  1. Post photos up when you get one!
  2. What Jaguar do you run out of interest?
  3. I have never wanted to buy a car on Ebay. Prejudice, I know. But I remember a chap from another car forum I was on, say about a real dog of a car he had:- "I will just put it on the Bay ........ some idiot will bid for it." You can get a "bargain" but also you can buy a real dog. It depends on your technical knowledge and mechanical competency. I am useless, so I rely on others (garages!) to sort out problems - which can be very costly. I prefer to use AutoTrader, thgough I did get a "bargain" on Guntree once! I would rather pay a little over the odds to get a good car, rather than try for a bargain lemon!
  4. I wonder how an old LS 400 compares with new IS and GS models? Interesting comparison?
  5. If you could garage the Mk1, then it could be used in the summer months - 6 months tax and insurance. Does you wife not drive?
  6. Found this on the forum - it might help. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/35806-engine-coolant-changed-on-99-ls400/
  7. The cars will be insured - but not for the driver who hits you! I believe the ANPR cameras only detect cars with no MOT or no insurance at all.
  8. Used this site to find out how to change my Bonnet Struts. Excellent advice found under the red heading. Bought from Metrol Springs - total cost £38 for the pair. Old and new shown. Added an extra nut to gain more purchase for tightening. Very straightforward swap on my Mk IV LS 400 - used a piece of wood to stop the bonnet from falling on my head! Thanks to all who contributed.
  9. I like the understated look. Not that many people realise it has a V8 engine and is limited to 155mph! I was asked in a car park the other day, "Nice looking car, does it have a 2.0 litre engine?" I really like the fact that many people have no concept of how good the LS. If it was a Merc or BMW 7 series they might comment - but if they look and just walk by, it makes me smile!
  10. That looks really good! Well done! You have worked hard to achieve that - enjoy!
  11. It must have cost quite a bit to do that ............... not my cup-of-tea, but you have to admire the work gone into it. Not sure that front spoiler is legal?
  12. You see some very expensive cars in an Aldi car park - do not judge a book by its cover! LOL!
  13. That is not an advert it is the first chapter of a novel! Does look a good car.
  14. I can see the benefits for older people who are no longer able to drive due to ill health.
  15. Interesting they chose a Lexus - would have thought they might have used an American car?

  17. That is good news! 14 years old, 140,000 miles, you can't complain at that. Not sure many makes of cars of that vintage and mileage would pass without something being advised.
  18. Not sure exactly how Wheeler Dealers work it all out but I was told by someone, who used to work for a Lexus garage, that Lexus got wind of the programme. They took the car in (for a service?) and Lexus gave it a very thorough going over mechanically before WD's got hold of it. The chap who told me seemed genuine - he said they did not want to risk the Lexus reputation. As Mike has said, you must remember that the labour costs are NOT included. With the classic cars they do, the buyer certainly gets a well sorted car. As we all know, with television, they have a great deal of poetic license!
  19. Unbelieveable condition? Are those dents in the rear 3/4 panel? http://www.carvillage.co.uk/used-car/lexus/ls/mtz_24410_39108182
  20. I have never lliked the styling of the CT - so would not consider buying one. The IS I do like, along with the LS and RX, I am also warmimg to the NX. I have always liked the SC convertible styling.
  21. Might be worth reading this thread:- http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/103619-gs430-buying-questionshelp/
  22. I can honestly say I have never had a "bad" experience with Japanese derived cars. Volvo, Skoda, BMW - not that impressed. My local garage mechanic said to me, when seeing a VW Golf being repaired, "They are not as reliable as people think."
  23. Philthy, out of interest, what Lexus model did you have before the Touareg? Are you tempted to come back to Lexus? You seem to be sold on VW diesel engineering. I have a diesel, 2.0 TDI VW engine in a Mitsubishi, but now I am not convinced (on environmental concerns) that diesel is the future.
