  1. Not sure if I'm understanding your question directly, but the orange wire in the bypass lead (on my one, at least) goes nowhere, just to a scotchlock, it's not connected to anything. Interesting to know there's a menu setting for this though, thanks. Sounds like even when I get it connected I will have to check the menu to see whether it's set to dim or not.
  2. I've got Wozza's walkthrough, which talks about splicing the orange lead into an appropriate source for the dimming. I was just wondering what wire was most convenient, and was initially a bit puzzled since I would have thought the OEM unit had a connection for this which would handily be nearby. Since my original posting I've been looking at the wiring diagrams and it does look like there are various green wires for this in the OEM illumination wiring. Has no-one wired in the dimming ? I want to do this since it'll really bug me if I everything else dims but my head unit doesn't !
  3. Thanks, yeah I've been talking with him, and he's already answered loads of my stooopid questions about installing it. However, he tells me that he didn't bother with the dimming, so I think his illumination is fixed. Edit - just beaten to the reply by the man himself !
  4. I was puzzled by the fact that I couldn't find anything about the lighting on the wiring diagram for the OEM stereo. I've found it now, on the illumination wiring diagram here. That appears to show a green wire going into pin 2 of the connector for the OEM stereo (for the 8-speaker version, i.e. Sport in my case) for the illumination (and similar green wires going into all the various other illuminated controls). It looks to me like I should be tapping into one of these green wires, can someone confirm please ?
  5. The orange wire on the bypass cable comes out of the head unit connectors and terminates in a scotchlock. It's not connected to anything, indicating that it needs tapping into something. This orange wire is labelled "Ill" on the Pioneer loom, so I presume it is for the head unit illumination.
  6. I'm planning on installing my new head unit soon. One of the things that I've seen that I need to do is to tap into a dimming illuminated source if I want the head unit to dim too. Any suggestions for this ? Doesn't the OEM head unit dim already (I can't remember, and mine is out now, but I presume it did), and if so surely it has a connection that already dims ? If I need to tap into something else, then the heated seat and TRC/Snow buttons are nearby, or is there something even more convenient ? The A/C controls ?
  7. How about the connector at the other end, i.e. at the theft deterrent ECU, is that ok too ?
  8. The IK20s are cheaper, and are higher-performance plugs though. Personally I'd go for those. Not a big job to change them in the future.
  9. See above, it connects to the theft deterrent ECU too, which is part of this circuit.
  10. Have you pulled out the IH3 connector to see if it's corroded at all ?
  11. That's why I think wiggling that connector *might* be a red herring, i.e. it is part of the circuit but perhaps it's nothing to do with the problem, i.e. it's just another way to turn the lights off. Not sure though.
  12. SK20 are normally a bit more expensive than IK20, because they last twice as long. IK20 is the high-performance Denso plug, SK20 is the standard OEM Denso plug.
  13. You'll need to sign up to be a Gold member, if you haven't done so already, to be order to sell stuff :winky: Although you might need to check with the mods/admins in case you get into the area of trading, as opposed to just selling the odd item here and there.
  14. Yep, inside the car, under the dash on the driver's side. The connector has a cover over it and is pointing vertically downwards, roughly where your right foot will be. Edit - Dang, just beaten to it by Aido
  15. I've already got an LED boot light, just a single inverted LED type. But it's not bright enough. What do others have ? Do those tower-type multi-LEDs one fit ok ?
  16. Go here and scroll down to find a module that will flash standard LED brake lights.
  17. Codes for the wire colours (e.g. L-Y) are given on the diagram. The meaning of these codes are here (scroll down to the same page). That document will also tell you lots more about how to read the wiring diagrams.
  18. My guess is that the basis of it is real, with the kids being able to move their eyebrows around. You can sometimes see other muscles on their face moving at the same time. But then I'm pretty sure some computer editing will have been used, particularly on the faster bits to keep it in time with the music etc. Their adverts get people talking about it, job done, even if it doesn't make you immediately rush out and buy a bar of chocolate.
  19. The pram has wheels, right ? Just tow it behind !
  20. Which one ? Did you see the last diagram that I posted, the one with the wiring for the automatic light control ? It is showing that there are three wires relevant for the automatic light control that go into that grey connector (IH3). There is a blue wire with yellow stripe(L-Y), a blue wire with an orange stripe (L-O) and a white wire with a red stripe (W-R). That IH3 connector is between the theft deterrent ECU and the theft siren. When you say that you think the problem is there, is this just a red herring though, e.g. by wiggling the wires you are making one of them come loose and turn off the lights ? Not sure if this is a good indication that this is the actual cause of the fault rather than just a side effect.
  21. The main thing is what *you* think looks good though. If you like the silver, then keep it !
  22. ok, don't know what year your car is, but here is the wiring diagram for the automatic light control for models up to mid-2001. Have a look towards the bottom middle of the diagram. You'll see connector IH3 mentioned there, with connections between the Theft Deterrent ECU and the Theft Warning Siren.
  23. ok I am pretty sure that connector is called IH3. Still trying to find exactly what goes into it. Edit - see this diagram
  24. How many wires does that grey connector have going into it ?
