, so if they delivered a non-working engine back to you then they'll have to fix it !
  8. Thank you Stav, that was exactly the question I was raising. I didn't think TDi outsourced their dyno work, as has been said that wouldn't make sense. However, as Stav said, two LOC members personally have had cause to question the dyno information they were given by TDi. How am I "slating" TDi's dyno Mat ? I'm just presenting some real-life examples as quoted by other members of this forum. I'm not going by what someone down the pub heard from his brother's best mate's cousin's friend, I'm talking about posts that I've recently read on these forums from LOC members who have personally questioned the bhp figures that they were given by TDi. I also never said that TDi *did* make up/deliberately alter the dyno stuff for Fever's car. I was simply asking where he got it done and whether he personally saw the results or it was just that they did a dyno run and, say, someone verbally told him the figures ? Surely given the experiences that some members have had with TDi, these are totally reasonable questions to be asking ? Is it not a potential help to other members of LOC to be asking these questions, so that they can benefit ? If we all only commented on the work we'd done on our own cars then I think the club would be distinctly poorer as a result.
  9. For information, here is what the ducting looks like :
  10. I'm asking a perfectly good question. I never said there was anything wrong with TDi's dyno. But why do some other LOC members seem to have been told certain dyno figures by TDi and when they checked elsewhere they seem to have got much less bhp ? Weren't some of these other LOC members reasonably happy with certain aspects of their cars until they saw what they were really producing and what problems there were with them ? Is it not in the interest of LOC members to ask reasonable questions ? Sorry, I hadn't realised that reasonable questions weren't allowed. You made a few comments about the proposed 3S-GE conversion to be done by ToyotaGT. Have you had any work done by ToyotaGT ?
  11. Has anyone tried what Rob suggested, i.e. :
  12. Where did he say who dyno'd it ? Sorry, I must have missed that bit. ok, so now you've gone and edited your previous posting to add the word "therefore", and edited my quoted copy of your posting, which makes my posting make slightly less sense. Not sure why you felt it necessary to do that. You added the word "therefore", previously your post read : I still don't agree, though, that just because TDi did the work, that necessarily means that's where the dyno was done.
  13. Where did he say who dyno'd it ? Sorry, I must have missed that bit.
  14. Fever, who was it who did that dyno for 240 bhp, was it TDi ? I'm just asking again because of the bad experiences a lot of people seem to have had at TDi. I'm pleased if you're the exception to the "rule", but was it TDI who got that figure and did they actually give you a printout or just tell you what they'd measured verbally ? It seems that some members have been shocked when they've had their cars dyno'd somewhere else and seen what their cars were really producing. As I said, if the opposite is the case with you, then that's great.
  15. An IS200 is going to be heavier and have less power than your current motor, so you'll notice the difference. However you will probably also notice that the engine is nice and smooth, and it has lots of toys, a very comfortable interior, etc. I second the recommendation that a trip to WIM for a geo setup will be time and money extremely well-spent. Although it's not that quick off the mark at the traffic lights, once you're shifting down the motorway you should find that it's pretty good when it comes to putting your foot down to overtake.
  16. I did read it in context, and as I said, the law on this is a mess since technically it appears that *all* HIDs are illegal under UK law. It says that the UK cannot refuse to register vehicles wit EU Type Approval, but it doesn't say that once they're registered these vehicles cannot be declared illegal ! :winky: At the roadside, a traffic policeman could in theory look to see if you've got headlamp washers, but how does he tell if you've got self-levelling or if your beam pattern is correct ? Is he going to carry around a beam testing set of equipment with him ? Basically they do not seem to have any way of proving this at the roadside. The only way that I can see this being clamped down on is if they make aftermarket HIDs an MoT failure item. As I said, it's a mess.
  17. TRD (Toyota Racing Development) website is here For the IS200, look in the Altezza section here
  18. DHL won't be trying to pull a fast one, if they've sent you an invoice for this then they've had to pay the charges, so you'll have to pay the bill, sorry. Basically it's pot luck, sometimes you'll get stung for this, sometimes you won't, it depends on the item etc (e.g. whether customs spotted it as something that they can charge you for).
  19. So *all* HIDs are illegal then, even OEM ones ? You're just helping me make my point. :P :winky: The law is a mess on this, which is why it's not being enforced IMHO.
  20. I'm not sure about that, I thought that HID was the term given to high-intensity lamps that don't have a filament and are ignited by a very high voltage charge. You can also get normal filament bulbs that have a small amount of Xenon gas in them, to give a blue tinge, though those typically aren't particularly bright. I presume that Ormi was saying that just because someone has a slightly bluish headlamp it doesn't necessarily mean they are running HIDs, could just be regular bulbs with xenon in them.
  21. Yep, I've seen that before. But note how it's "in the Department's view", and they talk about the "legal rationale" i.e. it's not totally black and white as I said, otherwise they wouldn't need to make a bit long convoluted explanation about it :winky: It it was totally black and white it would be a much shorter statement saying it was illegal, period !
  22. It's not as black and white as that, otherwise it would be part of the MoT, and people would be being prosecuted by the police for fitting aftermarket HIDs (and banning the sale of such kits). Again, with respect, you are referring to the law for new cars, not aftermarket kits.
  23. Use the "IMG code" link and paste that right in, no need to add anything else since it includes the tags already.
  24. Prolex have the TRD short-shifter here, and a different, cheaper one here.
  25. Have a look at this diagram, that shows where the sunroof components are located. I presume that they're talking about one of those bits in the roof, though I don't know for sure.
