RZ Owners Manual

I think the camera will be the same, if not better. On the recently updated Velar the 360 camera is no longer available on anything other than the Autobiography which the P400e isn’t available. Against all market sentiment the Autobiography is only available in diesel !! My dealer raised a query regards the lack of the 360 camera, even as an option on the HSE and was told it’s only available on top range models the P400e HSE list is £ 76k so probably £80k after options My main concern is after the ease of getting in and out of the Velar - Will the RZ be similar. Incidentally, my dealer called me last week to say they have a date for the demo car - 1st April - I’m hoping it’s not an April Fool. I’m still mulling over whether in 2 or 3 years time a car with a range of only 200ish miles will be a good sell residual value wise -

RZ Owners Manual

You’re welcome. I found a Lexus Charging site and its map did show chargers from multiple providers. It’s using the Zap Map and I’m hoping the inbuilt Sat Nav has these. The map also shows the availability and recharge power for each site. I have a Velar which I’ve had from new 2 years ago. Just too many niggles, particularly with the EV (it’s a P400e) to consider keeping it long term. Shame as it is a good car. -

Toyota’s response to the article is a bit strange to say the least. They say that whilst the car may report there is zero miles range left there may actually be 9% say 25 miles. They say this to avoid the car having to stop when zero is reported ! https://www.elbil24.no/tester/range-issues-for-bz4x-toyota-responds-to-criticism/77763009 -

Received an update from my dealer yesterday. The current forecast is a car for a test drive early next year, maybe Feb with my delivery being May. At least it isn’t moving back ! -

My dealer provided a further update on deliveries - looks like Lexus are shuffling builds to try to get some RZ’s out sooner rather than later When the car goes into build the delivery times may come forward, this happens sometimes, so although I am quoting you May now it maybe a little sooner but I think March will be a bit too soon, just from what is happening with other models and delays. For example Lexus is pausing sales of the NX 350h so that they can catch up and fulfil customer orders. If they did not pause the sales on this model then we would be looking at customer deliveries in 2024. Therefore across all of our models unfortunately there have been delays and unexpected situations so I cannot comment 100% on the delivery date for the RZ. -

I had an email from my dealer today confirming my order No as LE9783 with a current expected delivery of May 23. He also said - However when the car goes into build this date should come forward, but I do not know for certain or by how much. I am hoping he is right ! -

£2k - was that your choice or is the £500 no longer available. Have you got a full order with the terms on it confirming the price with no get out for Lexus ? -

No they aren’t. They called on the same day the official price list was announced, asked my preferences and said demos realistically wouldn’t be in the UK until about June and my delivery Aug - prolly then waiting until the new reg in Sept. They had experienced deliveries of NX’s pushed back so were being quite pessimistic about actual delivery times - even at the cost of potentially losing a sale. At the same time, the Range Rover dealer I bought my car from told me if I ordered a RR then he couldn’t give an official delivery time but said not less than a year. -

If a dealer is adamant that the car would be delivered in March I would ask when they will have a car to test drive - the demos should be available well in advance of deliveries otherwise they will be risking manufacturing and delivering cars that the buyer can cancel and get their deposit back. -

The day the prices were formally announced my dealer called to ask my colour and trim colours. I asked him why now as he was saying delivery would be well into next year (probably Sept) and he said he wanted to load the factory order and this needed the info. He said it would then be an order in my name and not a dealer order - he also said that nearer the time of manufacture, if I wanted to change then it could push back delivery. He did assure me that I could pull out of the order and get my £500 back, up until a test drive or start of manufacture, whichever was the later. -

That’s why all new home chargers must have the capability of tallowing he supplier to throttle back or even terminating charging in the UK ! -

I have had 4 new PHEV’s since 2015 - initially for tax saving but with the current one personally owned. In my case they suit my mostly local driving and also the acceleration is much better compared to a similar size petrol car. My very heavy RR Velar does 0 to 60 in just over 5s and over 6k miles has returned nearly 90mpg. It dives to about 30 mpg after the 30 mile EV range has been used. I think they are a great compromise as you have all the advantage of EV (including environmental) for local driving but no range anxiety issues on long journeys. I am looking to make my next car an EV mainly due to expected higher residuals in future years as well as great acceleration when needed. Ironically, at a time EV’s are bringing faster driving, local councils are introducing 20 mph limits and I wouldn’t be surprised if 50 mph limits were introduced on motorways. Still, that will add to the range of EV’s. I am looking to buy an RZ as the best car I have had (and kept the longest) was a 2008 GS450h which went like the clappers and at 3 years old looked inside and out brand new. I am hoping the RZ lives up to that. -

As my fixed rate until Dec is only 18p and the current cap is about 28p and becoming 52p on 1st Oct I doubt I can get anything more cost effective. EON aren’t offering any fixed tariffs for next year as they say it is (hopefully) possible that you could fix now at a much higher rate than the cap will be. -

I had to renew my home charger a few months back (my Rolec failed after 7 years !). The installer told me that from 1st July all chargers had to be “smart” - I thought he meant controllable by an App and a timer - he said yes to those, but the important element was that the supplier could ‘throttle back’ charge rates to even the load on the grid. He said it meant that a full EV driver with a car needing say 10 hours on a home charger could discover that only over night only half a charge has been delivered. He said that was the main reason they brought in the new regulation. -

EON doesn’t offer cut price tariffs for EV’s so there is no advantage in charging overnight (my charger and car can set charge times). Hopefully they will introduce them - I am fortunately on a fixed price tariff until Dec (£ 0.18 / kWh ) so charging my PHEV Range Rover Velar saves a fortune compared to petrol. -

I have read a number of reports where capped electric tariffs will soon have off-peak rates significantly less than the capped rate - let’s hope so. At the current capped rate of 52p / Kw x say 70kw = £ 36.40 for say 200 miles = 18p / mile. Petrol say £ 1.90 / litre at say 35 mpg = 25p / mile. If they don’t introduce off-peak tariffs then EV’s will probably be more expensive to run than petrol from next Jan. That’ll do the government push for more EV’s a world of good ! -

I bought 3 PHEV’s as company cars in my own Limited company. They were treated the same as EV’s for Corporation Tax - the whole purchase cost was offset against Corp Tax in the first year. Currently say £72k x 19% = £ 14k. The personal tax for a PHEV is more than than a EV - also dependant on the electric range. A £ 72k EV is a taxable amount of £ 1,400 a PHEV with 60 miles range (say BMW 545e) is £ 5.7k and with a 33 mile range (Range Rover Velar P400e) £8.6k. Worse case is say £ 7k x 40% = £2.8k a year. -

This US website indicates it’s not a simple issue to resolve and production of the Toyota has ceased and no resumption date been indicated. Perhaps Lexus are being pessimistic in some dealers saying deliveries next year but maybe not. https://www.electrifying.com/blog/article/toyota-offers-buy-back-option-for-american-drivers-who-bought-recalled-bz4x-suv
