Hi mate welcome to LOC....must say really nice lookng car and also the colour is lovely aswell..not a great colour ( red ) fan but that is really nice. :)

    Thanks Daz, appreciate it.

No probs Chris :D ...i really like the new shape IS....now just need to save a few more pennys and get a good price for mine... :D

Be good to see your car at some meets.

Deffo mate, will be attending meets.

  2. How do Tango,

good question really. We have started our own business about 7 months ago, and wanted a company car that would give the right impression. I have always had Merc's or BM's, but sold my SLK and CLK quite recently. Went into Merc's dealership and asked about the new C Class, but felt like they had turned their noses up at us when we walked in. lol...

Purely by accident we found the IS, and the offers given for use as a company car were really good. The diesel is purely monetary and mileage etc. Test drove the 250 over a long weekend and loved the engine/performance but thought about practicality's and the return for distances driven.

Going to keep the 220D for 3 years and if all goes well and we both take to them, then we will buy 2, one for each other. Me petrol obviously and the missus diesel .. lmao like that is going to happen....

Mine looks like it's going to be a 'keeper', same as my IS200  ...If I get another ;) I'll have to build a bigger garage.

My previous bank manager is now an independent Financial Advisor, and he bought two second gen IS's after seeing mine....he picked the 220D based on economy but his business partner went for the petrol....I'll have to ask him what the difference is on running costs and depreciation :whistling:

HEHEHE, now that would be very interesting to hear, especially the running costs. May put my mind at rest too.

As for a larger garage, i had mine all ready to store my other pride and joy. Ferrari 348, oldun, but that dream ended in dust, got loads of books on it though, and had some brilliant test drives. Garage is now full of furniture and empty beer bottles.

    Cest La Vie ?

  3. Congratulations- you picked the best colour.

Pleased you like it....why did you pick the diesel engine??

  4. Sounds like someones a VERY happy chap :D look forward to seeing some pic's :D

Just need a window of opportunity, so that the missus thinks i have done all my chores, before legging it outside to take some pics.

I honestly did not think this car would be this good. Good yes but brilliant !!! Dealership also told me to bring the car to them every sunday and they valet clean it throughout for free !!!! Mercedes taking note? lol

  5. Thanks for the replies, thats cleared up th weight issue (I think Lexus need s to change their website as it does not state the word max for kerb weight)

The interior is deffo nicer than the BMW & i do spend alot of the time on the motorway so it could be good.

The fuel consumption bothers me as my current E90 running a tuning box returns 51 mpg constantly, I drive it hard as well.

I really cannot beleive that a Lexus gearbox can be so much of a mess up ! If the car is so slow in the first 2 gears& 6th cannot be pulled from 60 mph then why have they not changed the ratios to sort the problem out.

Do you know if any revisions are due to help drop the emmissions, or will a hybrid petrol be soon available?

I will go for a test drive, but from what i am reading about the fuel consumption & general drive train problems I will not get my hopes up.

There are alot of the new 3 series about , that is true but maybe its because it is just a great drive ! ( vastly under specced , overpriced)

    thanks

The problem with spending a lot of time on a motorway in the Lexus, is you are forever changing up & down the gears because of the bad gearing. Also 42mpg is very optimistic!

What a brilliant write up !!! Balanced and very informative.

  6. Im 44 - gulp and in the military. Which means my knees are knackered and i drive like a 65 !!!

My first Lexus, coming from predominately Merecedes CLK and just sold my lovely SLK :msn-cry: Even had a stint in Ferrari's.

Mid life crisis springs to mind, well so my kids keep telling me. They reckon the only reason why i bought the Lexus was so i could watch afternoon tv on the dvd player.....

  7. Interesting post !

I have been into Mercedes for years, driving CLK's to the new SLK, all of them meaning something to me at that time. Now that i am 44 years old and have my own company as well as being in the armed forces, i really wanted something that represented quality, reliability and class, without going over the top. Hence me asking Mercedes about the new C Class and then looking at Lexus. More than happy to say that I ended up getting a Lexus because it means quality, reliability and class. I honestly dont think it has got to do with age at all. It just represents where you are in life and what you value most. Me well its Liverpool winning the Prem League and Eruo Cup again and a mini....

Now is that going to happen ? B)

would a song help, ferry cross the mersey.......

  8. The main reason behind us choosing Lexus over a Merc, was in the main down the sales person in the showroom and the genuine warm welcome we recieved as we walked in, wearing jeans and trainers :crying: A big Merc no no.

I had the same response from Mercedes when I went in on Saturday. They saw my jeans and trainers and wrinkled their nose. Oh well, I took my 30k+ to Lexus instead. Oh well, Lexus are better made anyway. :)

LMAO, its a real shame though, because having owned 3 from new ranging from CLK to the new SLK, I love them !!!! They let you walk into the showroom in jeans and trainers when its time to get the thing serviced

But again you cant thank the Lexus guys enough, we were also given a bottle of champagne in a lexus wooden box (signifying a coffin? ) and have leant us a car for this coming weekend, because we got the delivery date wrong. Now you cant go wrong with that now can you ?

You see it's attention to detail and service like that that made me choose Lexus in the first place. I hear they are on target to get the number one spot in the 2008 JD Power survey too.

You could be right and as far as i am concerend, often having many new cars, this is by far the best treatment i have received yet...

  10. I must be the only one out on his own.

Meza Red, everytime. All my cars have been red of some description and after seeing one in the car park. Yup red for me :)

Also well done mate on taking the plunge, and not opting for the standard BMW or Merc choice. I am an avid Merc fan and having driven both BMW and Merc, Ferrari too but lets not go there, i was completely taken by the quality of the Lexus, the drive and just how it felt all round.

Bound sure to keep you happy for many a mile :whistling:

Red i tell you, red !!!
