  1. I fitted the FCD a little while ago, and have some pictures i can post if anyone is still interested. (can't do it right now though.)

Problem is... IT DOES NOT WORK! I'm not pleased, but do not have the time or money to do much about it right now!

I have tried it on every setting from 6 to 10 and so far, and it will cut when on full throttle on any of them! I can drive moderatly fast, but as soon as i'm hard on it, kangaroo effect, like being kicked up the *****!

Could the FCD be dodgy? It's the only thing i can think of. It wasn't new.

  2. I find i often get through fuel rather quickly, and will test the SNOW button to see if it has any effect.

I know i went from exeter to bristol and back last night - 150mile round trip. Took almost half a tank, around £30. So trying to do the maths... comes to around 25 mpg. Not great, but not too bad, considering. Did it in about 50 mins eash way, so the average speed is pushing 100mph, with the supercharger whiring away.

I was worried that the supercharger would drink fuel, but my old Celica (normaly aspirated 2 litre) was about the same.

  3. You dont need the security tools mate.

The metal cover to the plugs on the ECU are special tamperproof 5 point star tools, but you dont need them as you already know the wires to connect too.

    Stav

    excellent, thought so.

    just waiting on mr. postman.......

  4. Remember you'll need the correct security tools to access the ECU.

Also, once it has arrived, if you could do a "How To" with plenty pictures it will certainly benefit other members with similar issues.

    Regards,

    Jamie

dont know that i have security tools? i do have the full original lexus kit in the boot?i just took the covers off and pulled out the @ecu extension@ black box with the 4 wires coming from it. all i needed was a socket wrench!

if it goes well ill keep u informed and try to pic it if i can for ya.

  5. Right, what model of FCD did you buy?

Theres type H, F3, and STD.

Its the STD you need. Probaly about setting 8 you'll want it on but if you find the car cutting out or anything drop it down one, but be careful, go too low your car will run lean and blow.

As for fitting, its the same as the TTE black box, 4 wires, +12v, Earth, input, and output.

The HKS website will give you a fitting guide. but basically, the black wire to the black wire, red to red, then the yellow wire to the ECU side, and white to the sensor side.

    Stav

Excellent, thanks, sounds like i can manage that.

When it cut last nite i took that black box out and it was a little warm. left it a few mins in the cold night air and it was ok again. strangly now another warning light, the (!) one also used for handbrake!

wont drive the car again until its fixed thou i dont think, will break the celica out of retirment for a few days!

It didnt even say which FCD it was, but he says bought it for a 200sx but was fitted to a gt4. I thought id risk it, asssumed it was a STD one and picked it up under £50!

  6. me again

the cars been fine a couple of days, then same fault.

i have bought the hks fcd from eBay, i knoe the greddy unit seems better but they are harder to get hold of and i picked this one up cheap!

can i realistically fit it myself or does it require anything expert like remapping etc or is it a case of wiring it in and i'm away?

  7. A boost controller won't work mate, cause the boost on a S/C is limited to the engine speed whereas a turbo can just keep getting faster and faster so needs controlling.

Greddy dont sell them anymore i dont think so you'll need to search on Ebay.

    Stav

Yeh thought that didnt sound right!

I'll keep my eye on eBay, but mite just end up getting one from TTE.

  8. been looking into how the chips work and i think the Greddy one is a better option,

    Stav

Thanks mate, all very useful. where might i find one of these Greddy devices? and any idea how much £?

A mate has told me that a boost controller would be able to do the same thing, as well as giving more power, but i just dont know if this is true or not!

Started the car this afternoon, warmed it up and drove for 10 mins, seems fine, no warning lights today! It failed yesterday after a pretty rapid stretch of travelling (2 mile a minute cruising for about 10mins!) So maybe it was overheating somehow. Still, dont want it to happen again. TDi say this is one of the first conversions they did, about three years ago, so maybe just worn? Only covered about 15k miles in that time thou.

  9. Ask TTE for a new piggy back ECU, I believe you have the black one as it is the symptoms when it is dead. You can remove it as a temporary measure before you get the new one so you can use the car

OK, thanks for the help. Where is the ECU located? Is it easy to remove? If i can get a replacement free then that would be great. I've spent all my money on buying this car and am literally skint!

  10. Had my supercharged IS for a couple of months now, and its amazing. Whilst driving today the engine light came on, and the TRC OFF light started flashing. About a minute later it just lost all power and stalled as i pulled to the side of the road. When i tried to start it, it was idle just under 1000rpm (slightly lower than usual) then either stall on its own, or as soon as i touched the throttle!

Left it fror an hour (went for a pint and a carvery at a very convieniently placed pub!) then started fine and seemed to run ok... for about a mile, then the lights came on again and got most of the way home before... you guessedit, died again, same symptoms. By this time i was two miles from home, and after leaving it for about 20 mins, it would start again.

It seems to be better once it's cooled down. My mechanical knowledge is limited and i haven't a clue what the problem may be. I'm reluctant to take it to my local dealer (i'm not made of money!) but dont want to risk damaging my much loved Lexi.

Anytbody more knowledgeable than I have any ideas?

  11. very easy to do but as the belt is shorter u might have some probs getting the belt on - remove the belt tensioner from the fram 17mm spanner needed, remove the belt, then fit new belt and MAKE 100% SURE IT IS AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE ON THE SUPERCHARGER PULLEY!!!! you will be left with 1 groove at the rear of the pulley.

then fit the tensioner and bolt - check for correct installation of the little locating pin and then using a hammed handle etc push against the bracket of the tensioner to tension the belt then tighten the tensioner retaining belt.

Thanks, as i said i have a belt 8mm short, but if that wont fit i have one 10mm too long, that i guess the tensioner should make up for the difference.

What i really wanted to know is, does the belt have to be a certain tension, or, just tight enough that it doesnt slip. can i overtighten it by mistake?

I am keen to work on my car myself, (partly for financial reasons) but am a little worried i'll screw something up! I have a little mechanical knowledge, and have carried out a lot of work on my Celica (with varying levels of success!). But this car has never been touched by anyone other that Lexus and TDI! I should be able to manage this Ok though.

(Also "hammed handle"??? Dont think i have one of those? Is that a typo, or just something ive never heard of?)

  12. Hi,

its been a while, buit i have now bought a belt for my sc, i couldnt get a 5pk800 from my local place, so have a 5pk792 and a 5pk810, as far as i can tell there are just 8mm short and 10mm long, respectivly. will this small tolarence be ok? which one should i fit? and how hard is it to fit, does the belt need to be a specific tension? is this the sort of job i should attemp myself, with very basic mechanical knowledge? (i know its a small job but i am SO skint!

  13. I know that the real-time MPG gauges, such as the one on my (and, I assume, everyone elses!) IS200, can often be inacurate. But I was wandering how it actually works, and does it take into account any modifications (like my supercharger!)?

I have discussed this with mates and nobody really knows, I would be interested to find out.

I calculated myself that i am averaging around 16-18mpg! That may be due, in part, to my driving style! I'll get over the novely of the charger one day, and ease off a bit, I'm sure!

  14. the cable looks fine mate, and i can see the snapped spring but you've also got the new style one fitted anyway so there was no need for it.

just out of interest were you charged for the new spring? as if you email Florian At TTE they'll provide one for free.

    Stav

Oh, OK, it did look to be closing ok, i just figured "that looks broke"!

No, I was not charged for the spring, not even postage, and the guy at TDI was very helpful.

But if the spring isnt the prolem, am I to supose it's the belt then?

  15. Well I think the cable adjustment is OK (see photo).

I have, however, found a snapped spring on the valve (see photo) which i think is probably effecting it. I've spoken to Sean (Shaun?) at TDI (who did the conversion) and he was most helpful in sending me a new spring.

I dont know if this alone is causing the problem?

Do you thing i should change the belt too, for good measure? The adjustment seems to be set to max, and it may be the original, 3 year old one, although milage sinse fitting has been low. Also, it looks as if it could maybe be a little wider? (see photo)

    What do ya reckon?

  16. Hi,

I'm new on here having just purchased an IS200.

My car is running a TTE Supercharger, which in all honesty i know very little about as yet! Other kit includes small front mount intercooler, HKS Hi Power silent exhaust, some kind of manifold upgrade, 18" light weight wheels and Tein adjustable coil over suspension.

It was on a dyno last night and was a little disappointed to see a max power of 186 bhp! It seems just as it's getting good boost (4psi, dont know what its suposed to make?) at just below 5k revs, the boost drops off copletely and there is a squeel from the charger.

Does anybody know if there is a clutch in the supercharger that can wear out? The belts seem ok, tight and no signs of wear.

Any suggestions from anybody who knows what they are talking about would be gratefully received.
