  1. As I am not the most educated on cars/tyres/suspension etc. I didn't realise the seriousness of this. I seen it as merely an inconvenience having to buy a new tyre in the event of a puncture. I bought the car with the run flats fitted unbeknown to me, from a small time independant dealer. I doubt he even knew he was selling a car with incorrect tyres. I know the previous owner was a woman from the documents, and I reckon she was probably ignorant to the situation too. I have just checked through the reciepts that came with the car, but there was nothing for tyres. The two runflats on the front of the car have tread for the short term future, but now I think I should change them next week to have normal tyres on all 4 corners. Cut my losses, they would need changed in a couple of months anyway.

  2. How come you have RFT's on the IS.... There not OEM are they?

Definately not, my car is a 2002, I don't even think run flats were common place then. I reckon the previous owner put them on. I didn't notice when I bought the car in January. I read somewhere that runflats shouldn't be put on a car if they didn't come as standard, something about the suspension settings and runflats being a complete package??? Did you ever hear that??? I will be changing the fronts soon enough anyhow.

  3. Just thought I would share my opinion after having to buy a new tyre after a run flat got punctured. I bought my IS200 with 4 run flat tyres on and a normal spare. The spare had never been on the car and the rear tyres had very little wear. Any how I got a puncture on rear dvr side last week, and could I get anyone to even try to plug or patch it?.......Not a chance!!! Tried 5 different places and all told me I needed to buy a new tyre, not happy about that. Ended up putting the spare and a new tyre on the back, and kept the unpunctured rear as the new spare. All the tyres were Continental turanza so it worked out ok. The original spare was luckily (strangely) a normal tyre. So now I have run flat fronts and normal rears and I will be phasing out the fronts when I need to change them. Got me thinking afterwards, the previous owner was a woman, and she probably had the run flats put on for peace of mind, but for anyone who CANT afford to buy a new tyre every time they get a puncture, avoid the run flats like the plague!!!!

  4. if it was a new battery in january it should be under warranty and free to exchange? all come with one year and you can get 2-3-4 and life time warranty on batterys :winky:

I bought privately mate, so no way of getting a freebie. It's sorted now anyway, cheers. It would be useful to know about the instructions for future use. Could you send them to me please, Thanks

  5. These grilles retail at £200+ so grab a bargain, This is the lowest price on ebay of buy it now of £59 with delivery of £9.95 in the UK

Personally I am :tsktsk: off with these guys on eBay! Total price including delivery is £68.95 which is almost twice the dealer price. I would guess these guys are simply buying them from a Lexus dealer and selling them at a profit of at least £33 and that is not taking into account any discount for the probable buying in bulk. As for the grilles selling at £200+, that is ridiculous money, although some people are that greedy it wouldn't surprise me.

  6. My 2002 IS200 is having trouble starting after sitting overnight. It starts fine again after a drive to work and the alternator has had a chance to charge her up, but same problem next morning again. Voltmeter on the dash reads about 13 volts but when I turn the key the needle drops to about 3 volts. The engine will start but only just and the accelerator has to be floored. Called into a local Toyota dealer this morning and he has it booked in for a draw test in the morning. Does anyone know what this involves and what is the likely problem? I did run the Battery flat about a month ago when installing and testing a new head unit, but after jumping and driving again it gave no problems since - until 3 days ago!!! The Battery was fitted new when I bought the car in January.

  7. Gord's does look that way alright. I'm just trying to find the right person to spray and fit the kit now. Busy for the next few weeks, hope to get it done soon. Photos to follow. :offtopic: By the way Wozza, I followed your advice on the facia install, turned out a treat, blends in well with the rest of the dash, great workshop post, thanks.

  8. I went in today and had my mind made up to take the low level one. I had an arguement about the wrong one being ordered anyway but told him I'd take it anyway as I would probably have to wait another 2 months for the high level one to arrive. I'm happy with it now, it's grown on me. The girlfriend tells me it's better as she doesn't want me driving about in something that will attract too much attention!!! I'm not sure whether she was refering to the police or other female interest??? Anyhow I'm now waiting on a trd front lip (NOT from Halfords) and then my kit is complete. I will be fitting the lot in one go. TRD front lip, TRD side skirts, TTE rear skirt, and the spoiler shown above, can't wait!!!! Should look good then. Thanks for the honest opinions, cheers.

  9. It's official - I now hate Halford's!!! I ordered an Altezza style spoiler through them on 28th January and after much chasing up it finally arrived yesterday!!! BUT it wasn't what I ordered. The spoiler is from Lester and they do two types for the IS200 - the Altezza high level one and this one which is what arrived yesterday. My question is should I take it or not? The guy who put in the order was off today, so I have to talk to him tomorrow. It's not a matter of the rights or wrongs of him mixing up the catalogue number on the order. It's more a question of would this spoiler look good with the rest of my kit which is a TRD front lip, TRD side skirts and a TTE rear skirt. They are both the same price and I paid in full when ordering. It is a nice spoiler and I am now thinking it would look good. What do you all think? Does anyone else have this spoiler and have any photos of it fitted?

  10. when i had my dvd player in on the mot nobody said anything, not to sure about the police though.to be honest its to low down to see from behind anyway and you could always press the button to switch it off anyway, how did you get on with the hissing anyway cos i was looking at the same hu on ebay?

I've nearly grown used to it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and would prefer to fix it if possible but its not the end of the world. I'll keep trying to find a solution for a while yet. I had wired in a switch to enable the wire to be connected one way as normal, and the other way to chasis ground, but for some reason it didn't work. Couldn't figure it out so it's now permanently grounded. Has anyone else made such a switch setup?

  11. to get the dvd to plat whilst moving all you need to do is identify the lead that connects to the handbrake and ground it..

fronts will work ok with standard speakers, rears are actually 2 x speakers on each side so you will have to rewire them to 3 ohms (not ideal) or put new ones in..

I successfully grounded the proper wire and it plays all the time now, but I was wondering would that safety feature ever have to be demonstrated as working to either the police or at MOT tests?

  12. I contacted the seller about the noise and got this short vague reply:

"we have not heard of hissing noice - if possible please recheck the wiring to the speakers and make sure they are connected correctly and securely."

Needless to say this was no help whatsoever. So I remain clueless. Would an ICE shop be likely to hook up an amp to test the HU on the understanding that if it eliminated the hiss I would be buying the amp? Surely they would have opened box products lying about? I can't justify spending money on an amp that might not fix the problem.
