  1. Reading this, I am so pleased I have a Lexus.
  2. If your budget could stretch to an IS 300h that would be a cracking car for your journey. I like the high driving position of the 400h and consider the economy very acceptable for a 3.3 litre V6. With a hybrid you can adjust your driving technique to get good economy - it can actually be quite fun to get good mpg as the driving style is very relaxed. If you want to give it some stick it will really move. Just my opinion.
  3. Does the consumption depend on whether or not you buy a RX 400 h?
  4. You may get better but I would count on 30 mpg as a guide overall. Others, who have had more experience with the 400h, may suggest better figures. Crawling in heavy traffic with a very light throttle can be done on electric but any form of acceleration will kick-in the ICE.

  6. I drove from Bristol to Kent on motorways at the legal limit. I averaged 36 mpg - that was calculated from mileage on Google and full tank. I thought this was very good for a 3.3 litre V6. Locally, doing mainly very short runs, I get 27 mpg. It has dropped to 25 mpg as the cold weather came. There are threads on this forum explaining how to drive a hybrid to get the best fuel economy. Overall I would expect around 30 mpg, you may get more depending on the length of route / traffic / hills etc. as John mentioned above. Can you give us some indication of your usual route?
  7. I wonder if that partly explains why the insurance on my 400h was £100 more than the RX300?
  8. Really like that colour combination but would like to see it in the flesh. That will be MUCH easier to keep clean! Well it will not show the dirt as much! That is a keeper!
  9. If you can spare the time look at both. I would concentrate on service history (How many Lexus services?) condition inside and out. Younger and lower mileage does not necessarily equate to better condition. I like the lower mileage one but the other could be a better buy!
  10. Excellent! When you say black sealant ....... silicone?
  11. Is your wife excited? Nothing to do with you of course! About the car?
  12. We want photos or it did not happen!
  13. They key word is ergonomics. Having to look away from the road for more than a second is not ideal. It is common sense to have a device that gives you instant control without taking your eyes off the road. A round knob delivers extremely well. A bank of identical switches looks good but is NOT ergonomically friendly. Look at beer taps in pubs!
  14. Fair enough!
  15. Is it worth doing? Is the standard sound system that bad?
  16. This has been a very interesting thread.
  17. Congratulations! I have recently purchased a 400h. Let us know your thoughts after a couple of weeks driving it. I concur with the " shift between electric and engine is seamless" And yes, it can shift if required!
  18. I don't hate EV's I have just bought an older hybrid and I am blown away with the 15 year old technology. I appreciate they will be part of the future but so will hydrogen powered vehicles, particularly vans and lorries. Tesla have taken the European motor sales by storm and good for them. All I am suggesting is that other manufacturers will, hopefully, produce better EV solutions. I think we are all lamenting the narrowing of the Lexus offerings in Europe. However, I have a gut feeling that Lexus will produce something quite special in the not too distant future. Infrastructure and technology is changing rapidly. Lithium batteries will be replaced by something much cheaper in the future. I love the styling of Tesla, I also love the styling of many Italian and French cars ............ would I buy one? Not today sir! And that goes for Tesla. Just my view. Just to add, go with Tesla if your company is buying it to give it a go.... BUT if you are spending your OWN money, I would be thinking twice.
  19. Welcome guys! Sorry you did not have a quick response! I must be honest, I did not catch your post in "Latest Posts" which I keep an eye on. Just to mention what Ed says here is very true. You will appreciate the car the longer you own it. Normally with cars, the first couple of weeks is exciting and then the novelty wears off. But I have found, with each Lexus I have owned, that you really appreciate how good they are the longer you own them. I have owned 4 Lexus cars but ONLY sold one! When I sold that, I immediately regretted it! I said to myself, "One day you will get another one." Five years ago I did! Same model, same colour. It is well documented on the forums that people sell their Lexus and regret it! Enjoy your vehicles guys they are "special"
  20. Has it taken you since April to discover this Henry? Brilliant result! As Zotto says, you do get various "noises" with hybrids that you think are not normal. My 400h HANDBOOK mentions these noises and says they are normal so don't worry! I had something similar with an anti-static strap I fitted to a car. I have posted it on here somewhere. It is a great feeling when you discover something like that!
  21. I believe they are easily broken. I was advised to turn my ignition key holding the "ends" rather than the "normal" way!
  22. I would persevere with the wire for a bit longer or try something else to put down the drain. Others on here might suggest something else (air). I am interested because I own a 400h and could end up with the same issue.
