  2. Wow. What issues have you had? The only issue I've had is a failed passenger mirror which was replaced in 1 day (seems like a common issue). Other than that so far it has been reliable. I kind of knew though when moving to BMW I would be giving up the bullet-proof reliability of Lexus.
  3. I switched from an 08 IS-F to a BMW M340i about a year ago. The IS-F was obviously a better sports car (sharper and better handling), but for daily driving the M340i is brilliant, almost as quick, much more comfortable and the tech in BMWs is miles ahead of Lexus. The BMW B58 engine is so impressive, 0-60 in 4 secs or less and can return 40mpg on the motorway!
  4. Sold mine for around 15K towards the end of last year, same year, 90K miles, but I think yours is in better condition. There is a very limited market for these cars so you have to be lucky as well!
  5. Yes some of the parts cost a lot of money, and here in London labour rate is £150/h which adds up quickly. That list of repairs is over 8 years, so its not too bad. The water pump is a known design failure and is replaced almost in every IS. The sat nav screen failing is also extremely common. Blown speaker, well I sometimes like my music loud :-). The only real issue I've had is the brake caliper leak which caused an MOT failure. But these kind of failures are now expected for what will soon be a 12 year old car! If you have a 2010 model presumably a lot of these parts may have been revised and are more reliable. The IS-F is definitely a lot more reliable than the cars you mentioned, I would be surprised to ever see a check engine light!
  6. They are reliable, but when they go wrong they can't cost a huge amount. When my sat nav went, the repair bill to the warranty company was around £5K. A blown speaker was around £800. A DVD changer issue was around £2K. Brake caliper leak was around £1K. There is a user here who had a gearbox problem and the repair bill was well over £10K. If I didn't have warranty I would have probably had to live with some of these faults, or find used parts etc. Putting aside an equivalent amount of money wouldn't have covered the cost of these faults.
  7. That's a good trick, I wish I would have thought about that! I am now sticking to one of those third party warranties that probably won't pay up.
  8. Never do pads or discs at a dealer, its an absolute rip-off. I usually get Brembo pads from Eurocarparts for around £40 and my local garage fits them for £20! Except maybe the brake pipes, everything else should be pretty simple for a local garage to do, you would just need to source the parts.
  9. That makes sense since your car will be under 10 years old when the warranty starts. Its whether on the 1st of Jan 2022 you will be allowed to renew it again.
  10. Interesting! Goes to show how much the dealers know... still would be good if anyone actually managed to renew it after 10 years. Presumably there are quite a lot of 08 cars reaching that point.
  11. Dealer told me I couldn't renew. I'd be quite angry if this wasn't the case!
  12. Shame about the warranty, seems like they weaseled their way out from paying up. I have an 11 year old IS-F, and had a brake caliper leak (instant MOT failure). Initially Lexus warranty denied the claim insisting it was wear (tbh it did seem as wear), then the service centre insisted and finally they agreed to pay for it (£800 to replace the caliper). I've only had good experiences with Lexus warranty and it's a shame it cannot be renewed any further! You are lucky though with the labour rate, my dealer charges £150/hour!
  13. Glad its all fixed now, but why did the warranty refuse to fix it? Did they consider it wear and tear? Was it the official Lexus warranty? I am also surprised how cheap the labour was considering everything that was done.
  14. Thanks, it would be interesting to know the labour time to change the gearbox. For 08 owners its crazy to think a gearbox failure can practically write-off the car. I guess if you are out of warranty you could go for a salvaged/reconditioned gearbox as a last resort. Glad you got it all done under warranty!
  15. £18k!? For a gearbox change? It would be good to know the breakdown of the bill...
