Very frustrating but I think Peter has a point regarding the use of the brakes. If you drive steadily, the friction brakes hardly get any use. A taxi, I would imagine, gets a lot more stick regarding sharp braking - not wishing to be rude to Prius taxi drivers - due to them being in a hurry to get to the next job. This is only a suggestion, and it probably will not work! Where it is safe to do so, get some speed up and then put the car into neutral and brake fairly hard a few times. This will "clean" the brake disks as they may not be getting much use. Others on here may have a better solution but it is worth a try.

Somewhat unusual to have a wife into military interests - you are lucky to be able to share that with your spouse. Regarding interests, I am a real butterfly who never seems to land for very long. I would consider my interests to be eclectic, where I am a Jack of all trades but master of none!

I will keep an eye out for that lovely GS - however it is so stealthy I will probably miss it! Enjoy your Lexus, the longer you own it, the more you will appreciate its finer qualities.

That is a cracking car. As John describes, it is a wolf in sheep's clothing and very understated. Will be interesting to note if your driving style changes of the next few months - keep us all posted! We LOVE photos!

That is more sensible than it sounds! A Morris 1000 van unfortunately will probably cost more than the Audi! Classic vans are very pricy!

When you close the lid, do you hear a click? Something jammed in the mechanism or catch, like a piece of paper?

The criticism of the CVT is over egged. I watch car reviews by journalists with a very large pinch of salt. I much prefer to listen to owners, preferably someone who has just sold their car - you get a more balanced view. If you drive a car with a CVT like a racing driver all the time, then I can understand the revving might get a bit tiresome. Most people don't drive like that and as others have said, you adjust your driving style to the car without realising it. Seamless is the best way to describe the acceleration. I can only speak from the experience of owning a RX 300 and RX 400h. Both really good cars - try driving one over a fairly uneven cinder car park - the ride I would describe as smooth! The LS 400 is special and I feel it is fruitless to try and compare it with any SUV let alone large saloon. The engineering is a wonder to behold - you own a 22 year old car that even today has few rivals. The practicalities of life unfortunately get in the way. Kids, dogs, moving long items all really need a MPV, SUV or large estate. Imagine if Lexus had taken the LS 400 and made an estate car version? Wow! My advice, for an everyday car, would be to keep the Audi for practical reasons and drive the LS more.

After sorting out the keys. Decided to fit sensors prior to selling. Auto Mobile Installations fitted four sensors. Unfortunately one turned out to be faulty but Kieran came back and sorted it! Very pleased with the fitting and colour coding. £180 all in. He also fits dash cams and trackers and immobilisers. No hesitation in recommending this company.

Peace of mind is key if you buy a lemon. Someone on here may correct me but IF there is an issue with a Lexus, it tends to be ONE thing (which can be very expensive) you rarely get a string of issues.

Looks like a pull back on Lexus GB's behalf. Dressed-up to look better? As royoftherovers posted a headlight was £1,000, which I understand will no longer be covered.

There must be some limitations such as a full Lexus service history. I have searched for it on the Lexus website but can't find any information.

Is the warranty retrospective for second-hand vehicles or just for new ones?

I totally agree with what Ed says. Ownership is much more than mpg. I had a very economical Octavia estate but the Turbo went. All the savings on fuel I made that year were lost. Emissions are now having a very big bearing on the ownership of cars. Modern diesels can have DPF issues which can cost a lot of money to rectify, along with the problems being experienced by Adblue users. As far as I am concerned the only way forward, for now, is a hybrid. Even petrol cars having emission issues with engine management lights coming on. The writing is on the wall, even if others refuse to admit it. My next vehicle will probably be a Lexus or Toyota hybrid. You pays your money you takes your chance!
