  1. But buying a house with a bigger parking space, would have meant winning the lottery, so money would not be a problem, and I might even buy a Maserati Quattroporte 🤑
  2. Just found this on Gumtree - Silver 460, not quite ready to leap to a 460, but if I was I would be on M6 right now Gumtree link or ebay link Also some nice looking Jags, but thats for another day (and another house with a bigger parking lot!!!)
  3. I had same issue with my Mk3, which slowly got worse. I had a clean throttle It was the ECU, but never got around to fixing when I gave my car away to a mate for spares on his Mk3 But once the problem started occuring, I did find that initally putting the AC on kept the problem at bay, but after about a year, even this trick was not helping. I also resorted to Malcs trick when coming off a motorway, but I found it a little stressful on busier junctions. My MK4 never had the problem, and I think that is coz the capacitor problems had been drained out of the supply chain by the time Mk4 came along. Though mine is a very late Mk4, so not sure if earlier Mk4s ever suffered.
  4. Not my choice of interior colour, but does look like new. Looks like nearside rear seat has been sat in more than the drivers, but that might just be the light Is it worth 20K, not so sure, but rather spend on this than 20K on equiv Bemear or Merc. I prefer the boot of the LS, and an LS is quieter than a GS, but not a lot in it from my experience
  5. I loved his conclusions at the end, and having watched his other videos, always informative. And he knows owning a car for 15 years in something worth aiming for (though that in itself means you have to be a Jap car owner)
  6. I wonder what the ML syste msound like when new, I assume car systems degrade espercially due to the extremes of heat and cold the whole car suffers. I have just replaced the tweeters in my home audio system, after the ferro-fluid in them was causing the sound to degrade and crack up. So if a home stereo goes a bit AWOL after 15 years then a car stereo must benefit from a total replace at some point. Mind you looking at the prices for replacing with genuine ML spares is a little eye watering. I think I'll not be poking around with the speakers in my 400, but totally aware sound is nothing like being on the sofa listening to speakers that cost £1000 15 years ago.
  7. I had exactly this experience about 8 years ago, with RAC going (battery okay), but it was not. As I recall when I got a local motor factor to look, they could see one of the cells knackered so that it would look like it was holding right volts, but voltage dropped like a stone under load of the LS starter motor. I actually had been taking out battery to charge up (on the basis of the RAC man saying all tickety-boo) and after two mornings of this shenanigans just got a new battery.
  8. Crikey, I have had to replace the brake lights on mine twice in nine years, maybe the W (about 1/2 mile of 10-15%) burns them out as that is a lot of braking. I wonder if the drives on Holland (or Norfolk) never have to repalce their brake lights??
  9. Dan, I see what you mean, I maybe need to observe exactly what happens when mine goes illegitimate alarm
  10. Nice one, I assume your lights just flash and silence prevails. My random alarm is really random, sometimes a long motorway drive is the trigger for it to go off 20 seconds after locking, sometimes it seem the be using the moonroof, and I wonder if when I close the roof, some sensor is not quite engaged (but that seems like a silly suggestion). I might have a look at doing the same thing, as notice as the car gets older the alarm does seem more random
  11. I think it alludes to Only Fools and Horses, where the first brush Trigger bought was the original, even though it had the handle changed as well as the broom many a time, so a fully replaced original
  12. So true. I have just realised I have been driving LS for near 14 years, that's one third of my driving life, and like the body of my car, my own body has seen better days, and as far as I know the missus has no plans to scrap me just yet!!
  13. Looks so clean, looks like it was jet washed underneath and then left to stand for a while to get that surface rust. Mine at 217,000 has rust in which is now being 'pointed out' on MOT, but mechanic said looks like a while before anything becomes a MOT fail. Mostly mine covered in road crud underneath.
  14. I never saw the point of a car as an investment. I recall being a passenger in an E-type on a M4 trip and the owner had bought it as a car to enjoy, rather than as an investment. A mate of mine has just bought the MG originally owned back in 1996, which he had already restored. Since then it has been restored twice and so the time and money in restoring must surely be greater than any investment value. Same with a house, not an investment, its a roof over my heads, and the LS is wheels under my backside to enjoy.
  15. Up and running, or so it seems
  16. Actually looks like in last hour the service has stopped, so hopefully wil lbe up and running soon
  17. Was working at 10:36, so if you now reply lets see if I get a notice
  18. Interestingly the Fit Guide on INNO web site says no K Hooks for my LS. Shame Not looking for a roof rack right now, but at least this seems like one to keep on the radar for future Lexus adventures
  19. Could not agree more. Yesterday had to do a 200 mile round trip, put £100 of expensive liquid in the tank, drove at around 50 to 55mph, no hurry, and got around 41mpg on the main highway. For sure dropped off on the side roads. So still cheaper than using the train, nicer than using the train, and at that speed the LS400 is quieter than the complaints desk at Waitrose. ( was a passenger in an Audi TT and a Merc SL500 and CL 500 recently - nowhere near as enjoyable as a LS400 )
  20. Could be straight forward, might not be Read this to get a (possible) balanced view - LED Retrofit Because the LEDs have a rapid ramp time (to overcome forward voltage in the LED), this can stress ballasts, which are expecting to see a soft start filament. Also I have heard that the LED appears to work, but then the revelent ECU reports problems as it sees line voltages as not expected. (just seen other posts about MOT fail - totally forgot about that)
  21. I have found Timpsons do a fair job. BUT make sure you goto a Timpsons at Supermarket, they tend t o have their cutters newer meaning the key will fit (I got this from a mate who used to work at Timpsons -as wel las the chap running the Timpsons in Stroud. Been using my replacement keys now for 5 years, no problem.
  22. Although I wonder if they bought it and saw the price of petrol getting scary, and are also seeing if they can make a few quid. A long way to drive from Yorkshire to give it the once over, but based on my 8 years of owning a Mk4, I would buy another one in a heartbeat (but would be poking for rust in rear arches, and checking the bushes on everything as 100Km miles - and age - is when they are needing some attention.
  23. Not that I have the money, (and the parking spaces), I would have a ES300h (for long hauls up to the Lake District) and an LC500 convertible (for days like today, pottering about the Brecons), and keep my LS for old times sake. Look forward to seeing some pics, the Lexus web site does not (IMHO) do the actual colours justice
  24. Might be near the sea, but no salt on the roads, and from my experience of Dubai it only rains like mad about once every 20 years or so.
