You make some interesting points Mr T.

I would not spend that amount of money on a private sale where no warranty is guaranteed. Unless you know the owner and car very well. If things go wrong they can be very expensive to fix. Someone posted that they had to reject a LS 460 from a dealer who could not get it fixed. Proceed with caution would be my advice. Buying from a Lexus dealer is more expensive but well worth the security for the warranty. Just my personal view.

Good news! Sorry I missed this post. We don't bounce like we used to!

I fully agree. I took my LS for a 40 mile round trip and was again surprised and delighted by the ride and comfort. If I am being honest, it is better than the NX I also own. Yes it is older and does not have all the tech but in terms of driving it is a supreme ride. Comfort, quietness, power. It ticks most boxes - not as practical, being a saloon, or as good on fuel. I appreciate your sentiments on driving a thirsty V8 - that horse has been flogged to death on the forum, so I do not wish to ignite another debate. For those of you on here who have, in the past, actaually bought a NEW LS400 - I would have loved to have had your experience of a new one!

Interesting intial thoughts from a BMW driver. You gain in some areas and lose in others. Somewhat surprised that you had problems getting the seat correct for you. Lexus seats are some of the most comfortable on the market, though I have no experience of the new NX. Very surprised and disappointed that the BMW uses all its electric first - not a good system. If you do decide to choose the NX, give it 3 months of ownership and report back please. You need to actually own a Lexus for a few months before you fully appreciate the quality and engineering. I would be surprised if you were disappointed. One key feature you will not be bothered about is the reliability, as it is a company car.

All cars can go wrong but more compicated vehicles with electronics make it a PITA if the fault can't be diagnosed. If I had the same experience, I would be running away George! The bottom line is that you take the risk if buying private or through a dodgy independent warranty - which from reading others experiences, are not worth the paper they are written on. Buying from a Lexus dealer with a full warranty is the safest but most expensive option. Very sorry to read this tale as the car seemed a good one. You did as much due diligence as you could but it turned out to be a lemon. Very pleased you got a full refund. Fully appreciate your feelings. Dare I ask what other car you are now contemplating or have purchased?

I agree, I think it will nullify the warranty. Others may know more. -
Yes! But I think you might be able to source a unicorn easier!

I have pondered what would be a DIRECT replacement for my LS400 - GS450h comes to mind, though the 460 is also tempting. There seems to be more problems with the 460 than the 400, from reading the forum. Provided you get a good one, with a full Lexus service history, it should be fine. Better value than an ES?

I am interested to why your wife thinks it is time to let go? Have you been expressing doubts about your LS400? I persuaded myself that my Mk3 LS400 had to go after 1 year of ownership. Mainly on practical grounds with two Labradors. I regretted it - especially after buying a BMW estate! I said I would have another one, one day, and I did. However, getting a "good one" now is very hard. If you decide to sell there is limited opportunity (cost excepting) to come back to a 400. As Phil says, they do not make cars like the LS 400 now. The quality is hard to describe until you actually own one. Newer Lexus cars have lots more tech and drive really well. Is an ES that much better than a sound LS400? Only you can decide. My main concern with my LS 400 is if something goes wrong that is difficult or expensive to fix. Then I will have to say goodbye. Provided your LS400 can be maintained, even if you spent £2000 - £3000 on her, that is peanuts compared with buying an ES. You will know when the time is right to let go ............ for whatever reason and it could be now. Just my tghoughts.

Looking at the specs for the new RX and NX 450h+ they have the same engine and battery capacity - interesting. -

I am inclined to agree with all you say, which makes me feel a bit awkward as I have just bought the NX300h. I have not driven the NX far yet, so I am still digesting the controls. The tech is amazing compared to my previous RX400h but I am doubting if, to be honest, it makes for a better driving experience. Apple / Android is great but I feel it is for the younger generation. Lexus do need to move on and update their cars with the latest tech to attract younger drivers. We "OLDIES" will shortly be no longer in the market for car - a mobility scooter possibly! I refuse, on safety grounds, to adjust the infotainment screen while driving. Fortunately the main driving controls are mostly accessed by buttons. I feel I have bitten off more than I need to chew, regarding the tech in the NX. Is there a huge difference in driving pleasure between my 25 year old LS400 and the newer NX? I fear, for me, the answer is no. So why did I buy it? The jury is out! P.S. My wife loves it! -
Looks really smart.

my only gripe is the harsh ride compared to my old RX400h
