  1. I only put in the fuel consumption out of interest of others on the forum, as it usually a topic of dicussion. To set the record straight, I have been using locally lately - 20 mpg! £80 of petrol for 327 miles - that might make some people wince. If I take my LS400 on a long run, keep below 80 mph, and especially on a motorway - 30 mpg plus is usual. The key to getting good overall economy is ONLY take it if you are going over a 20 mile round trip. Hope that makes sense?
  2. You are soooooooooo mean! He is regretting it already!
  3. Yes of course! I had forgottedn about the regenerative braking. I find automatics seem to have little engine braking unless you go down to 2 or below. I wonder how people in the Alps go downhill without over-heating the brakes. I friend, admittedly towing a heavy trailer, burnt out the brakes on his Volvo 245 coming down some pass. He braked gently all the way - which is not recommended.
  4. That chap came all the way from N. Ireland? He got a good one! Just had a super 150 mile trip to West Sussex in the LS400. Had foregotten how good this car is for longish journeys, even on winding roads, she handled well. 26.5 mpg overall for the trip, so very pleased. I think if I had to change - it might be a LS430 or an RX400h. You do get a bit spoilt with these cars. Only heard one person on the site who considered they bought a Lexus dog! Enjoy the Volvo!
  5. That says a lot to me about your driving style - very impressive. You obviously don't drive on your brakes.
  6. What age is your RX450h out of interest?
  7. I am inclined to agree. A Lambo / etc would look good. The Focus RS looks good in this colour.
  8. I love that colour but it would depend on the car ...... not sure now.
  9. Well done! Are there airbags in the seats? Unplugging the seats is fairly simple? Really hope you have found the problem - keep us posted.
  10. That might be due to insurance limitations. Surprised no one want to look at it - I presume it must be difficult to access?
  11. That is a bit worrying. Do you have any photos of the corrosion?
  12. The gentleman I bought my Carina from bought one of these new! Both cars were chocolate metallic. Toyota's Mustang. I did not like the style compared to the coupe. Worth a look:- http://www.caranddriver.com/flipbook/these-are-the-15-greatest-toyotas-ever-built#1
  13. You are quite correct, mine had stainless steel hub caps. My Dad's Corolla KE?? had the same wheels as the Cressida. Did they have this coupe in the UK? I don't remember seeing one. I always loved the Celica TA22. My father used to deliver Toyotas when they were imported into Dover. He took a Celica in brown metallic to Paddy Hopkirk. He obviously got it cheap as it was a direct delivery. If I came into a silly amount of money I would buy one - but they command very high prices for a good one. The same mechanicals as my Carina.
  14. That brings back memories - particularly the wheels.
  15. Wow! Surely there can't be many left in the UK? Saloon or estate? I have had 3 Toyotas - a 1974 Carina was my first - what a car!
  16. They are becoming very rare - more chance of finding a good LS430 me thinks. But you never know what is around the corner if you are prepared to be patient.
  17. OMG! You could have a bath in those wheels!
  18. Yes, my Dad had a key to the AA box. Probably worth something now, but all the boxes have gone I believe. Will not be long before all the BT telephone boxes will be gone as well. Dr. Who's Tardis will still be here!
  19. This looks like the future - I fell very old now! Have decided to plug on as a dinosaur with my LS400. Possibly there is better out there, but I will stick to my gas guzzler and enjoy it while I can. There will come a day when it is banned, or priced out of the market - hopefully I will be dead and gone by then! Please enjoy and keep us posted on how it performs in all areas. One day I might have to eat my words as waft down the road in an all electric Toyota. Will not be able to afford a Lexus by then!
  20. It was not the suspension that bothered me (my father-in-law had a BX1.9D) about Citreons it was the electrical issues. Common to many French cars I believe - or am I just prejudiced?

  22. My borther-in-law had two sets of twins under 3 years old. He bought a Sierra estate and a company supplied rear seats like a Volvo 245. They were legal and insurance covered. A far cry from when I was a lad - sat with six mates in the back of a Ford Thames 400E van!
