  1. Maybe ask if they can take a picture of the flywheel and text it to you or email it to you ?
  2. ok, I see, makes sense that if the clutch has been going for a while then it could have damaged the flywheel. But wouldn't that have been noticeable ? I guess it would be useful (for peace of mind ?) if they can show you the damage, Dan.
  3. Van or truck does sound likely, since as others have said the damage looks fairly high up, too high for a regular car at least.
  4. Think they're only good for a certain milage mate? Worries me as I guess my autobox is going to go at some point down the road and that's a fortune in comparison I think ok, but surely a flywheel normally lasts a lot longer than a clutch. Or am I wrong ?
  5. The OEM flywheel does look like a fairly expensive part, but how did it fail ? I'm not very mechanical but it sounds somewhat unusual for a flywheel to fail.
  6. Might be worth checking Drury Lane's prices if you plan on going there, think they charged some members an awful lot for a geo setup.
  7. Just something I thought of, one reason why it's not that straightforward is that the castor angle is something that needs adjusting in the geo setup, and the castor isn't directly adjustable on the IS200, so a lot of garages will scratch their heads and say it can't be done. But basically it can be indirectly adjusted by changing something else. Tony and the WIM boys know all about this of course.
  8. If it hasn't been WIM'd then getting the geometry done there will still improve the handling. You will probably be suprised at the difference, I know I was. WIM are a fair way away from you, in Chesham in Buckinghamshire. But members have travelled further for the WIM experience than from Newcastle ! :D Another member might be able to recommend somewhere near you that managed to cope with using WIM's settings to do a geo setup. You need somewhere that's got competent people as well as the right sort of equipment.
  9. LOC meets aren't about who's got the most mods etc, they're about (it seems to me, anyway) LOC members meeting up to chat and have fun. No-one will mind if your motor is as standard as they come or modded to the limits, you'll still be just as welcome either way. Before my first meet I was also a bit concerned that my car was pretty standard, but once I got there I found that it didn't matter a bit. Just beware though, once you've gone to a meet and start seeing other members' mods you'll soon come up with a wish-list of things you want to do to yours !
  10. Thanks, I was beginning to wonder if my TRC works because I've felt the back end go before any TRC cut in. But I'll just assume it works, and carry on driving carefully !
  11. Indeed, it annoys me when on the telly people start moaning about how in Russia or Scandinavia they can cope with the snow fine. Yes, of course they can, because they have snow for a lot of the year and hence it's worth spending money on being properly prepared for it. Is it worth us all buying snow tyres, the councils spending loads on more snowploughs etc (down in the south) ? No, of course it isn't.
  12. Hmm, I suspected they weren't adjustable. Mine aim a fair bit lower than those in Wozza's pic.
  13. Never? Doesn't sound like you're trying hard enough :P Yeah I was wondering the same . I did feel the back end slide out once on a greasy roundabout, but the TRC didn't kick in. Is it more likely to do so in a straight line ? *puts fingers in ears* la, la, la !
  14. Cold weather can kill a battery that is failing. Was the engine turning over ok and not firing, or was the battery dead ?
  15. If you're pulling away and going up hills (or whatever) in snow, don't you drive more slowly/gently ?
  16. In snow you should be driving more gently anyway, I don't understand why you'd just put your foot down harder so as to accelerate the same as if you were in the dry. I think snow mode is pretty useful personally, blunts the throttle response and thereby helps when things are slippery.
  17. Yep, don't worry, I bought axle stands and a trolley jack especially for the job. Still haven't put them to use though.
  18. Has anyone tried adjusting the fan-type jets ? Mine seem to aim a bit lower than would be ideal, but I'm not sure if they're adjustable like the more traditional type.
  19. No idea. Try phoning round Lexus/Toyota dealers and motor factors, and see if you get lucky and find one in stock. Toyota/Lexus can normally get you one overnight for an additional cost to normal.
  20. Hmm, that Duraglit stuff sounds good. Will have to look out for that.
  21. I could be wrong but I would have thought that the only real reason to turn off the traction control in this weather is if it was making things worse by its operation, e.g. suddenly cutting in and actually causing you more problems. I've never felt the TRC actually in operation on my car, so can't really comment further, and I'm not intending to go out in my car until the weather gets a bit better ! The Snow button is very handy in this weather though, in my opinion. And yes, I imagine the ABS is pretty useless in snow.
