  1. Yeh, I even got a brand new set of nuts (I said stop sniggering!) and a new set of locking wheel nuts in one of my boxes from bluemackie. Not sure they should have been there but I cant complain

Well done on winning those Rich and thanks ddadon, Ill look them up spose 47 quid + vat comes out to about what Rich paid - still damn expensive tho.

I just spotted these from the US http://www.centercaps.net/caps/details.php?stockNumber=25. I think they look right, Ill drop em an email and see whether theyre the right ones and how much they will be shipped - might be worth getting a few sets judging on the interest on ebay :)

edit - wow I just saw the shipping on the website its $10 per centrecap and each cap is $16 - so thats $26 / 2ish - about £13 - £15 quid each

Also - to answer my own question, I went to a specialist wheel place yesterday (Dave Sheldon in Salford) he said that I wouldnt find any non-original caps that would fit in original Lexus alloys, or if I did then they wouldnt fit properly - theyd pop out when the wheel expanded in different temperatures etc. So looks like we have to bend over and take it off Lexus :(

I got new sets of nuts in one of my boxes as well and like you i wasnt expecting them there, the car has been dropped off for fitting this morning.

With regards to the American seller, do bear in mind that customs might show you some unwanted love by charging vat on top of whatever you've paid the seller. I had that problem when i bought fog lights from a seller in Japan. Customs and parcel force charged me an extra £40... The fog lights still came in less than what lexus wanted for just one of them so i wasnt too ******.

  2. I live just off City Road in Central London and i've been pulled over a number of times... Got pulled over once only to be asked where I was coming from and where i was going!

The last time around they went through the full works, pulled me over, checked the car, my details, when they couldnt find anything the copper said when i drove past them the lights at the back of my car werent working but as soon as they pulled me over it started working again... He then went on to say maybe i've got a wiring problem. Thats the biggest bull**** i've heard in a long time.

  3. Well i got the car back yesterday. A valve in the throttle body got stuck instead of opening and closing as it should apparently. Anyways it got cleaned out and lubricated and problem went away.

What i do notice is that the car is so much more reponsive than before. Another thing i noticed this morning was the rev counter when the car is started from cold. I have used a 4 cars before buying the IS, on every single one, when the car is started from cold, the revs start quite high 1500rpm and then gradually go down to 500rpm once the engine warms up.

Before the trip to the Garage, my IS when started from cold goes straight down to around 350-400 rpm, but now it behaves like all the other car's i've had. I thought it was a lexus thing with the low rpm at start up so didnt think too much of it.

How does your IS behave at start up?

  4. I believe so.

But if your getting it sprayed, just send it as a whole, they can easily mask it up. Then replace the whole mirror?

    Stav

    Thanks Stav,

The one on the car has been glued permanently in place and doesnt fold *forgot to test if the mirrors folded before buying* The one in the pic is a used one that i have been offered by a breaker but cant stand the scuffs of it so just wanted to know if i could easily swap the blue bits from mine to the scruffed.

If you remove the glass then there is 3 screws(i think its three???) holding the blue colour coded part on, remove these screws and the cover should come off and then just swap them over! Think there is a little clip that holds it on although this will probably break when you remove the cover but its not needed.

    Jason :P

    Oh cool, thanks alot Jason!

    :)

  6. Phew, it does look like Vicky Parrot made a mistake. She was picked up on in the Autocar forum for it and they seem to have hastily re-edited the article so that it seems ok but is in fact complete nonsense now:

It looks like she wrote it in response to this: http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_...icle3842848.ece

Basically before it was to be that you guys with post March 2001 cars would only pay the band F Tax as:

Band G Over 225 – for cars registered on or after 23/03/06 £400.00

However the government will make you pay the full £400 as of next april!

    Phewww thank goodness...

  7. Hi All,

Well I just wanted to use this opportunity to thank the LOC for its assistance ever since i joined the club... I have never had this much resource available to me since i started my motoring life some 6 years ago. For once i dont feel alone with my thoughts when the car acts up for whatever reason...

A big thank you goes out to ToyotaGT who caried out the 60K service on the IS a couple of weeks ago, apart from the fun of finding you the service was flawless and thanks for the impartial advice. I will see you again at the end of the month for the Calipers.

Another thank you goes to the good Dr at W.I.M for sorting out the geometry on the IS last weekend. The car now handles beautifully, I drove my other car last night (Honda Civic) and it just felt wrong, guess the lex has spoilt me :) :) ...

Without the LOC, i wouldnt have known about either of these guys...

  8. You need to open the drivers door, then lock and unlock the doors 5 times using the internal switch on the door, then shut the door, and lock the car with the fob.

The interior sensors will then be disabled :)

u 100% sure about this??? on the earlier IS models u just pressed the lock button twice indicators flashed 5 times and internal sensor was disabled.

if u have to ***** about with the door locks thats a crap system

My 2001 IS works just as you have described, press the lock button twice and the lights will flash five times

  9. My IS200's nearside front headlight is suffering from that all too familiar condensation problem. I have researched just about all the previous threads on this subject. Can anyone advise me whether there is a solution, other that replacing the unit, or taking it apart. I have tried placing a towel over the headlight and leaving the headlights switched on.

Why is it that the N/S front suffers from this problem?

A number of you recommend drilling a hole in the back of the unit, does this actually work.

I have a spare N/S Headlight unit which I bought from a scrapyard, only problem is that one the fixing brackets is broken. Its the one which retains the grill in place. There are 2 black plastic screws which hold the grill in place. The outer one would have no fixing as this is the headlight bracket which is missing.

    What would you do?

My Condensation stopped by itself without me having to do anything to it.. The weather hasnt really improve so cant blame the sun for fixing it.

  10. Hi Guys,

My IS200 normally starts first time every time except this morning... The engine turns over and the car starts then it dies straight away :crybaby:

I try 2 more times with the same result, at the 3rd time i revved the engine a lot and it was fine from then on... Is it the cold weather or should i be slightly worried? The Battery seems fine and i recently changed the oil and oil filter.

    Spark plugs perhaps?
