  2. Thanks Ian. Just wondered if it was you or the dealer that emailed Lexus? Once becoming aware of this vulnerability many owners will naturally be concerned even though the UX is at much less risk than the RX. While I understand Lexus would want to keep a lid on the story, costs and workload some better communication from them would help. But it's perhaps one of those situations where ignorance is bliss for owners!!

Hi Ian, That's interesting because I've also got a UX built in 2023 and I've just been told that extra security had been added to UX cars built in 2023 to protect against thefts that took advantage of vulnerabilities in the Toyota/Lexus Canbus system. (NB this is different to the more common keyless vulnerability.) Therefore, the vehicle tracker that some Lexus dealers have been fitting free of charge isn't available for my 2023 UX.   5. Fortunately I no longer do a high mileage so, although I can't remember the mileage covered by my three year plan, I'm hoping not to suffer that pain!
  6. I rang Lexus yesterday and the text does refer to a separate recall from that for the camera. Apparently it's a software issue which takes about an hour to fix. Mine will be done during the same visit that's booked for the camera work. I don't know what safety issue the software recall is to fix.
  7. I got the camera recall letter a couple of weeks ago and have the car booked in for that. But yesterday had a text from Lexus saying that there's a safety recall and asking me to phone. As I'm busy all today I just wondered if anyone knows if there's another recall in addition to the camera issue? Unfortunately the Lexus UK recall checker website isn't very explicit as for my car it just reports: And advises phoning a dealer.
  8. When my 2024 UX250h was in for an annual service last week, I asked for the map to be updated. Sadly the map wasn't updated and it still shows the message: "Problem with map update. Please contact your dealer."   9. I hardly ever use voice recognition in the car or elsewhere. But I did discover in my UX250h that it responded to "BBC 4" rather than "Radio 4".
  10. With any car sold in reasonable numbers all you need is something that'll make your car a more difficult target than other similar cars. I think a steering wheel lock fits the bill as it's a cheap, visible and effective deterrent. I've also got front and rear dashcams which could act as a deterrent because a Canbus attack might cause the parking mode to start recording.
  11. Might get away with it in an MoT but I wonder what position insurance companies would take if a pedestrian were injured having not heard an "acoustic vehicle alert system" that was found to have been deliberately muffled.
  12. Thanks all. I've done a little research and found it's called "acoustic vehicle alert system" or "vehicle proximity notification system". I agree a V8 rumble would be a much better noise! It's tempting to muffle it with gaffer tape but as you guys have said it is a legal requirement for electric vehicles in the UK and various other countries and shouldn't, therefore, be disabled.   13. Driving slowly with only the electric motor running my 2023 UX250h makes a kinda dry rubbing sound. Inside the car with windows closed it's hardly noticeable but friends standing outside have commented on the noise. I'm not particularly concerned and was intending leaving it until it's first service in July but wondered if others have noticed a similar noise? Is it perhaps an intentional noise to warn pedestrians?

  16. Hi all, I've got a 2023 UX Takumi, with the latest large screen and multimedia system. When I try the map update option I get the message "Problem with map update. Please contact your dealer." The map is an older version than a friend's got in his UX. Mine is version 12-23-05|2022-09-5 his is 12-23-45|2023-03-5 Min is 2023 - 2024 Ver.1, didn't take a photo of this screen in my friend's. I have tried updating whilst ensuring the car is connected to our home WiFi. Does anyone know if it's something I'm doing wrong, eg do I have to update the car software or is it something I really need the dealer to sort out? Many thanks, Roger

  19. I think most new cars are delivered with tyres pumped to a higher than normal pressure. Possibly to minimise flat spots on tyres if the car is stored for long periods. However, tyre pressures should be set correctly as part of pre-delivery inspection.
  20. Have got a StopLock Pro Elite steering wheel lock which, like the Disclock, provides a visible deterrent. The main problem is remembering to fit it. The DiscLock might be a little clumsy but you need to ensure it fits over the lump in the centre of the UX's steering wheel. Alternatively maybe plates can be fitted under the wheel arches or aftermarket Canbus immobilisers are available for c£500 eg Ghost and Starline.
  21. The visibility of a steering wheel lock is perhaps it's biggest advantage.
  22. Good question. It'd be good to know. I've bought a StopLock Pro Elite steering wheel lock which is a real, heavy weight deterrent but it is a faff to fit.
  23. Before getting my 2023 UX I had a test drive in the earlier model UX. My impression was that the newer Bridgestone runflat tyres give a better ride and are quieter. But that could of course be also partly due to the suspension tweaks introduced in the facelift. Might be worth seeing if you can get a test drive in a 2023 UX. I'm pleasantly surprised by the ride and noise levels in my UX and that's after having had a Merc with air suspension and I do suffer with some back problems and I had a hip replaced a couple of years ago.
