Servers down - no charging
wivenhoe replied to JoMit's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
If the servers are down then the app can’t tell you they are. I definitely wouldn’t rely on Lexus Link to schedule a charge. I use my charger app which is more reliable or a bit of a faff and use the in-car scheduler. In my experience even the preheat fails quite regularly, which I put down to a signal issue. I’m not sure which network Lexus sim’s use, but it’s unreliable in my location. -
Heating doesn't work

You’ll notice that the ice stays on the bonnet for longer too. I see in the owners manual that the front camera is heated to overcome snow on it - But it says where fitted so I reckon it’s only fitted on cold climate cars -

Heating doesn't work

In cold weather I think you do need to - as you say, EV’s have no engine to produce the initial heat and the radiant heaters take a bit of time and so does the heater system. I miss the heated windscreen in the previous car - even more of a loss in the Lexus as the screen tends to mist up without the initial warm air blower. Similarly, having driven a RX with a digital rear view mirror, I don’t understand why that isn’t even an option on a car without a rear wiper. With the washer on the camera it would very helpful at seeing out the back ! -
Locked charging plug
wivenhoe replied to John Adams's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
You said public charging which is not unpaid for workplace chargers. In my experience when a public charger has 2 cables, generally but maybe not all, have type 2 and CHAdeMO charging cables In terms of locking, I have had 4 plug-ins all using Type 2 connectors. (2 Merc, 1 BMW & a Range Rover) and all locked the cable which had to be unlocked by opening the car locks. Which EV’s have you had that allowed you to disconnect the cable when the car is locked and how do the chargers shut off mid charge - all the chargers I have used over the last 10 years shut off mid charge when I unlocked the car. If you could remove the cable mid charge whilst the car is locked what would stop someone disconnecting a public (not workplace private charger) whilst the car is unattended. In your scenario, you could park the car, put on charge for a long journey and find out someone has disconnected your car with no charge. If it bothers you so much, why not just use the App to unlock the car remotely - that will interrupt the charge. -

I’m not sure how anyone could use a cable from your occupied bay - if they were in a bay close enough they would have their own cable. A lot of the Ultra & high speed chargers will bill you for occupying a bay after charging has finished - it can cost an awful lot. I think for instance Tesla charge 50p / minute but if all chargers are in use then it’s £ 1 / minute -

As with 99% of charging subscriptions download the App and then subscribe. -
RZ450e Takumi Really Poor Range
wivenhoe replied to RZ450MK's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
As the temperature are still fairly mild it is unusual that at 100% with all ac off the range starts at 175. Have you recently done a lot of high speed trips ? Most people on here are starting with 200+ and recently I was getting 230 after local driving. -
RZ RIDE QUALITY….HELP
wivenhoe replied to Yorkshire Lexus's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
Glad you liked it. You must have driven quite hard or a lot of motorways at 70+ to achieve 2.4 in relatively mild weather - I always ‘push along’ and achieve a lot better. 2.4 is a total range of about 160 which after the upgrade does seem very low. Was that the cumulative average or at the end of one of yours trips ? Even driving ‘sportily’ I have always found the brakes reassuring - a bit too much if the regen is set on 4. Had the demo had a bit of a hard life, although the brakes should cope with that. -
RZ RIDE QUALITY….HELP

Yes - I forgot about the 300e so when I said different models I meant different spec 450e’s not 300e vs 450e. -
RZ RIDE QUALITY….HELP

I think the models are different. The Takumi is the only model to have ‘performance dampers’ - I would definitely suggest a long test drive. All EV’s are much heavier than petrol equivalents and the performance dampers are meant to minimise ‘dive’ under breaking. But on the other hand the 20” wheels will bring a harsher ride. As you’re going for a Premium Plus make sure the dealer doesn’t give you a Takumi demo. I was initially surprised how harsh the ride was and then read on here that Lexus vastly over inflate the tyres at the factory for the long sea crossing. I checked mine and they were well up - reduced them to just below recommended and a different car. I didn’t like the Dunlop summer tyres so had Cross Climate 2 put on, much quieter in my opinion. -
Underwhelmed by external colour choices
wivenhoe replied to ArneT's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
I don’t have blue fake leather - it is the eco friendly ultrasuade! Was initially underwhelmed by it compared to the real leather in my Range Rover, but after 18 months of supporting a 18 stone 6’ 2” lump it looks brand new so may be more durable than real or fake leather. Fake leather reminds me of the Mercedes case where about 3 years ago someone took them to court, and won, over miss-selling his E Class as having leather seats. Mercedes had to admit that the sides and some other bits were not leather but they said it was for durability. They changed all their marketing material. -
Certainly not had the issues you have had. All I can say is that to open the charge hatch you have to press at the right spot - if the car has been unlocked for a bit I have found to open the charge port it’s best to lock the car and then re-unlock. It seems the port locks itself after a short time of the car being unlocked. It’s a bit like the kick for opening the boot - even after 18 months my wife can’t use it as she doesn’t kick in the right spot ! Hope you get your issues sorted soon as nobody has reported similar problems on here.

RZ test drive.

That’s interesting - I wonder what else is different as I didn’t think there was any changes in spec in 2024. -
Check rear seats. No!

It does seem random - I read that it also sounds if you have opened the tailgate to remind you may have left the shopping in the boot ! -

Gadgetman - is that from the UK manual as my 2023 manual doesn’t have that - page 226 of mine has details of the bottle holders and doesn’t have the shades anywhere in it. The US & Japanese markets have as an accessory but the UK doesn’t seem to. -
speed indicator
wivenhoe replied to Ian White's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
Unfortunately despite not being in the EU, the cars here comply with EU regulations and those require the ‘safety features’ to always default on. Future cars will also have as default the speed limiter always complying with speed limits. -
Software update for hud models?
wivenhoe replied to kieron 77's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
It didn’t occur to me that the display would be different without a HUD. I suspect that whilst your car had been previously updated, Lexus had changed the range update after the HUD’s had failed and so it wasn’t working the same - it didn’t rectify the very thing the original resolved i.e. the dramatic drop just for turning Auto on. Maybe your latest update rectifies that and that was why they issued it. I’ve asked my dealer if the update is available for my car and I suspect I’ll be told no as I already have it by virtue of the original update. I’ll post what they say. -

I should also have said that in my car if I turn the Auto heat / ac on and then select full by selecting ‘Front’ the range drops about 30 ish. If I turn the ‘Front’ off and I always then have the fan speed at 3 / Eco then the range goes back up to within about 7 ish of the range without. -

I should also have added that the screenshot shows 4.2 miles and has/ kw which does seem to confirm say 64kw x 4.2 = 269 miles. -

MattH84 - very welcome news. I’ll contact my dealer and enquire. Coincidently I am on a RZ site in America. A guy recently posted his range having run the car in Range mode. His screen shot shows he has driven 146 miles and has 130 miles left - scarily similar to your 271 ! His screen shot also shows a different dash to what I can select so US market must be different. -

Be interesting to see how you find the range, especially now the temperatures have dropped. -

wivenhoe replied to larryadler's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
It’s the rear parcel shelf that folds in half for stowage under the floor. The glass roof doesn’t have any shades - the headlining and roof isn’t deep enough to incorporate it and the Lexus thinking seems to be weight saving (on a 2.5t car !) I believe it’s only the Takumi that has the opaque feature. -

wivenhoe replied to larryadler's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
I don’t think there are any sliding covers as there is no depth in the headlining. I seen on the RZ American forum Lexus sell fix in shades - very expensive at $ 350 ! You could try emailing Fish Brothers of Swindon - they are really knowledgable and helpful -enquiry@lexuspartsdirect.co.uk No idea what these are like - they don’t slide and look a right faff so I think you would fix it at the start of summer and take it down around now - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sunshade-Electrostatic-Adsorption-Sunroof-Skylight/dp/B0DHJFCTTM/ref=sr_1_5?crid=37NYU8WZE98IU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.dHThNOAE3sROMYb-HKriIPH9OkrF5Mh7kwmDgG7ZPDlglr7VEMueTcJcwxwGpIee5N6-ltG_90Ejej6jFh99iXCe9uphojLx5usV6GQlyKXJSxgeG3wgQTHVPHY7j6GYN_VDZM18ghPvoYrmNMuQ3udfOi9RqLvRD_ijbUnSEbEmQ2QbVNPyN2wbzigLxOzDJ6l854-P7ELsmOzDjr2Ap2OV_I_9tZD0Rw9NkAJ4-azLzDtZ6Vmi_qLDATarHenLgR0p2LNPYzKwIXmkNUozCb2HWGrZbNQGPv_U2q6gUj8.3hyRouu56uTpbN26CnHlRkIsZtUZJ6CjDuY3E7Swje0&dib_tag=se&keywords=RZ+sunroof+shade&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1728849120&sprefix=rz+sunroof+shade%2Caps%2C108&sr=8-5&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.d7e5a2de-8759-4da3-993c-d11b6e3d217f -
Software update for hud models?
wivenhoe replied to kieron 77's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
I get exactly the same range as John. This thread confirms that some dealers don’t have a clue about the RZ. I’ve been really pleased with the service and knowledge from my dealer. I had a concern that the recent recall would involve a system update and maybe wipe out the range update - Lexus software expertise is suspect, as shown by the original range update being fiddled with and then trashing the HUD’s. My dealer confirmed neither the handbrake nor camera recall would involve the system software - they knew the handbrake issue isn’t relevant to Takumi’s as it only covered towing (a tow bar can’t be installed due to the performance dampers I believe) and that the camera recall was just an inspection and it was across the Lexus range and they hadn’t found 1 car needing a replacement.
