  1. I agree - I was just having a senior moment!
  2. This is a very heated debate which does reflect the concerns of many who are worried about the rapid switch to EV. Those on the EV "side" have usually had some experience of running an EV. From some reading I have done, EV battery degradation is much less than the original Leaf batteries. One pro-EV reviewer stated that an EV car with high mileage was very good value. I am not particularly for or against EV's but the pros and cons need to be weighed up. For many car users (at present) EV ownership is very problematic. For others the switch has been a revelation, mainly because it suits their driving requirements. Personally I would never buy another new car, as I feel the costs do not make sense. If given a choice between two cars at the same price - one ICE the other EV - which one would I choose? Now I have opened up my own can of worms!
  3. Please keep us informed about how you are getting on with the car. MPG is very hard to judge on such a short trip. Reset the mpg and run it for a full tank. On very short runs I have achieved similar results in winter. As Colin has stated, short runs when cold kill mpg. You should be getting around 25 to 30 mpg depending on the above. The steering on the RX400h feels totally different from my previous RX300. If you follow Colin's advice on driving style you will gain maximum mpg. It does take a little getting used to. What mileage do you have on the car?
  4. A labour of love for a cracking car! I wish I had your skills and bravery! Keep us all posted on your progress.
  5. Passed MOT - yes lots of surface rust on underbody components but nothing to worry about I am told by the tester. The old girl is 24 in March! Through the past year I have not used my cars much but it is always a relief when it passes. Apart from wear and tear items, I can't recall a specific "repair" - though my memory is sometimes clouded by wonderful Australian 19 Crimes wine!
  6. The BEST backside, with child bearing hips, is of course the LS 400!
  7. I have condensation in one of my headlights. No idea how you take off a headlight on a RX400h.
  8. Local locksmith advertises they can do Merc and BMW keys much cheaper than that:- Ring for a quote: https://www.hernebaylocks.co.uk/lock-and-key-repairs
  9. Unless people claim to be an expert, then I presume they are giving their opinion from experience. Goodyear are a top brand but I would never buy one again. I had a bulge in a fairly new Goodyear tyre that could have cost me my life. It was probably a one-off but I will never buy another one. "You get what you pay for!" I am not sure this is always true. We make a decision based on safety and finances, in the end it is YOUR decision what tyres you buy. Provided they meet the car manufacturer's specification for that vehicle.
  10. Very sorry to hear that. I wish I had an answer to your dilemma. It is quite sad that people are finding it challenging to run a decent car. Why should you HAVE to go back to "Bangers" because of these thieves?
  11. "Oblivious to the issue" sounds about right. Check this forum, lots on sunroof drain blockages. Read the threads and you should be able to sort it out. Get your Lexus serviced at an independent. Unless the car is less than 10 years old - Lexus dealers will not want to know.
  12. If you HAVE TO cross water, the safest way is to wade it first and CHECK the depth. It is far better to turn round and find an alternative route if you can.
  13. I have a feeling mine does the same on a long descent in cruise - I could be wrong but when I take her out next time I will check - that is my RX 400h.
  14. Here in East Kent still queues in our town. Fuel is available in Thanet however. I really thought it would have died down by now, apparently not!
  15. I agree with all above. If you like the car - KEEP it! You have "sorted" already most of the wear and tear issues - sell it and the buyer will be getting all those advantages at a very cheap price! "You know it makes sense Rodney!"
  16. When you come to replace the IS, what would you consider? An ES?
  17. That is more of a testament to the brand than any professional review. Question: if you HAD to get another taxi, what would you buy?
  18. The van at 5.15 shows how it should be done ..... very slowly. Of course that still depends on the depth of the water not being too high.
