    I paid more for my 08 because it was in good condition, service history and low mileage. Does not guarantee something will need doing in the not too distant future, as the car is 12 years old. The big difference in price is between the 4ooh and the 450h - similar age and mileage you can pay 30% more for the 450h. You takes your money...................etc

    That is interesting as my old Mitsubishi had both and I relied more on the sensors to be honest. My RX 400h has camera plus front and rear sensors - all I am sure will come in handy

    Don't ignore "good" RX 300 models. They will be older but cheaper (£320) on Road Tax

    Interesting you mention the gear change. My 400h is soooo smooth with the CVT box. The RX 300 is not jerky but not as smooth as the 400h. Just my view. The steering on the 400h is much heavier.

    Cracking Bart, I still hold a grudge though! I opted for an older / cheaper 400h - and I am very pleased o far, but it is early days. Still wondering if I should have waited for another 450h to come along???????? No no no! Stop it David!!!! (My wife’svoiceagain!)

    Thanks John. Your last paragraph, I find with a Lexus the opposite. You drive it, it is ok but after living with the car you begin to fully appreciate how good they actually are. Understated / underrated / conservative / refined are just some of the words that come into my head.

    John, I WILL read the handbook again (Highway Code) there are probably things I have forgotten!

    It does seem rather strange that you can undertake as long as you don't have an accident!

    Glad you are ok but even a small prang can upset you for quite a while. You have my sympathies as it is no fun. I just wondered if they will choose to right the car off? If it is a major repair does it become a category on the V5? Someone will advise on here?

    There is so much undertaking on motorways now you need all the help you can get! Apparently, it is not illegal to undertake BUT if it causes an accident that is a different matter! Explained to me by a police officer!

    There is a tv series called Doc Martin. It is filmed in Port Issac in Cornwall and the main character, Martin Clunes, drives a LS 460.

    I fully appreciate what you mean. I find the search far more exciting than the ownership! But with a Lexus you can get both!

    Interesting topic. I have always done the opposite, I.e. buy older cars with low mileage. I understand some of the possible pitfalls but I just feel that overall - suspension, wheel bearings, steering and engine has had less wear. It does depend on the car, as some makes seem to “age” quicker than others. Provided a Lexus has not been abused they seem to age well. Having only ever owned one new car, I have been reluctant to spend so much on a car just to see it depreciate faster than a roller coaster. Buying ”older” is also a risk. I am quite surprised how expensive newer Lexus models, with high mileages, can be.

    Checked! A LS 460 registration GX64VDO - not a registered number plate! Well it is not on the MOT check anyway! They must use unregistered plates just for filming. .
