  1. You lads are the best!!! Im getting to a point where I want to get a car just to be in the gang!!! How long have I got to find one before you kick me out of your gang? 😂
  2. Apparently the last owner of just 10 months was an old fella who couldn’t get in and out very easily so moved it on. He bought it for £6k. There were a lot of red flags. Creamy deposit inside oil filler cap and dodgy front grille that was hanging on by a thread. Bad sun scorch in the back. Although tyres were Dunlop, they were all worn to different degrees. No two the same. The worst thing was no credible service history at all. Hasn’t been seen by Lexus ever as far as I could see. There wasn’t any service book available. Inside it felt really tired and grubby. Possibly an ex smokers car. On the flip side, it’s well priced for an old car and the dealer seemed like an honest enough bloke. I’m sure it’ll sell as it looks good at first glance…… just fussy beggars like me who it doesn’t suit.
  3. Thanks buddy. Great advice as usual.
  4. I love your eye for detail Bob. Just the sort of info I needed. As for black, you’ve made me feel a million times better as the ‘clean’ thing was a biggee.
  5. Ok Boys. Black one has gone on autotrader and it’s just 20 miles from me so at last I can go and view one!!! 1 previous owner and he looks to have had it for 20 odd years. MOT history is superb. Havent seen the service log yet but from what I’ve read so far, I’d imagine it’ll be good. 102k miles for £5000. Black wasn’t on my list but the car looks pretty good. Thoughts?
  6. Taxi for Boomer!!!!
  7. Picking up on a comment about the roof panel being aluminium……. Are the rear pillars either side of the rear windscreen also aluminium. Looking at an SC that has a very small amount of bubbling so hopefully just as insignificant if that too is aluminium.
  8. There’s a couple of very expensive ones around just now.
  9. Just not as much money as the southerners obviously!!! That said, I’d anyone’ after a whippet, flat cap and black pudding, we’re the folks to consult.
  10. I’ll have another look…… wish some would come on the market nearer me!!!
  11. Every day is a school day. Brilliant explanation. Thank you
  12. Mossy…. Pardon my ignorance. ‘aluminium is corrosion not rust’ whats the difference then? and would I be able to repair it?
  13. Mossy…… I’m sorry for using a few up on you. I hadn’t realised and at £3.25 each they’re not cheap. Thank you. If I can tap into you chaps knowledge again…… KH seller has sent me what I believe is a very honest video and photos. The most significant thing seems to be the two rear corners of the roof. what’s your thoughts?
  14. Lads. The search you do on registrations…… Is that something you pay for or is it a free app?
  15. Very sound advice Boomer and you’re spot on…….. I’ll know when it’s right and I’ll happily stump up a fair price for an honest car and owner.
  16. I honestly wouldn’t have minded the blemishes if I’d been paying £7k and the dealer had been honest. I walked away because if they can’t be honest about the things that are clearly visible, what could lay underneath. I know I’m buying an old car, it’s not going to be perfect but I’m not happy being deceived. Anyway, I will keep searching and see what comes up.
  17. Liverpool Guy admitted a number of panels where different shades and said that it had had some accident repair done. ‘Just panel damage’. He just sounded sketchy on a lot of things. Enough to make me feel uncomfortable with how genuine it is. So I went to look at the two in Bradford…… Blue and silver £12k ones. Took me less than a minute to walk away from both. Id asked on the phone about visible marks and the lad had told me about three very small chips. The reality was more like two or three on every panel……. and most had been badly touched up. Absolutely no way would I be forking out £12k for either of them!!!!
  18. I’ve spoken to the owner of the liverpool one and it’s not for me……… Too many red flags. What about KH51 on AT?
  19. Or what about KH51 or MM03 on AT?
  20. As that one’s in liverpool I could pop and have a look. Just 15 miles away.
  21. I’m beginning to think my strategy is wrong. I’m going to look at lower price ones maybe under £7500. I’ve looked at a few on AT and there doesn’t appear to be much difference between some of the sun £7500 and those I’ve been looking at. I like the thoughts that you folks have had of buying one at a price where I build in some spare money to get it up to a standard I’m happy with. As long as it’s genuine and has had as many of the key repairs done as is realistic at the price, I think that may be a better option for me.
  22. Based on those calculations I reckon I could buy one with 250k miles on and it would see me out!!!! 😂
  23. Have read that undersealing older cars can sometimes seal in the damp/rot etc. Are you lads keen advocates of getting that done anyway?
  24. Superb help and advice from the three of you. Ill let you know how I get on tomorrow. Thanks again gents.
  25. Interesting views regarding the champagne one and very valid. Your honest and balanced views are appreciated. I certainly don’t want to step on anyones toes if it’s something you may want to buy yourself. If I end up viewing it, I promise to let you know and will back off if you’re seriously interested. That’s only fair. As I’m sat here today, I’m more likely to try to use the champagne one as leverage on one of the two local ones anyway…….. especially if that boot leak isn’t thought to be a major problem.
