  1. Why bother with the parking brake?... I have had my GS for 5 months now and have NEVER used the parking brake - ONCE. Come to think of it I have had auto cars for 10 years now and don't thing I've ever applied the handbrake/parking brake in any of them !! - Once you stick it in park the transmissions locked so your car aint going anywhere... The Ed Two reasons - firstly having never had an auto I tend to apply the brake as if I am still driving a manual, when I probably don't need to. Old habits die hard! Secondly I don't like keeping my foot on the brake when stationary in traffic. I would rather put into neutral and put the parking brake on. I suppose I could put it into Park but when in stop start traffic I find this awkward. I have only had an auto for six months after 17 years of using a manual, it's just a case of getting used to it!
  2. Ordered mine in November 2005 on the basis that they had one in my spec in the country. In the end that was an "error" and the car was actually on a boat. Took about 5 weeks in total from ordering to driving out the dealership. Despite the delay I love the car, best I've ever had. Waiting times can be a pain and I sometimes think that the dealers are not 100% honest with people, but these are very quickly forgotten once you get the car.
  3. Get the iPod one and while you're in the Apple shop buy the charger as well...it is one of the few that fit in the auxilary socket and allows closure of the arm rest. Which charger is it that fits the iPod and allows closure of the arm rest? I am off to Birmingham at the weekend and can pop into the Apple shop while there.
  4. Here what I do. Park, Press wing mirror Switch (Mirrors fold in) Turn off ignition, press wing mirror switch. Then when I start the car next time wing mirrors fold out. I must admit though it would be better if all this stuff was automatic and configurable on a menu. It's obviously possible as all controlled by computer. I do the same with my car Arkanoid! I got some touch up paint but never checked what colour I was given! I would like to an electronic parking brake (where you just press a button to engage the hand brake) as I am starting to find the foot break a pain in the @ss. My other halfs Disco has this feature and I think it's very cool.
  5. Good luck with the car collection. You will need to buy a cable to connect it to the Aux input. I use a Belkin cable but this was bought for me as a pressie so not sure where it came from or how much.
  6. We have a set of swallows that nest next to the house. They are always crapping on my car but they've never marked the paint so far (touch wood). I was in Leicester shopping yesterday and I took my car to Lexus to take advantage of the free car wash. Car looked amazing, got home, parked up. I was emptying shopping out the car and then noticed that a bird had crapped on the car! I hadn't been back more than 5 minutes!
  7. I thought the weave front and back were different. The problem lies with the actual mechanism more that the belt. Or am I wrong.
  8. Lexus Insurance gave me the best quote, £498. I was previously with Direct Line who quoted me £895, which I wasn,t happy with, so looked around. Got quotes from NU (£799), More Than (£705). It was a work mate who suggested getting a quote from Lexus. Silly me for not thinking of that one. The cover is actually better than the other quotes I got, with many extras that are free, which you have to pay for with the others. I have been quoted £600 from Lexus which includes business use, has a low excess and protected No claims. It is not the cheapest but does have a lot of good things going for it. The cheapest I've been quoted is £520 for the same cover. The issue I have is that it is not always wise going with the cheapest insurer. I have learned that lesson after my car was keyed and all the hassle I had with the insurance company sorting it out. Making me do all the leg work, having to chase them, unreturned calls etc. and in the end I am still not happy mainly because I want the work done at a Lexus garage and they want it done elsewhere. If I had gone with Lexus I could have taken it to the dealer of my choice, got a decent courtesy car etc. When my renewal comes up (Sept.) I will seriously think about going with Lexus. Mainly for the peace of mind and hopefully quick resolution to claims.
  9. Jamboo, I too had two Netgears from PC world that just kept dropping the connection. Funnily enough every time I go to a PCWorld someone seems to be returning a Netgear Router :o In the end a Linksys WAG54G was recommended to me and in the 12 months I've had it I can't think of a time when the connection has dropped. Very reliable. :D
