Had one of these for a year, economy on diesel was fine, but seemed to drink oil for living (which my manager said was typical of VAG diesel engines). Seats harder than Ian Paisley on a good day, and hated the electronic handbrake. But great for shoving stuff in the back and off to the tip. -

Used to be a Cavalier man for many years and then when the tried a Vectra, that was the end of my love affair with Vauxhall. -
Maybe we need to write that rule. I like the idea of the Roger Moore eyebrow. The chap in his LS this morning passed me on the inside (coming up to a roundabout) gave a discreet wave, however as he was by then slightly ahead of me, my only option would have been to open the sun roof and launch a 'thumbs up' blimp. That would have not been very understated. I remember years ago the effusive nature of MG owners (of which a girlfriend as one) passing one another, but that maybe more down to the fact that they were celebrating not parked up in some layby shrouded in steam trying to work which bit of the car had not been fitted by some bloke in Longbridge 3 years previous.

Not sure if this is someone on the forum, but had a Bronze LS400 tail me along the A419 into Cirencester, this morning on way to work Reg R299 CHE looked all nicely polished, put my dusty old heap to shame, and had the traffic been as stationary as it usually is by the college, would have popped back for a chat. Still nice to have such a nice sight in the rear view instead of the usual euro-box

Condensation

I found a drinks bottle under one of front seats (left by kids) with lid not quite tight was a problem recently. Also it seems the carpets can hold enough moisture without feeling damp, but enough to steam up the windwscreen. I found helped to leave moonroof tilted (only on really dry days) helped dry out the car, and changing filter made a difference in terms of time to de-mist. -
I found a dual USB port device in cigarette lighter was chucking out so much cr*p on FM that it was a nonsense. Just means I cannot charge phone and MP3 player at same time. The problem is that a lot of cheap non-EU stuff is not designed with radio emmissions control, so can splat out rubbish all ove the place. I still remember the days when CB radio would break in on the home stereo, same thing happening today with these USB devices. 10-4 Rubber Ducky!!!!

All the best things come in small packages, the LS looks small against the modern Mini!!!, and is only a little bigger than a Smart () Every now and again I let my foot take me to 190kph, just to make sure my 17 year old motor still has it in her, and on a decent road surface all you hear is the sound of my wife saying 'Slow down'.

Looks like the dogs 'wobbly bits' Infotainment in a vintage LS, nice (as Louis Balfour from the Fast Show would say) -
Agree with use of Pagid, just had them fitted to mine, and makes braking a lot more predictable than the rather naff blueprints. For price Pagid are good for most things, not so sure I would want to be using them on a track day though (if ever I coudl find the time to go on a track day - just to see what the old beast could do).

Paul, sounds like your a real gent helping out there. Roger, as the the 'what the ...' comment on the boom box, there is nothing like real bass, but I reckon the standard bass unit in any LS is pretty good, maybe not top notch, but good enough so that when I sit in the local Tesco car park waiting to pick up my son, the drum & bass coming from my car makes people turn their head to see what an old g*t like me is up to.

Too right on darned speed bumps, I have negotiate some on the way to work, anything above 15mph is jarring, yet most people seem to carry on at 30mph, so I assume they have no idea of the damage being done to their shocks and running gear. I recall from my time of working in Holland that the Dutch just remove all road markings where they want drivers to slow down, as without white lines etc, then you tend to drop your speed down, or maybe the Dutch are a little more civil when it comes to respecting that it's not only cars that use the road. As a part time cyclist, i would say the majority of speed humps make matters worse, as drivers and cyclists work out the best way to avoid them. Still I once had a county highways dept as a client many years ago, and what was quite clear to me was that none of them knew what road users really needed to make sure driving was safe. The other thing about humps is that they increase pollution as you have to rev up after slowing down, so just a slower death by fumes.

Not my cup of tea, that grill looks too much like a basking shark that swallowed a shopping trolley. -
Job done, started climbing at 4:30, got to top at 5:50. wind was around 40+mph a fair bit of ice and snow near summit, brilliant sunrise. Photo of my son taking photos for college project wrapped up like an Eskimo. My camera does not do the scene any justice. Bought new head torches for trip, well worth doing, and about 10 other people were up there to see it. I managed to keep up with my son on the climb up, but my knees ached all day Sunday, but determined not to let getting close to 60 get in the way of some darned fine views to be had around the UK.

If my 400 gave up tonight (only 174K) I would be looking at this, seems like a bargain. Only thing I would want to know is when running gear replacements were, as from my experience this sort of mileage is when they are likely to need sorting if still on original parts. But I trust my 400 is going to be working okay for a while especially as I am due to be driving to Brecon for 4am Saturday morning to climb to the top of Pen Y Fan to see the sunrise (some college project my son is doing).
