  1. Ideally you should speak to the previous owner and find out how they were fitted. If they were glued, it might be possible to get them off without too much expense. Ryaans is our detailing expert on here, he may have a suggestion. Looks a good car on the advert.
  2. No badges says CHAV to me I am afraid! Cars without badges do make me look twice. Hence why manufacturers have logos to identify their brand.
  3. I can open the boot on my MkIV with the engine running.
  4. Do not agree with S type having a bigger boot. My friend had one and struggled to put his luggage for a holiday in it. Easily fitted into my LS - not sure how you come to that conclusion? The height is no where near as good as the LS.
  5. If money was no object - just think of the garage we could have - Chris Evans style. 10 cars ONLY! 1) LS 400 Mk1 2) LS 400 Mk II 3) LS 400 Mk iii 4) LS 400 Mk IV 5) RX 450h 6) IS-F 7) SC430 8) IS 250 C 9) LS 600h 10) This was my hardest choice! Mk 1 Ford Cortina - just to remember how bad motoring used to be!
  6. With an LS 600 I would just google a few sightseeing routes and enjoy a drive in our beautiful country! Yorkshire Dales / Moors / Lake District / Scotland?
  7. Yes keep the LS! But........................................ if you were to choose another model of a cheap car ........... what would go for chaps? I have considered the Honda Legend in the past? But it would probably an RX Lexus.
  8. I could not agree more, regarding these small 1.2 turbo engines - like my friend's Peugeot 308 - economy yes.... but for how long? Personally I have still not squared the circle regarding buying a newish car or one that is in very good condition but older. Reliability is my major concern, so the newer the better? BUT ...... if I spend £12,000 on a car and it goes pear shaped, I have the potential to lose a great deal of money on repairs because the car is too valuable to scrap. Buying a car for £3,000 and spending another £1,000 on "repairs" would leave me with £8,000 "spare" If the repairs are too expensive, i.e. more than half the cost of the car - then you have lost £3,000. I work on a basis of £1,000 a year depreciation if possible - on my newer cars it has been more like £1500. You can only work out your depreciation when you get rid of the car. If the £3,000 car lasts three years - then it owes me nothing. A £1,000 car only has to last a year! It is LUCK to win at the cost / benefit car game, but great fun playing it! Does this make sense to anyone?
  9. Yes it happened to me as well. I said, rather lamely, I would have another one but thought it very unlikely. They are very special cars and the bug bites. I have a big grin on my face everytime I drive it. Interestingly, the longer you own one the more you begin to appreciate how good they are. Just had a ride in a friend's Peugeot 208 SW 2014. He paid £15,000 for the top model but quite honestly it did not ride as well as my LS. On that comparison I have £11,500 to spend on fuel! (I wish!) Y
  10. Thanks very much!
  11. Many thanks Bob!
  12. Garry, what would you use to seal them?
  13. Interesting - never had that problem yet. Have you reset all the other modes on the computer? Any other issues such as the time elapse reading?
  14. Cliff Michelmore: So you think............. .You Can Drive? (24 August 1965) ...You Can Drive In 1970? (24 March 1970) . ...You're A Good Driver? (1973) ...You Can Drive? (3 June 1981)
  15. That is very interesting, I did not realise it was illegal to go over the white circle. Many years ago, some of you will remember, Cliff Michelmore hosted a programme called "So you think you are a good driver?". They went through various motoring scenarios and tested your knowledge with a score. There were also adverts (NOT Jimmy Savile's clunk click!) on the highway code and examples of bad driving - like undertaking on a motorway (not illegal I am told! Unless there is an accident!). It is a real pity they are no longer on TV - it might remind a few people how they should conduct themselves on the road.
  16. Just wondered if you had forgotten how good the LS 400 rides - compared with the the LS430? Sorry John, I am only teasing!
  17. Just had four new tyres fitted (Kumho's) by a reputable local tyre company. Took the car out and there was a horrible metallic clicking noise. Called them back and they found the wheel weights were catching the caliper. Apparently there is very little clearance on the inside rim. Weights added to the inside of the wheel, rather than the rim, cured the problem. Anyone getting new tyres might wish to check with the tyre fitter about this potential problem. All fixed, car runs like a dream........ fingers crossed!
  18. The Honda Legend looks very good AND you know the history - result me thinks. Keep us posted.
  19. In all seriousness Andrew, the USA Lexus Club would be a better source of help and information. Hope you resolve your issues.
