  1. This is why this club is amazing! You guys are magic! Great stuff!
  2. It is very disappointing all the same. You are very lucky if you recover all your costs after an accident. Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.
  3. An argument for keeping to tried and trusted technology. It seems Audi rushed the development.
  4. Pete, these cars are able to repair themselves! Many examples on the forums! Keep us posted please.
  5. I do not think it was German bashing. He really liked the car but was very disappointed by the lack of useable wing mirrors / paint issues / leaks / electrical gremlins / charging point. I felt gutted for him, not sure he was able to reject the car as he bought it in France. Issues do not always manifest themselves straight away. I did not like the colour to be honest!
  6. I have recently bought a 2008 RX400 with a low mileage. I have faith in the reliability of these cars as the above posts confirm. Look at the worst case scenario and your options to change. £1,000 to keep a good car going is far cheaper than buying a replacement. Wear and tear items will be linked to mileage and age. With a Lexus you would be very unlucky to have lots of things go wrong one after another. You know your car, check for corrosion and treat if necessary. We all come to a point when we say, enough is enough, I need to change this vehicle. When that time comes is dependent on the individual. The longer you keep your car the more value you will get out of it. You can't really compare older Lexus cars with other makes, as they are far more reliable. I would not even consider buying a BMW, Mercedes or Audi of this age. Spend the £1,000 and I would be very surprised if will not last another 30 months. You have already spent money on the larger wear and tear items - dics / pads / timing belt. You will have to spend a great deal more to replace your present car. Keep us all informed about what you decide but I would be keeping it and putting that tow bar on. Good luck!
  7. Well worth watching! Buyer beware! Thank you John for the link! It needs sharing!
  8. Thanks John! Had not seen that thread! I thought it was a 460 but I need to look for the 600h now! Sad ? Yes - do I care? No!
  9. Mine is also depressing John! My son LOVES Doc Martin and we all watch it together (unusual in these modern times) I am so sad and bored, I check the registrations of the vehicles on the MOT site as well! The P:olice Land Rover is still going but has much corrosion! I thought his second Lexus was a 460? If the MOT is shown as out of date, it could be SORN but also could it be scrapped / written off? His second Lexus reg was not available on the MOT site. Can anyone help please? Ca
  10. At that price, it makes my RX seem expensive! Good luck with your decision!
  11. I have to agree with Malc, Steve. Provided you can accept a complete loss then go for it. As John says, life is a one-way ticket! But if you can't accept the worst, please don't hope for the best!
  12. I have not driven mine off-road but from what I have read it is not a conventional 4WD. It is not meant to be very good in snow but I stand to be corrected. I would not wish to risk mine across muddy field but would be interested to see a video!
  13. That is an excellent colour combination with a full Lexus service history and low mileage at a very good price. Must be worth a look?
  14. I will not be buying any shares! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-55103706
  15. Please be aware, Sarah, that the 400h is NOT a four wheel drive like the RX 300. It will not get you through snow by all accounts......... however if you change the tyres for seasonal ones you should be OK. Others will advise but I think Michelin Cross Climate tyres have been mentioned. Fortunately we get very little snow down here in the deep south!
  16. Personally I would avoid air suspension as the pitfalls are more than the gains imo.
  17. My average in mixed driving is 22 mpg - whether I drive it hard or gentle seems to make little difference. Th official consumption for urban cycle is 16 mpg
  18. A lot will depend on the route you take how you drive the hybrid. It will be significantly better than your RX 300 for sure.
  19. I have had the same on my LS 400, the brakes have been checked and they are fine. Pedal travel does seem spongy compared to other cars. As long as your fluid levels are ok, I doubt there is anything wrong but still worth checking for peace of mind.
  20. Please let us all know which car you eventually decide to buy.
  21. An old thread that I had not seen. I had nylon covers on a Mitsubishi many years ago and the static discharge really made me jump! I had to develop a technique of exiting the vehicle by opening the door and holding on to the door frame before I stepped onto the ground. My father kept pigs and I hated the electric fence. The dog touched it once with his wet nose and did a somersault! Static can be just as painful.
  22. This is just my personal view. I would go for the 450h with due diligence regarding MOT history and service record. I would NOT purchase an older 450h with air suspension. These are the SE-L or Premium specification. You would be very unlucky to get lots of trouble with a Lexus. All cars can go wrong, but with Lexus it seems that ONE thing can go wrong and IT CAN be expensive to fix but after that one issue, you rarely get a catalogue of failures. there is a member on here who suffered a catastrophic failure to his LS 430 but he still went and bought another Lexus. Buying older cars is risky but if you buy an older Lexus you have more chance of it giving reliable service than the equivalent BMW or Mercedes. The Honda is a very good car ......... but until you have owned a Lexus ........ you will never know the difference! Owning being the operative word! Good luck with your decision, read as much as you can on this forum.
