  1. Thanks Abbas

do you happen to know.. or anyone else for that matter...how this compares to for e.g. Castrol GTX Magnetic fully synthetic??

i will be buying oil in the next couple of days so would appreciate your tips..

i know the Fuchs cost a lot more... Castrol is around £25 from Halfords.

    ta

You get what you pay for Izzy, for the sake of £20 I would rather go for the Fuchs. I am no oil expert, only know from my own experiences and research.

I have used the magnatec on my second car this year and cant complain.

The Lexus just gets the best I can afford!

TBH any good oil, correct viscosity and if it meets the engine requirements stated in the manual will do the job. If your like me and notice the slightest difference in your car and want the very best protection & perfomance then go for the Silkolene.

Hopefully you will have some more opinions on the way, hope this helps...

  2. My recommendation would be Fuchs Silkolene Pro S 5W - 30.

Changed mine recently to the Silkolene took it for a good hard drive a couple of weeks later and the engine performance was the best it has ever been.

I also notice the car starts so quick when the temp is low but then again so did the last oil.

My last oil was Amsoil 5W - 30 which was a very good oil also.

you noticed an actual difference after the oil change?? really??

i didnt think an oil change would make a considerable difference in the performance of the engine :-S

where and how much did yours cost Abbas?

I noticed a difference when I first switched to fully synthetic 5w - 30 before that i let the garage put in the recommended oil. I put a stop to this when I found out they used cheap 10w - 40 mineral oil.

The main reason for using these oils was for better engine protection.

The Silkolene for me made a difference, it is a very good oil. The engine was smoother and sounded so nice, I had an enjoyable drive exploring the cars limits.

Personally I would expect a difference after renewing old dirty oil for new especially if its of a very high quality like the Silkolene ester synthetic.

I bought mine from Opie Oils for £44.99 inc delivery.

  3. My recommendation would be Fuchs Silkolene Pro S 5W - 30.

  4. I used Redline think it was MT90 or something like that, its fully synthetic. Seems a little smoother changing gears when cold but not a huge difference really.
RedLine MT-90 FTW!! I've got it in mine & it's fantastic stuff.

Others that are safe to use include TRD 75W90 & Amsoil 75W90. I'm sure you are well aware that you can't use anything higher than a GL4 rated oil in the J160 box.

Where to get in the UK http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1020-redline-s...75w-90-gl4.aspx

would this be ok and how many Litres do i need?

    thanks ;)

    wahid

so guys that means i only need one bottle then?

    thanks

    wahid

You will need 1.8 litres (1.9 US quarts) When I bought mine I got two 1 US quart bottles.

If you buy from Opie Oils it would cost you £32.91 with memebr discount.

  5. Cheers. So would I just phone a Lexus dealer and ask if they can supply that part?

Yeah I could live with it being a bit stiffer over bumpy roads, just dont want the ride to suffer massively by lowering it, or I wouldnt bother.

Will prob need to get some new shocks soon, as car has done about 70k. Where would I get the KYB OEM shocks?

Yea just call and ask for the TTE lowerings springs.

  6. Hi & Welcome,

You could go for TTE springs they are about £150 from Lexus dealers (even cheaper with Gold discount) and are a 30mm drop. I think they may be the same spring as the Eibach ones you are talking about but not 100% sure.

I used them and am really pleased with the look and the way the car feels now.

As my IS was so high before the drop I thought the ride would become much more harder but it was not, infact it was pretty much the same. I did notice though it was crashy over bad roads but that I can live with.

I also fitted new KYB OEM replacement shocks with the springs as old one had too many miles on them.

  7. I use http://imageshack.us/ to upload pics.

Click Browse and select pic from your computer, click open.

Check box resize image and select 640*480 (for message boards)

    Click start upload

On the next screen scroll to the bottom of the page and look for "Hotlink for forums 1" copy this & paste in the box you are typing the post in.

This works to do one pic at a time.

    As for the mods...

Anti roll bars - it took me 18 months to do mine wish I had done them asap. A very noticable improvement everytime you turn the steering wheel!

HID Lights- 6000k one of the cheapest and best mods I did to the car.

  8. I fitted mine about a week ago, was a pain getting old drop links off. I decided to replace the old drop links with new ones from eBay along with the bars.

The steering wheel felt so much lighter and the car goes round corners so much faster without any body roll.

A great mod but I found installing them a real challenge due to the drop links. Well worth it though :)
