  1. Exactly the same problem here. Took it to the dealer who said they have to replace the unit. Apparently it costs £900 but he said the extended warranty will cover this.

Also if you have an extended warranty, please note that the dealer will say you have to pay for the bulbs (£160) since its wear and tear even though the problem is with the unit. only the unit will be replaced by the warranty. This is not true, speak to the Head of service and they should sort this out...

  2. Hello all

I have a similar issue with the dunlop sport maxx - The car came with dunlop sport maxx and I got a good 40k from all four tyres without any problem.

I replaced the front ones in January 2009 with the same brand and had to replace them again in August (inner edge worn out - only 10000 miles). I was told its best to keep the same brand since the rear ones were fine. This was all replaced by lexus dealer.

I have just realised that both the front ones have worn out again (only 9000 miles)....The centre did ensure that the alignment was done correctly at the time.

Surprisingly the rear ones are fine. They were replaced by Kwikfit!

I am just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/suggestions.....is it better to change to some other brand?

  3. I recently negotiated the PCP and they refinanced the baloon payment over a period of 3 years. I think you have an option of 2/3/4 years. You can refinance the baloon payment or final value of the car for 3 years(so that monthly payments are less) and by all means return the car after one year without any penalty. (they will calculate the diff between market value and the outstanding finance on the car when you return).

The revised agreement gives you the flexibility to return the car without any conditions i.e. no restrcition on mileage..BTW, this was with Lexus Financial Services...

  4. Dear All

Many thanks for your response. The car has been regularly serviced by Lexus since new without fail and its the first time I was told that the brake discs need replacement. I missed the point about 'wear and tear' and thought the dealer was trying to recover the costs of the service (he brought it down by £250). Its now been all sorted and probably my fault not trusting the dealer!

The extended warranty can be taken any time, even if there was a lapse between the two policies. For peace of mind and the unexpected rattles, I think its worth it.

  5. Dear All

I have just given my car for 60k service. Negotiated hard to get the cost of the big service down however I was told I need to replace the front brake discs and pads; its below the minimum/legal limit. I got a final price of £310 all inclusive for the discs/pads - this is the first time I had to replace since I bought the car (new)

    couple of questions:

    a) Now, my warranty has expired and with all the issues with Lexus (rattles, recalls etc) I am planning to take the extended warranty. Going through the forums, i realise that the warranty covers brake discs? I havent taken the extended warranty yet, but was wondering if its best to take that on Tuesday and claim the brake discs work through this. The only problem is that I have already paid for the brake discs on Saturday. Is it possible that I buy the warranty and claim it back if i speak with the dealer?

    B) Suede Interior - Lexus charge £120+VAT for professional valet service whereas the Car cleaning specialists up the road charge £60. However I was not sure about the local cleaners with the suede interior. What do other members think?

Sorry if this has been covered before.

    Many thanks in advance.

    many thanks

  6. Hello all,

I've got a few niggling problems with my 220d and want to get your opinions on them, and whether the dealer will think I'm taking the p**s if I give them a list of things to fix!? the problems are as follows:

    - Squeaky gator

    - Rear windscreen seems to steam up all the time

    - Very clunky gearbox (I know the gearboxes have problems, but I can here it clunk when I'm changing gears)

    - Loud cracking noise coming from the dash

    - Steering wheel doesn't seem to be straight (it had the steering rack recall before i bought it in Feb)

    - When doing motorway speeds the steering seems to be twitchy (could be related to the steering wheel position)

Any advice or experiences would be most welcome. I look forward to your responses.

I realise you live in Kent. If you are near T Wells, take it to Lexus TWells. They are pretty good and I dont see any reason if the car is still under warranty. When I bought mine, I was there with my IS250 every fortnight!

  7. Somebody might correct me but my understanding was even a PCP with greater than £25k financed figure and prior to April 2008 could be unregulated and therefore have not VT clause. Therefore the only handback option you have is at the end of the term.

Hi there - I financed for 25k, this was during June 2006 (3yrs) and I had the option of terminating it after 50% was paid, (which I did) the exact figure was stated on my pcp.

  8. Hi,

I finally purchased and had painted/fitted my spoiler - see below. I know its not a good pic, shadows etc. Those are genuine bright spots from the sun no editing done there. :shifty: That was after a couple of coats of BH Autobalm.

    Rear windows tinted too.

    Cheers

    Hi there

just realised that the one you purchased is no longer available on eBay.. May I ask how much it cost you to do the whole work?

    thanks

  9. Hi All

I was in a similar situation - my HP with lexus finance is coming to an end in July..I have clocked almost double the miles agreed and I was planning to terminate the contract early so I didnt have to repay the charges. I then started looking around and I have to say - no other car came close to the IS (toys). I had plans to downgrade to an IS 200....

With finance hard to come by, finance companies were asking for more deposit...so I phoned Lex finance services to see what my options were...and guess what?..they took me off from the Hire Purchase agreement and refinanced the car at a better deal; less monthly payment.....another 36 months, the car will be mine and no more HP.... .I am now free to sell, trade or do whatever I want with the car.....

  10. Hello All

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - I have the Beige Cellensia interior (I think its Suede) and was wondering if there are any cleaning products for the seats. I had taken it to the dealer couple of times when it was dirty and they kindly cleaned and polished it. However I am not sure of the products they use, they just get the valeting company to clean it.

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks

  11. Dear All

I shall appreciate your comments/views on buying a small car.

With the increasing fuel costs, tax and a change in my partner's circumstances, we are planning to buy a small car in addition to the IS 250 we currently have. Currently I am clocking 80 - 90miles per day on the IS, we hope to use the small car for everyday use and keep the IS as a family car.

I am a bit confused and hope to get your views on this. We are currently looking into the new Yaris or Corsa (£35 tax and 60mpg for both these cars!!!). Dont know if any of you have them or have had any experience. I shall appreciate your views on any small cars which is economical to run/maintain so that I dont end up clocking 65000 miles on my IS by next year. Alternatively we were planning to buy a 3k cheap car for day to day use, but was not sure about the reliability.

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place; any advice much appreciated.

  12. Not exaggerating, I averaged 59mpg on the M25 couple of weeks back (400 mile trip). Its not been consistent since then, I average 35-38 everyday.

hold on a minute, 59mpg on a 400 mile trip from an IS250..your trip computer is telling pork pies!

I would like to think the same, wish I had captured it, could have posted it here. Surprisingly, it worked on that trip because I had nearly half tank left. I have realised that if you fill the tank and then cruise 60-65 miles an hour on the motorway, the average shoots up and then if you maintain the speed it will stay for a while.

  13. Hello all

I have just had my 30k service done and I am still finding it dificult to understand the difference in costs by Lexus dealers.

Lex TWells quoted £350 inclusive VAT. I spoke to Lex Canterbury (owned by the same group) and they quoted £260. When asked about the difference, they couldnt justify - one said - "there are two types of service", we can give you the cheapest for £260. Finally Lex Twells agreed for £260. I was surprised by this - a diff of almost £100!! I then called Lexus Croydon(the guy was not interested in knowing what prices I received)..they quoted £350. Lex Bromley quoted £280 and Lex Brighton never came back!

Jamboo - I enquired what they actually did during the service - they all said it was state of the art technology..blah blah...all dealers did exactly the same thing!!! In the end, I drove to Lex Hanley - £125 inclusive everything!!!
